Rebirth Of The Rejected Luna Chapter 75: Tension
**Tiana's POV**
We had spent more than twenty hours in the infirmary with Amara. It was already the evening of the next day and none of us could leave her here. I could not imagine what she was going through. The delivery was stressful, especially for her. Sweat beads were on her face and she had been screaming and crying nonstop.
“Push, Amara! One more time, you’re almost there!” the head midwife said.
Amara’s face contorted in pain, her breath quickening. Peter held her hand tightly, comforting her but Amara was raining curses at him. I could understand her because I knew she was in excruciating pain.
"You’ve got this, love. Just one more, I know you can do it.” Peter said in a soft voice.
Amara let out a strained cry as the healer coached her through another push. She was breathing heavily
With a final scream, Amara collapsed back onto the pillows, gasping for air. Her face was covered in sweat, her body trembling with exhaustion.
The healer smiled brightly. “It’s a boy.”
Peter’s face lit up with joy. He bent over her, pressing his forehead to hers. “A son, Amara... we have a son.”
Tears welled in Amara’s eyes as she looked at him, her voice barely a whisper. “A son… we really have a son. An heir."
He kissed her lips lightly and hugged her a little.
The nurse moved quickly to take the newborn, cleaning him off before handing him to Amara. She gazed down at the tiny, squirming baby in her arms, her heart swelling with love.
“He’s perfect,” she murmured.
Peter kissed her forehead. “He’s more than perfect. He’s ours.”
I glanced at Fiona and Layla, They were smiling softly. Theo had not entered the room. He stood outside, his figure barely visible from where I stood, as though he was waiting for permission through the door that was slightly ajar.
Amara let out a soft laugh as she looked down at her son. “Peter, come look at him. He’s got your nose.”
Peter chuckled, wiping away a tear. “I hope he’s got your eyes.”
I watched quietly, happy for them but the presence of Theo lingering in the doorway was distracting. His gaze shifted toward me, and for a brief moment, I locked eyes with him.
I quickly looked away, unsure of what to say, or what to do.
“Would you like to hold him?” Amara asked as she glanced at me.
I froze, taken aback. “Me?” I stammered.
“Of course, you’re practically family now,” Amara replied with a smile. “Come on, hold your godson.”
I glanced at Fiona, and she gave me a gentle nudge and whispered. “Go on, Tiana. It’ll mean a lot to her.”
I hesitated for a moment before stepping forward, allowing Amara to hand me the tiny baby. He was so small, so fragile in my arms. I took a shaky breath as I cradled him.
“He’s beautiful,” I whispered, my voice barely audible.
Theo, who had been standing in the doorway, took a slow step inside. His eyes were focused on the baby, but I could feel his gaze drift to me, his presence suddenly making the room feel more suffocating.
I glanced at Amara, who seemed blissfully unaware of the tension. “He’s going to be a handful, isn’t he?” I asked softly.
Amara laughed lightly, her eyes sparkling. “He already is. I can feel it.”
I was barely able to register her words as my mind kept drifting back to Theo. He was still standing by the door, his arms crossed over his chest, his jaw clenched.
Amara shifted in her bed, "Tiana come closer. I want to tell you a secret."
"I'll pretend I'm not jealous," Layla huffed and we all laughed. "Can I hold him?"
"Sure!" Amara said and I handed the baby to her then moved closer to Amara who wiggled her brows “Tiana, what’s going on between you and Theo?”
My heart skipped a beat. My eyes darted to Theo, and then back to Amara. “What do you mean?” I asked, trying to sound casual.
“I just... I see the way you two look at each other,” Amara said. “There’s something there. I can tell. Something like a mate bond."
I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks. “There’s nothing going on, Amara.”
It seemed like Fiona heard because the moment I stepped back, Fiona glanced at me, a knowing look in her eyes, but she didn’t say anything.
Amara seemed to sense my hesitation and smiled softly. “It’s alright, Tiana. You don’t have to explain. But don’t keep things bottled up, okay?”
I nodded, unsure of what to say.
Just then, the door opened wider, and Theo walked into the room. "I suppose I can come in properly now?"
Amara looked up at him, her smile widening. “Theo, you finally decided to join us? I wondered why you kept standing at the door."
"Hm. But you ignored me. I'll pretend I wasn't heartbroken.."
"Come on, I didn't mean to," she pouted teasingly.
Theo gave a small nod. He moved closer to the bed, his eyes never leaving Amara or the baby in her arms. “Congratulations,” he said quietly, his voice low but sincere.
Amara smiled at him. “Thank you, Theo. It’s been a long night, but he’s here now.”
Theo stepped back, leaning against the wall, still watching me. I could feel his eyes on me, and my heart pounded in my chest.
Amara looked between the two of us, her smile fading slightly as she picked up on the tension. “Is there something I’m missing here?” she asked, her brow furrowing in confusion.
I opened my mouth to speak, but before I could say anything, Peter intervened.
“I think it’s just been an exhausting night for all of us,” Peter said with a soft chuckle. “Let’s give Amara some time to rest.”
Theo seemed to relax slightly, nodding in agreement. “Of course.”
Amara gave a soft yawn, her eyelids fluttering. “I think I could use a nap, too.”
Fiona and I exchanged a glance, silently deciding that it was time to leave the new parents to their rest.
“We’ll leave you to it,” Fiona said, standing up. “Rest well, Amara. Congratulations again.”
I followed her out of the room, but as I passed Theo, I couldn’t help but glance at him. He met my eyes, but there was no warmth in his gaze like he usually looked at me, only uncertainty.
As the door closed behind us, I felt a sharp pang in my chest. What was I supposed to do now? What was I supposed to feel?
What did that look mean?
