Rebirth Of The Rejected Luna Chapter 35: The Inn
**Theo's POV**
"Well I'm glad it means a lot to you," he said to me with a smile. We were rounding up our meal now, and we did so in silence.
"We should go up to get some rest," I said to him. "Leave the guards to themselves," I said, gesturing towards the men who were still eating their breakfast.
"Well, I must say I am exhausted. We have not stopped anywhere since we began our journey back home," he yawned. "And I've barely been able to sleep."
"It is understandable," I said, patting his back. "Plus you need to get all the rest that you can in order to prepare for what to face with the rogues at the border."
"Oh boy, I hope I'm not rusty," he grinned as we climbed up the stairs.
"You've always been a good fighter," I said to him. "I've always wished to be like you."
"Do not flatter me," he grinned. "I know that is what you're trying to do."
"Oh no," I waved dismissively. "I only speak the truth, father," I said to him with a smile. "Well, you get some rest, Father. I will be downstairs waiting for the arrival of the guards. I do hope they make it back in one piece."
"I'm certain that they will," he said. "At least I recognize at least two of them as fine fighters."
"If you recognize them, well I am quite certain that they will be fine."
"Have a good morning's rest," I said to him, closing the doors of the chamber and heading downstairs.
I knew that the guards and soldiers that had gone were not likely to arrive until it was well past evening time.
"Will you be joining us to wait outside?" One of the soldiers asked the moment he saw me alight the stairs.
"I think I would like to take a walk," I said to him.
"Would you like some of us to accompany you?" He asked.
"Not at all. I am fine on my own," I smiled at him.
"Your majesty, it is not safe for you to walk alone considering the rogue situation."
"I am quite certain the area around the inn is pretty safe," I said. "The inn owners would have said something if they were being plagued by rogues.
"You never know what may happen, Your Majesty," he said. "It is better to be safe than to be sorry. Even if you choose to go alone, at least you should wear protective coverage."
"I will be fine," I said with a small smile towards him.
"It's better to be safe than sorry Your Majesty. Allow us to come with you."
"Well, don your protective suit," I told him with a smile and went back up so I could do the same.
When we were both ready, we walked outside. The sun was higher up in the sky than it was this morning and it definitely burned.
"Bad time to take a walk huh?" I said to the two guards flanked at my left and right. They cleared their throat uneasily and looked at each other. I chuckled lightly, knowing that they did not want to say anything to offend me or go against my suggestions. "Feel free," I told them.
"Well, if the sun was not this scorching, it would have been a good time."
"The sun is usually scorching at this time," I said with a smile. "Just admit I made an unwise decision."
"I can understand that the wait must have been tiring," the soldier who had been the one to approach me on the stairs said. "You are used to keeping yourself busy at the palace with several affairs," he shrugged. "Here there is almost nothing to do than wait for the other soldiers and guards to return," he said.
"And we understand you must have wanted to clear your head," the other one said. "You must be thinking about it a lot. Trying to rectify the situation."
"Well, that I am thinking about," I signed. "Let us go back. I am already tired of this, especially with this hideous suit. It is not ideal for a—"
My statement was cut off by the sound of a sword slicing the air and blood spraying everywhere. The head of the rogue fell to the ground promptly.
"Thank you for your quick reflexes," I said to the soldier on my right.
"You are welcome, Your Majesty," he said with a small bow.
"Our sign to head back," the other one said. "We are not certain if this rogue was isolated from its group or if the others are still around."
"We have not walked too far from the inn so it means it is not safe," I said to him. "We need to let the innkeeper know that it is dangerous. Especially as they are half humans and do not even have a pack or clan."
"That is true. But after we leave, what shall become of them?"
I sighed, thinking about it. "I'm not sure yet. Maybe we should take them into the pack. But they would not want to leave their business."
"Well at least the rogues here have not mutated," he sighed. "So if bad turns to worse, whenever there are rogues around, they will lock up everywhere."
"This is also a road travellers use often so they should be fine," I added with a smile.
"I do not think this rogue was in a pack," one of the soldiers commented. "I think it was isolated."
"Yeah, or we would have had others come out after the smell of blood."
"It is honestly depressing that wolves have to turn rogue because of mental weakness," one of them sighed. "Or losing their mates. It is crazy."
And as he said mental weakness, my heart broke because of Tiana.
Just what if she had ended up turning rogue because of what she sent through? I swore to myself that I would make those responsible for it pay once I found out who it was.
