Rebirth Of The Rejected Luna Chapter 236: The Eastern Border
Tiana's POV
“You’re too bold,” Corvin said in a low, dangerous voice. He sounded like he was scolding a child who didn’t understand how serious things were. “How do I know you’re not here to start trouble?”
His words hit me hard, like a sudden slap across the face. I had to work hard to keep my expression calm. I heard the suspicion in his voice. I saw how his eyes narrowed. He wasn’t just talking about causing some trouble on the surface. No, he meant something that was somehow connected to Erika and everything he had buried with her.
It was very obvious that he felt like I was Erika but there was no logical way for him to prove that I was her. I was certain he was probably going to indulge in some kind of sorcery to confirm but he needed enough time to get a spell that worked that's why he felt he had to keep me in a holding cell.
But I wasn’t going to let him get to me. I couldn’t let him see that part of me that was actually Erika. That part wasn’t supposed to be there anymore. It was meant to stay hidden in the dark and I wasn’t going to let Corvin dig into that, not if I could stop him.
I didn’t say anything right away. I stayed quiet a little longer than I probably should have, feeling the silence grow. Every second without words made the tension even worse. Behind my back, my hand curled into a fist, but I forced myself to breathe and relax. I stood up straighter, trying to show him I wasn’t afraid. He needed to understand that I wasn’t someone to be pushed around.
Finally, I spoke, keeping my voice steady and calm. “Look,” I said, “I don’t have much time. If you think I’m here to spy or cause chaos, fine. Then have your guards walk with me to the Eastern border. Let them stay with me until I leave.”
Corvin didn’t move. His eyes stayed locked on mine. “And why should I trust you?” he asked.
I took a slow breath, trying not to sound annoyed. “Because, Corvin, I don’t want to waste time proving anything to you. But if I have to, I will. Let me go and I’ll take the straightest path to the border. Let your men follow me. If I try anything, you’ll know. If I sneak back in, do whatever you think is right. But until then, just let me go. I’m not trying to stir up problems. And honestly, do you really want to make enemies with Shadowclaw right now?”
I could tell he was thinking about it. His jaw clenched tight and his eyes were darting in different directions.
“If you’re so eager to prove yourself,” he said harshly, “why leave now? What makes you think I’ll just let you walk away, knowing the danger you carry with you?”
I raised my eyebrow, trying to stay cool. “Do I really seem that dangerous to you?” I asked. “Do I look like someone about to start a war? I’m not here for anything Corvin. I came here because I have something important to do and need to pass through your lands. The faster you let me leave, the faster I’ll be gone. Or would you rather waste time keeping me locked up until something bad happens?”
His hands were clenched into fists now. His body was tense. This wasn’t going the way I wanted, but I wasn’t about to give up. I didn’t have the luxury of time.
“You think I’m just going to let someone who claims they are from Shadowclaw walk free?” he said. "Too many people use the pack's name to lie knowing Roman and I are allies. You're saying just because you claim you're from Shadowclaw I should let you?'
“No,” I said, more quietly this time. “I’m saying that. There's proof of my citizenship of the pack. If you stop me now, you’ll regret it. Not just today, but for a long time.”
His eyes narrowed even more. I could see he didn’t believe me. He was watching me closely, trying to figure out who I really was and it made me slightly uneasy so I had to calm myself.
He stepped closer until I could feel his heat, his breath. “You think you scare me?” he growled. “You’re not the only one with power, Talia. You're just a commander, I am an alpha of the Lycans."
I smiled then. Not out of joy, but because I’d seen power before—every kind of it—and I knew how to use it when I had to. “You’re right,” I told him. “I'm not the only one with power, but I’m not trying to start a fight. I’m just asking you to let me go. I’m not your enemy, Corvin. I’m not even your problem.”
Finally, Corvin exhaled. His shoulders dropped just slightly, and I knew he was giving in, at least a little. “Fine,” he said, short and cold. “You’ll go to the border. I’ll be watching you closely. Don’t think for one second I trust you. I’m not a fool.”
I gave a small nod, feeling like I had won something, even if it wasn’t much. “That’s all I want,” I replied.
But deep down, I knew it wasn’t over. Not by a long shot. If it was possible, I knew that Corvin would even ask them to follow me where I was going just to be certain my story was true.
I really hoped he would not though because if I visited Cecilia— Erika's grandmother, he would sure as hell become extremely suspicious of me.
Finally, Corvin turned to one of the guards. “Get a patrol ready. We’re taking her to the Eastern border. No funny business,” he ordered. Then he looked back at me, his eyes hard again. “If you try anything, I’ll come after you myself. This is my land. Don’t forget that.”
