Rebirth Of The Rejected Luna Chapter 148: Betrayed By Love

**Erika’s POV**

I didn’t look back.

Not at the pack.

Not at the towering gates closing behind me.

Not at Carlo.

The morning air was crisp, carrying the last traces of the night’s chill, sharp enough to sting my lungs with every inhale. Apparently, Carlo had begged for me to leave by dawn the next morning instead of before sundown so I would have enough time to pack everything before leaving the pack. I had sent a homing pigeon to my grandmother who lived at the forest outside the pack to tell her the situation and she let me know that her sources inside the pack already told her and I should be careful because she was certain they would kill me.

She had a vision I was poisoned.

Yesterday, I had wanted to just die so I ate what Carlo offered me not caring if it was poisoned or not but when I woke up this morning, I knew that I was not poisoned. However that did not guarantee that I was not going to be killed on my journey.

I walked steadily, each step careful and controlled. My boots pressed into the dirt path, the only sound being the soft crunch of dried leaves and twigs beneath them. The men escorting me, Corvin's warriors, walked silently beside me, their eyes fixed on me like hawks. Their hands rested on their weapons, ready for anything.

I knew why they didn't speak to me. To them, I was nothing but a problem to be solved, a burden to be gotten rid of. I was the daughter of a traitor, an exile to be erased from the pack's memory. The thought made my jaw clench, my throat burning with anger.

They had taken everything from me. They had taken my mother, ripping her away from me before I could even fight for her. And now, they were sending me away, washing their hands off me as if I had never mattered. The pack was behind me now, the only home I had ever known fading into the distance.

I refused to look back, refused to give them the satisfaction of seeing me hesitate. I kept my eyes fixed on the path ahead, my heart heavy with anger and sadness.

If they wanted me gone, then I would leave.

But I wouldn’t forget.

And I sure as hell wouldn’t forgive.

I would find out the truth and get my revenge.

The dirt road stretched out before me, uneven and winding, as it led me away from the pack's territory and toward the dense forest that marked its boundary. The trees loomed in the distance, their bare branches casting twisted shadows against the dawn light, making it seem like the forest was waiting to engulf me.

As I walked, the sounds of the pack grew fainter, replaced by an unsettling silence. There was no more chatter, no clang of hammer on metal, no laughter of children. Just the whisper of the wind through the trees and the sound of my own breathing.

It was then that I realized the truth: I was alone. But I refused to break. Not here, not now, not in front of the warriors escorting me. I forced my gaze ahead, focusing on the road and the trees that marked the edge of the pack's territory. If I could just make it there, maybe I could breathe again.

But then, I felt something off. At first, it was subtle. Just faint sensation in my limbs, a heaviness that I thought was just exhaustion. My shoulders ached, my legs felt heavy, and my fingers tingled as if they were losing feeling.

I tried to brush it off, telling myself it was just exhaustion, grief, and stress catching up with me. But as the hours dragged on, the sensation grew worse. A creeping chill seeped into my veins, despite the sun rising above the trees. My breath came in labored gasps, the air feeling thick and heavy, like an invisible weight was pressing down on my chest.

My vision began to blur at the edges, the trees swaying slightly, even though there was no wind. I clenched my fists, my nails biting into my palms as I struggled to stay focused. I had to keep walking, no matter what. I couldn't let the warriors see me falter.

But my body was betraying me. A wave of dizziness struck me out of nowhere, my balance tilting as the world around me spun. I stumbled, my boot catching against a root on the forest floor. For a heart-stopping moment, I thought I was going to fall. But I managed to steady myself, my heart racing with fear.

One of the warriors glanced my way, eyes narrowing slightly in suspicion, but he said nothing.

I swallowed hard, forcing myself to keep walking, but it was getting harder by the second. The numbness in my limbs spread, making every step feel like a monumental effort. My skin burned with a strange, alternating heat and cold, and my stomach twisted with a nauseating sensation that had nothing to do with hunger.

And then, without warning, everything came crashing down. A violent wave of dizziness slammed into me, my vision darkening so fast it felt like the ground had been yanked out from under me. My legs buckled, and I reached out blindly, desperate to grasp something - anything - to keep myself upright. But there was nothing. Just empty air.

The last thing I saw was the sky, the sunlight breaking through the leaves in a blindingly bright flash. And then... Darkness.

Carlo had betrayed me.

**Alpha Corvin’s POV**

It was an extremely long day of waiting but finally, the report came just before dusk.

“She’s dead,” the guard said, bowing his head. “Collapsed in the forest, no signs of life.”

I sat back in my chair, fingers steepled together. It was done. Erika was gone. The last loose end. The only thing left of Lady Althea’s tainted bloodline.
