Rebirth Of The Rejected Luna Chapter 79: Fight For What You Want

**Theo’s POV**

Day two had passed and Tiana and I had barely had any time to talk to ourselves. My father made it a point to keep me busy with as many women as possible no matter how hard I tried to make it clear I wasn't interested. My ultimatum had ended before I could see Tiana and now, I was summoned to the inner council chambers once more.

I stared at the council chamber doors like they were the jaws of a beast ready to devour me whole. The upcoming meeting felt like a death sentence. If I walked in unprepared, I’d be handing Peter my title without a fight.

But I wouldn’t let that happen.

Elder Jael had summoned me for a private discussion so we had agreed to meet in the council chambers an hour before the meeting was to start. I opened the door slowly, its hinges creaking softly as it opened.

She was standing at the window by the room, her silhouette framed by the dim light of a single torch. Her silver hair cascaded over her shoulders. As she heard the door and my footsteps, she turned to face me immediately.

Her piercing green eyes studied me sharply. I noticed there was an open book in her hand.

“You look like a wolf cornered by hunters, Theo,” she said without lifting her gaze.

“Should I not?” I asked, unable to keep the bitterness from my tone. “My father has backed me into an impossible corner, and now he’s rallying the council against me. You all are hunters and I'm the wolf here... Or better still, you all are wolves and I'm nothing but a squirrel in your midst."

She closed the book she was holding with a deliberate thud and finally looked up. “Your father sees leadership as a chess game. To him, appearances matter more than the pieces themselves. But tell me, do you believe Peter is the Alpha this pack needs?”

“No,” I said without hesitation. "That's what this meeting is about right? Deciding to give Peter power?"

She ignored my question entirely. “Then why do you act like a boy about to lose his favorite toy instead of a wolf ready to fight for what’s his?”

I stepped closer, leaning against the table. “What would you have me do, Elder? Marry a woman I don’t love? Force Tiana into a choice she’s not ready to make?”

Jael’s gaze sharpened. “Do you love her?”

“Yes.”

“Then fight for her, for the pack, for your rightful place. But remember this—strength isn’t found in ultimatums or rage. It’s found in the wisdom to know when to push and when to wait.”

I sighed and sat down. It meant that the council wanted an Alpha, not a desperate heir just wanting his father to name him heir.

Soon enough, the other members of the inner council began to file in. I noticed that they had summoned Peter as well and he did not seem surprised to see me here which meant he knew.

What I didn't know was whether he was fully aware of what the meeting was going to entail.

Once we were all complete in the room my father cleared his throat to speak. "Theo, you have failed thereby you leave me no choice."

"Failed?"

"Two days have gone by and your future Luna has not been chosen," he said. "I gave you the choice, the freedom to choose a bride instead of shoving one down your neck and you cannot come to a conclusion."

"You want such a decision to be rushed?" I scoffed. "What if under all this pressure I choose the wrong bride? The future of the pack will be in jeopardy because you're trying to hasten this up."

"Then that proves you are not worthy to be alpha," he said with a smile. "What if you're presented with an emergency situation? Will you make a bad decision and blame it on the emergency when your decision begins to affect the pack?"

"Your father is right Theo," Peter whispered to me.

"I will be announcing Peter as my new heir and you take to the position as his Beta at the next general council meeting."

"Father!" I exclaimed, standing up. I was beyond outraged. "I am your son... The one who carries royal blood."

"And you are not fit to be Alpha," he said while walking towards the door. "This meeting is dismissed."

"The next general council meeting is in three days, you have till then," Elder Thaddeus said and after that, the rest of the inner council departed apart from Peter whose expression was calm but distant. “Theo.”

"Peter, do you have a minute?”

He nodded and followed me out of the chamber, down a quiet hallway. I waited until we were alone before turning to face him.

“You’ve been quiet,” I said, crossing my arms. “Too quiet.”

Peter raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”

I took a step closer, lowering my voice. “You sat there like a statue while my father painted me as a failure. You didn’t say a word in my defense.”

“I didn’t think I needed to,” he said evenly.

I scoffed. “Didn’t need to? You’ve seen how hard I’ve worked to prove myself. How hard I’ve fought for this pack. And yet, you just sat there, indifferent, like this doesn’t concern you.”

“It doesn’t,” Peter said. “I’m not the one pushing for succession, Theo. That’s between you and your father.”

“Really?” I said, my tone sharp. “Because from where I’m standing, it feels like you’re just waiting for them to hand you the title.”

Peter’s eyes narrowed, and for the first time, I saw a flicker of frustration in his gaze. “You think I want this?”

“I don’t know what to think anymore,” I admitted, my voice rising. “You haven’t exactly been clear about where you stand. You’re my Beta—my friend—and yet, you act like this is just another council debate. How am I supposed to trust you when you’re so... indifferent?”
