Her CEO Stalker and Her Second Chance Mate Chapter 11

Adelaide

I stood outside the lawyer’s office, my mind on my new persona. Mama never used my middle name for my school records or anything else, so it was fitting that the name my father had given me would protect me in this new life. It was like a sense of peace was washing over me, washing away yesterday to herald in tomorrow. My daddy had died before I was born, but he had given me one thing before he died, and that had become my new beginning. He hadn’t known it then, but he had saved my life just now.

I was now Briar Adelaide Anderson. The lawyer had advised I only remove the money from my mothers inheritance as my uncle’s were secured under other means. Whatever that meant, I didn’t know. He said once I was settled, those accounts could be accessed with my new name automatically transferring over into my possession with a few signatures. He claimed I had time to handle all that later, as the accounts were monitored by one of his accountants whom Uncle Jake also used through Mr. Monroe’s services.

I heard him coming before the Bobber cruised up. I didn’t ask questions. I just jumped on and he flew into the sunset to another town that I didn’t bother catching the name of. Once inside the hotel room, I set my bags down before pulling off my hoodie, my bruises still visible, but ever so slowly fading. How close had he come to completely ending me? Too close. He wouldn’t get the satisfaction. I would move on and live my life somehow. I set the Android phone and the laptop box on the table. Beck stripped off his leather vest, setting his bag near the bed closest to the door.

“I got you a bus ticket as close as I could get you to whatever sort of hole in the wall town you're going to, and everything else you asked for, too,” he let me know, as I pulled out my things for the night. Beck took the bag he had lashed to the back of the bike, and set it on  the table.

I sat down in an oversized Tweety Bird tee, which fell off one shoulder, and came down to my thighs. I opened the boxes and plugged in the devices, setting them to auto update. I opened a bag of chips before creating a new email and logging into my very old instant messenger account with my high school details. The chat box popped up and my fingers flew across the keys. Beck stood behind me watching over my shoulder, transfixed, as if this was all new to him.

‘Misty, where are you? I need you,’ my fingers drummed on the table impatiently.

‘Where the fuck have you been, girl? The city is in an uproar looking for you. Your Prince Charming CEO boss man is worried to death!’

How did I tell her?

‘He can go jump off a cliff, for all I care. I dumped him and he kidnapped me. My face has seen better days, but I’m safe, for now. I’m not coming back, Misty. I need to stay under the radar. I’ve got a new number, but I’ll call you on my way to my uncle’s place.’

‘OMG, you're serious?’

‘Never been more serious in my life and those are just the details touching the surface. I was too dumb, Misty. I fucked up.’

‘This isn’t your fault,’

‘Don’t do anything stupid. When I’m settled, you can come visit me, and I’ll tell you all about it,” I promised.

‘I miss you already!’

‘I miss you, too! Oh, and if a six-foot-four, silver-haired biker-guy, covered in tattoos, shows up at your door, he's a friend.’

‘You mean an emotionally mature man? He sounds hot, I’ll be waiting.” Beck snorted behind me.

‘Oh, and he likes gummy worms, pizza, and burgers.”

‘He speaks our language, bestie,”

‘That he does, but I gotta go, Love you.”

‘Love you, too!’

Beck shook his head, not saying anything more on the subject. “Your bus leaves at 2 am,” was all he let me know before I set the time on my phone, and he disappeared into the bathroom.

Beck drove us in the darkness through the small town on the outskirts where the buses stopped. I got off the bike, the hefty wad of money sitting in my backpack. I bent to return the blade to him and he grabbed my arm shaking his head no.

“Keep it, you proved an hour ago you know what you're doing with it. Just be sure to always keep it on you and keep your wits about you.” He reached over to the satchel that held all my money that I hadn’t inherited. I took several wads out and pushed the rest back to him.

“Keep it, or pay it forward. I have plenty”

“I don’t want your money, girl,”

“Too bad, it’s yours now. Thank you, for everything. You don’t know how lucky I feel to have met you, in the right place, at the right time. You’re my guardian angel.” I leaned in and kissed his cheek and I swear the old man went soft and blushed.

“Take care of yourself,”

“I will,” I promised, before we smiled at each other and I forced myself to turn away. I’d miss Beck. He was one of the good ones.
