Her CEO Stalker and Her Second Chance Mate Chapter 135
Briar
One moment, I was bracing to cuss Carter out for whatever it was he was doing, stripping in the middle of the back yard, and the next, the silver blue eyes of the wolf who had been keeping me company when I was in my deepest thoughts stared back at me. I took a step back, my heart racing in my chest. Carter was the wolf, the same wolf that Misty had sent me images of from the cameras as he lay against the front door to the house every night since I had left him. The animal whined and sat back on his haunches, watching me.
“C…Carter?” I stammered as I fell to my knees, my mind raced as it tried to comprehend. My eyes shut, and Byron's words came back to me. I sought that other presence, and it rose to greet me. I opened my eyes, viewing Carter in his magnificent form, a silver and dark grey wolf, powerful and muscular, as his bushy tail wrapped around his front paws. Rightness consumed my being. Carter stood, taking a tentative step forward. I splayed my arms out, in an inviting gesture, as tears streaked my face with the overwhelming chorus of emotions thrumming through my being. The wolf before me loped cautiously forward, no doubt afraid to spook me until we were face to face. His nose nudged my cheek and licked the tears that still fell. My arms fell around him, fingers finding coarse and soft fur. I sobbed, burying my face in his coat. I had missed him so fucking much. I understood now why he hadn’t told me, who would believe this?
He whined, sniffing the crook of my neck, before settling his massive head on my shoulder, and burrowing his face into my hair. Martha had explained some things about my parents, but she didn’t know everything and didn’t want to speculate and give me false information. Those revelations had been a lot to take in, and I just came up with more questions she didn’t have the answers to. There was still so much to uncover. We stayed like that a while before Carter slipped out of my arms and stepped back, letting his human form wash over him once more. He watched me worriedly as if afraid I’d run off as he pulled on his clothes.
“This is a lot,” I admitted out loud. “And you say I’m like you?” he nodded in confirmation. “I can feel it,” I confided.
“I can sense her,” Carter confirmed, as he guided me by the small of my back up to the deck where we found Rosie had devoured the muffins as Tucker sat on the railing and meowed a greeting, jumping down as Rosie welcomed me excitedly.
“You came to the house the other day.” Carter stated.
I nodded, “Rosie and Tucker got out, I brought them home before you got off work.” I said, picking up Tucker who just purred.
“Come on, let’s whip up some breakfast since Rosie ate your muffins,” he said, opening the back door. I held Tucker to me, thinking about where I wanted to be with Carter now.
“I’m not ready to come home yet Carter, I still have a lot to figure out. It’s overwhelming,”
“That's ok as long as you know I am here and we move forward however you choose. But today, breakfast because I know we have both been skipping out on meals.”
I found that fact bothered me; he was feeling the same as I did, so I reluctantly nodded and walked inside.
