Her CEO Stalker and Her Second Chance Mate Chapter 121

Mazzie

Carter was an absolute wreck. It was hard to see. His remorse was paletable…however his mate had been in his face for several months and he had failed to give her the tools and information she needed to avoid the situation they were in now. I understood her reasons for backing away, for being rightfully angry; but as Carter told me how Clyde had spun it all, I could only think about was what a dick my Alpha was and how to mend this train wreck between my and Lana’s besties.

Lana and I had decided we weren’t taking sides. However, we would support them both. That meant Lana was with Briar and I was with Carter on this, we would meet in the middle and try to guide them through this the best we could. We had been there once upon a time. I had never seen Carter so broken. It was like his heart had been ripped from his chest as tears fell and whiskey was poured. Lana sent me a few pictures of Briar when she wasn’t looking. She had the same dismal look in her eyes that Carter did. I noted the gallon of moosetracks icecream in her lap and the discarded cartons of take out and alcohol on the table. Well, that was a win at least, she was eating even if mindlessly. I knew in the beginning that had troubled Carter the most, her aversion to fulfill such a basic necessity as nourishment. Briar needed time and answers. Carter, on the other hand, need to keep his head above water until she realized Clyde's accusations were twisted tools of manipulation. If she ever decided to hear Carter out the preverbeal bombs he would be dropping wouldn’t be easy to swallow. She needed to be in the right headspace for that.

When Carter passed out I tossed a blanket over him, he was sleeping restlessly. Rosie and Tucker had shown their disapproval by sauntering upstairs choosing to ignore us the rest of the night. I got up and flicked the TV off and made my way to the spare room. This was so fucking messy. Carter would have to tread a careful line in the meantime. Clyde would have his sights on him. His sudden interest in Briar had me worried. Lana had said she was strong, now I wondered exactly how strong her emerging wolf was. Clyde had a thing for power; why when he seemed content running his own little pack in the middle of nowhere was he suddenly interested in a half human, unshifted wolf? Carter had said Clyde knew who her father was, that just had my mind reeling with more questions and I wondered if the answer was what we all thought or some secret we were all being taken for fools for.

Mazzie: I need you to get me Misty’s number, I don’t care how you do it but there is more at play here then meets the eye.

Lana: I’ll get it, one way or another. Nothing is adding up here. Love you Queen.

Lana’s endearment coursed through me.

Mazzie: Love you too, princess

I stripped out of my uniform and crawled under the sheets. The thing about secrets was that they always had their way of slipping out. I just hoped Briar could take these life altering bombs in stride when the time came.

Carter’s alarm blared in the morning, rousing me from sleep. I groaned and threw on the clothes I kept here for when we stayed the night. When I got to the kitchen it was empty so I made my way downstairs to his in-home gym. He was running full throttle on the treadmill. Shit. This wasn’t a good sign.
