Her CEO Stalker and Her Second Chance Mate Chapter 163
Byron
My nephew and I were the last two to slip out of the garage and leave town. The others had kissed their wives goodbye this morning and slipped out throughout the day to the meeting point. Every minute mattered in times like these, but so did patience. If I were going stir crazy watching the clock, I doubted Briar was doing any better; this girl just couldn’t get a break. Some guy named Beck was our point of contact, and some lady named Misty was pulling all the strings. I locked up right on time when Buck pulled in with Miranda on the back of his hog. This was a problem.
“Can I help you with something, Buck?” He glanced around the yard at all the projects.
“Where is everyone?”
“Left early, today’s projects are done,” I said with a shrug. “Now, is there something you needed? I’ve got a home-cooked meal waiting for me at home, I'd best be getting to.”
“Haven’t seen that bitch of a boss of yours slinking around town lately, where is she at?” Miranda asked.
“No idea, she's been working from home. Haven’t seen her since last Friday for payroll, and I might add you might want to be careful how you address my boss, cuz people around here are coming to respect her, don’t want to bark that bullshit up the wrong tree,” I told them.
“Let me guess you’re one of those half wolf lovers? Ready to let just anyone from the outside waltz right in here and steal business from local folks,”
“Well that's a load of horse shit, because she didn’t take anything from anyone, we were too backed up so our business shifted to yours, now she's got us caught up. We are reclaiming our original customers. You’re welcome for the temporary influx,” I said as I started walking to my car. This had Clyde spelled all over it. “Not to mention half of the ones coming back do nothing but complain about your piss poor attitude and how this one hits on anything that moves,” I said, pointing to Miranda.
“Maybe you should take some notes from Briar and stop being a home wrecking slut and get your hands dirty another way.”
“You’re such a fucking liar,” Miranda rolled her eyes.
“Watch your mouth, Byron,” Buck growled.
“What are you going to do, Buck? It’s the truth, she’s always trying to take things that don’t belong to her. And you all act like she's some innocent bystander always being wronged. The truth is, she manipulates all of you, probably because she’s putting out. Heard Briar made her submit. She needs to learn to stay the fuck down.” The truth seemed to make them angry, good, that's what I wanted. I wanted to cut to the chase.
“Why do you wanna know where Briar is?”
“Clyde, sent us to check on Carter, figured he’d be with her,”
“That's funny coming from him, thought she was Carter’s job.”
“He’s not answering,”
I shrugged, “Maybe they took a day trip, those two had a falling out, perhaps they worked it out,” I said, just to get under Miranda’s skin.
“Besides, that man is entitled to step away from those kinds of duties now,”
“What do you mean?” Miranda asked, looking for details.
“Perhaps you should ask him yourself when you see him next. Not to mention, you're both full of bullshit, Clyde always knows where Carter is,” I held up my phone and pointed to it. “He can track any of us if he has the notion to do so.” I slid my phone back into my pocket.
“Ya know Buck I heard Carter put you on your ass not too long ago, maybe you should learn to stay down too.” I snarked and by the look of him I hit a nerve, good.
“Now, I need to get home, my dinner is getting cold." I said, hopping in my truck and pretending to do just that, my nephew slid in beside me, instead of getting on his bike. He hadn’t said a damn word, didn’t even have a clue what was going on or what I was about to ask him next.
“Whats going on?” he asked, as I pulled out.
“There comes a time in every young man’s life when he has to make choices that define who he is going to become, this is one of those choices. I know you don’t know Briar well, and I know what everyone is wondering, but she's not Jake’s daughter in the physical sense but she’s his daughter in every way that truly matters. She's a good person, so is Carter and they are in a pickle. I’m not gonna lie, helping them is gonna put a target on anyone’s back in our Alpha’s eyes, so I understand…”
“I’ll help,” he said quickly. And I checked my rearview mirror to make sure we weren’t being followed.
“Turn your phone off son,” I said, powering mine off and heading to the checkpoint to meet up with the others.
Briar
The second the sounds of Carter’s screams hit my ears, I went to bolt up and rush for him, I had to make it stop. But Mazzie came at me like a freight train, tackling me to the ground, her hand clamped over my mouth as I screamed into it. My body trembled and I wanted to burst out of my skin as I sobbed without control. Lana crouched in front of me.
Her words were soft as she spoke them. “I know it hurts Briar, but he is strong because of his love for you. He will endure this; we can’t do this alone. We need the others; we can’t save him on our own. We go in there now, and all will be lost, and that devil will drag you off, he will make sure your child doesn't survive. Carter will be dead, and if you thought what you went through before was bad, he will do that tenfold. The only way out of this, with all of us alive, is sticking to the plan. I know it's hard, but for him, you have to endure it or all his pain and suffering will be for nothing. All Carter cares about right now is keeping you and the baby safe, if that devil is focused on him, he’s distracted; that means we have a chance.”
I let out a wail of frustration which Mazzie muffled before I stopped fighting her. Slowly she released me. Another one of Carter’s screams pierced the air, tears rolled down my cheeks.
“That piece of shit dies tonight,” I swore before curling into the fetal position as my body shook and quaked the shift threatening, covering my ears. I let my mind past the beast clawing at me from within to that place I felt him. The agony surrounded by a warmth of love.
Hold on, I love you,
