Her CEO Stalker and Her Second Chance Mate Chapter 192

Misty

After breakfast Briar insisted we go see the house. The last time I had seen it on the cameras was when Carter had been overtaken by Creedon’s men. I had watched him that day pulling out mattresses and such after they had defiled the place. I knew only a miracle would have it ready to live in but I’d humor her. We packed up all the presents and our things, having to put some of it in Carter’s truck. My little SUV couldn’t hold it all. Briar had gone overboard this year, I guess now that she had money, she was triggered to spend it wherever she saw an opportunity. We followed Carter’s truck Beck behind us on his bike. Lana and Mazzie had gone home, said they had to pick something up and would be back later with it.

When we pulled up to the house I didn’t recognize it. The fresh coat of paint had brought the old place to life, even the garage had been painted to match the house. Along the porch open planters sat waiting for spring to be filled with flowers or whatever we liked. I stepped out of the car, Cricket following me as I stood staring at the place key in hand.

Briar eased out of Carter’s truck when Carter stepped around to open the door. So the new alpha was chivalrous. I smiled, my bestie deserved it.

“What are you waiting for?” Briar asked impatiently, dragging me up the steps. I was vaguely aware of Beck taking up the rear as Cricket hopped excitedly at my side. Finally I let out a breath and turned the key. When I opened the door my jaw dropped.

Not only had they cleaned it up and painted it fresh. They had opened up the floorplan and decorated it in a way only I could have dreamed of. I lived very carefully and didn’t spend much on things around the house. Only buying things I needed for functionally and framing a handful of prized pictures.

The furniture was new, so were the appliances, the soft grey walls permeated a calming effect. Macrame wall hangings graced the walls and a hanging chair stuffed with pillows hung in the corner next to a book case full of books. There was an alcove set up with a desk and chair to the right of the door for my computer and things and a dining table and chairs. That was something I had always wanted to own, a matching set. What I had in the apartment was a mismatched indoor/outdoor table with random chairs I had found and fixed from the side of the road.

Briar grabbed Cricket’s hand and led us both down the hall. She pushed open the bathroom door to show they had replaced the old bath and shower and the sink and toilet. My mind spun. This was too much. She then dragged us to the smaller bedroom. Holy mother fucking shit, they had decked it out in Cricket’s dream decore, Care Bears and My Little Pony from the curtains to the bed. Another smaller hanging chair in the corner with a case full of books and an art station in the corner. A desk decked out with paper crayons and anything else my daughter could desire to create. Cricket squealed and jumped into investigation mode, and found the dresser full of clothes. She had thought of every detail, I had doubted her love for me and she had given me all of this. I didn’t deserve this. She had killed for me. I owed her a life debt from my heart for that.

My friend tugged my hand, I felt numb as she led me to the master bedroom, her uncle’s room. My jaw dropped. A massive macrame tree of life was on the wall behind the rustic king sized bed. The bed was made with care, crochet accent pillows and all. A docking zone on the night stand to charge all of my devices. A rustic dresser adorned with vintage hardwear. It was like she had taken a Pinterest board straight from my mind and created the perfect space. I didn’t know what to say.

“It’s beautiful,” I said in awe, feeling dumb.

“You deserve for all of your dreams to come true. Had I known about everything else…” she stammered.

“It’s perfect,” I cut her off as a million things ran through my mind. How she had made this happen, with everything else she was dealing with I couldn’t fathom. My friend had taken so much consideration for me and my daughter. I felt tears well up in my eyes. I didn’t cry for shit. This however hit me in my gut, the emotions rushing to the surface. Guilt wracked me. I had doubted I meant much to her anymore. This proved otherwise.

“You know Jake was the only person I told what I did that night. He told me a good friend was worth it. You are worth it Misty. You deserve the world and I hope you can find this place home. He would have approved, you know.”

I looked at her questioningly.

“You’re the first true friend I ever made. I used to tell him about you. He told me to keep you close and safe. So I’m doing what he told me to do. You, Cricket and Beck I count as family, giving you this—Jake would have approved. As Alpha of this pack I’ll make sure Cricket is protected. I don’t care that she is different, she’s family, chosen family… that’s deeper than pack or blood. I promise you will be shielded here, so that Cricket can grow up knowing who she is. There may still be a few asshole’s to weed out, but I will do everything in my power to ensure that this will be a sanctuary for you.
