Her CEO Stalker and Her Second Chance Mate Chapter 136
My readers,
I apologize. There was an issue with the numbering on chapters when I moved to a different document. I had added more chapters, and adjusting the numbers didn't save. The internet has been weird in the world lately. I have submitted the fix and alerted my editor, and will be giving the missing chapters today 10/26/25. She will hopefully get it fixed in the next 24 hours. That being said, the error started at 133, and I will submit until the chapters I have posted, so that you have all of the chapters you were missing as well as what you have already read.
Briar
The state of the kitchen wasn’t any better than before, though the trash had been taken out and the torn-up check was no longer on the floor. He ashamedly rubbed at the back of his neck, looking over the unwashed dishes, and began rinsing them and putting them into the dishwasher. I didn’t stop him; I didn’t have the energy right now to do them myself. I doubt he did either. I opened the fridge, appraising the contents. He needed to clean it out. I shook my head, not commenting. Mine was only better because Lana polished off anything we didn’t eat, which was a lot since cooking the food had been much different than stomaching eating it. I found bacon and eggs, and a clean frying pan.
“You said I’m like you, so why haven’t I wolfed out?” I asked, lining the bacon into the skillet.
“You grew up among humans, without a pack, when you came here and got close to some of us that changed,” he explained. I stilled as the bacon began to sizzle. The memory of Creedon finding me in the elevator came to my mind.
“Creedon, he’s one too? You said he failed me, that you were my second chance.” I asked for clarity.
“He is, and that's what makes him so dangerous. He’s an Alpha like Clyde. Sometimes, the first pairing of soulmates doesn’t go as our creator intended. It’s rare, though, that we receive a second chance. I flipped the bacon in the pan, then took that in as I thought about it.
“He cornered me before he took me, I was angry and my skin was vibrating like something wanted to burst out.” Carter paused what he was doing to look at me.
“Maybe your wolf saw the threat and was trying to protect you, this was after you rejected him?”
I nodded. “Am I just going to burst into a wolf while im walking down mainstreet?” I asked, appalled. I let my eyes shift to Carter’s. He shook his head.
“No, not unless someone is incredibly stupid. You’re a dominant Briar, it’s something we can all sense when your wolf pushes at the surface. Only a stupid wolf would try to force you out.
“You mean like Miranda? Cuz I dragged her out of the pizza place by her hair the other day, in the middle of lunch hour,” he just chuckled. “I would have paid to see that.”
“Well, I’m sure someone has a video of it, ask around,” I said, flailing the spatula around before I pulled the bacon out.
“I’m sure she deserved it,” Carter said with a shrug.
“Apparently she wants every woman’s dick,” I spat as I cracked eggs over the bacon grease left in the pan. Life was too much, let me clog my arteries and see what happens. I thought.
“She has always been that way, I used to find it kinda sad until it was me on the receiving end.” he admitted.
“That is sad,” I agreed as I wondered what caused a woman to be like that.
“So, what in the actual fuck do I do with this wolf inside me? How do I let her out and what’s this dominance thing you are talking about?” I asked while I gently flipped the eggs.
“Well, it sounds like she was going to go after your ex, and though that would have saved you it would have also damned you, but that means he knows exactly what you are and he’s going to stop at nothing until he makes you submit to him,” Carter said gravely as he held out the plates for the eggs as I pulled them and placed them on his offered plates.
“You're rare, Briar. Dominant females make males like Creedon go nutz because they want to dominate their power. He may be more dominant than you, but in reality, you hold more power. Power over him, that's why he did what he did to you… In an effort to break you. When a male like that can walk you around on his arm, like a conquered prize, it tells others he is powerful, at least in the werewolf world.”
My eyes looked down at the floor, still holding the spatula as I let those words sink in. It just made me more pissed off, though it made sense. In Creedon’s sadistic mind, making me bow proved him superior, gave him more power if he could have broken me and kept me as a trophy. Though after what he did, I doubted he ever intended for me to see the light of day.
The spatula was pulled from my hand, yanking me out of those dark thoughts. I couldn’t meet Carter's eyes as everything rushed back to me. I found myself steered to the island where I sat on a stool. A plate of food was placed before me, my mouth salivated, but my stomach churned. Carter took the seat beside me as I stared ahead unseeing. His knee pressed into mine and I found mine pushing back against his. I looked up. His expression was haggard, pleading even as he nodded to the food before me. I picked up the fork and took a bite. Carter exhaled and did the same. I could taste the food for a change and I dove in, halfway through I glanced over and Carter was doing the same but I had too many questions. I sighed.
“So where do I fall in this dominance shit?” I asked, dipping a piece of bacon into my runny egg and peering over at him.
“I don’t know yet, I guess we will see when you shift, but my gut tells me you’re more dominant than I am or at least an equal,” he admitted, shoving an entire egg into his mouth.
“How do I do that?”
