Her CEO Stalker and Her Second Chance Mate Chapter 172

Briar

The ride home was rough. Carter passed out, and Byron and Larson helped me get him into one of the downstairs bedrooms. They had put my bike in the back and were unloading it when Mazzie and Lana showed up.

“Dr. Taylor is on his way,” Mazzie let me know as Lana sat carefully next to me on the bed and wrapped her arms around me. I hugged her back and took a deep breath. She smelt like orchids and fresh fallen snow. It soothed my wolf, so I took in a deep inhale. Lana was like my soul sister; it seemed my wolf agreed.

Byron stepped in. I noticed he talked a lot more one-on-one than he did around others, so as he seemed to pause, I gave him an encouraging smile.

“Uhh, the boys and I will take care of the shop, don’t you worry about that. I just want you to know,” his voice seemed to get hoarse. “Jake would be really proud of you, Briar. You have taken this all with grace and overcome so much. It shows in your strength of character, not just your wolf. If you two need anything, don’t hesitate to ask.” he paused again. “Also, congratulations on the baby and the mating, Jake would have approved,” he said, his eyes misty. “I just wish he were here to see it for himself,” he added, choked up. It brought similar emotions up in me as Larson clapped him on the back.

“Now that you’re settled, we will get out of the way so the doctor can work,” Larson said, steering his uncle out of the room. Tucker had curled up on Carter’s pillow, and Rosie had curled up beside him, her concerned eyes watching him. She whined, and I patted her for comfort as Lana released me. The three of us shared a look.

“He’ll be okay, Briar,” Mazzie promised.

I looked at Carter’s pale features.

“I just hate seeing him like this; it tears up my insides,” I admitted.

Lana took my hand, giving it a squeeze of support.

A knock came from the front door, and Mazzie left to get it. I grabbed Ole Betty; she had been leaning against the nightstand. I was still paranoid as fuck and anxious with Carter in this state.

“Thanks for coming Dr Taylor, he’s in bad shape,” I heard Mazzie from the other room as I listened in. Wolf hearing had its perks. I set the gun back where I had taken it from, Lana giving me an understanding look.

Dr Taylor appeared in the doorway. He was a tall, lean, older man with round glasses; he had an aura of kindness about him as he took us in. When his eyes landed on Carter, his face went grave.

“What on earth happened to him?” he asked before taking another look at me. I had done the best I could to wipe off the blood with a kitchen towel before throwing on a T-shirt and a pair of leggings from my bag. Lana had retrieved my boots, but I knew if he didn’t see the blood, he could most definitely smell it on me.

“Wolfsbane,” I said, motioning to Carter to pull the attention from me. I had cleaned him up the best I could, but the deep cuts still oozed.

Dr Taylor rounded the bed and set his bag on the foot before coming closer for a better look. He bent over Carter, gentle hands testing his pulse, and testing the skin around the worst wounds, causing them to bubble. A growl escaped me, and he pulled back, narrowing his eyes at me.

“She’s his mate,” Mazzie let him know, and he gave me a sympathetic look.

“She needs to be checked, too,” Lana reminded us all. “She just beat the shit out of an alpha to get Carter back, and she’s pregnant,” she added. I glared at her.

“What? It’s true,” she said unapologetically.

I suppose it didn’t matter anymore; there was no living a normal life and hiding what we were to each other, word would get out eventually. Clyde would realize the moment he got close to either of us.

The Dr eyed the gash peeking out from my too-big teeshirt and raised a brow.

“You have alpha blood?” he asked.

“Yeah, what about it?” I asked defensively.

“Well, for starters, you’re his mate, staying near him will help but an alpha mate’s blood…that can drastically reduce his recovery time.

“How?” I didn’t even think before I spoke, getting Carter to rights faster…I was all ears for that information, and if I could help. I was game for it.

“A transfusion, he’s lost a lot of blood, but yours it will help burn up the wolfsbane. I just need to be sure you are in fair enough condition to do so,” he said, motioning for me to lie down next to Carter.

I followed the direction, and Lana scooted beside me, holding my hand while Mazzie took her place, pulling a chair up next to the bed.

He gingerly pulled the neck of the shirt over my shoulder and surveyed the healing claw marks there.

“Healing nicely,” he murmured to himself. “Any other wounds?” he questioned.

“Her right thigh,” Lana offered for me. He simply bent over the thigh and sniffed.

“Nothing to be concerned about there, but you will want to air it out and clean it up,” he said, walking to the foot of the bed and getting a stethoscope out of his bag.

“Now let’s check on the babe,” he said, stepping beside me again.

“Its probably too early,” I tried to warn him. He just shook his head no.
