Her CEO Stalker and Her Second Chance Mate Chapter 87
Carter
Her footsteps were softer than usual as she wrapped her arms around me from behind and inhaled, her face pressed between my shoulder blades. She sighed.
“I got Chinese, I dunno if you like it, if you don’t, we can make something else,” I offered. She chuckled into my back.
“I’m sure it’s better than the rundown buffet joints I frequented in my college days,” she joked.
“Probably,” I answered, and wondered how much lamer I could sound. I tugged her around in front of me and looked down at her, but she just wrapped her arms back around me, and I folded her against me securely. This felt right. I hadn’t been sure what state Briar would be in when I got here. She missed me, apparently, and holding her felt good. I inhaled, and the sweet scent of wisteria faintly laced her normal scent. Good. She’d need her wolf’s strength in the weeks that followed. I would look at this as progress, even though it hadn’t come about in the way I had intended. I ran my fingers through her hair and gripped the back of her head gently, willing her eyes to find mine.
“I saw the press conference. How are you doing?”
She shrugged, eyes not leaving mine, “As good as can be expected, I guess, but I have a plan to keep him busy, I’m going to ruin him where it hurts the most.”
“Oh?” She grinned mischievously. Her wolf was already doing wonders for her, and I loved it.
“That’s my girl. You’ll have to tell me about it later,” I offered. She was constantly surprising me. She nodded, a very soft, smug smirk playing on her pretty lips. I couldn’t help but kiss her then, my hands wandering over the soft curves of hers as her fingers began unbuttoning my shirt. The sound of Lana getting up and letting Mazzie in didn’t fully register. Was she really doing this now? The scent of her arousal engulfed me like a tangible thing. So intoxicatingly sweet and musky. I wanted to take her right here, right now. Was this it? Would she regret it later? Or was this some sort of way to forget the day and nothing else?
A throat cleared. “At least let us get our dinner before you fuck her brains out on the counter,” Mazzie said, amusement in her eyes as I glanced up. Briar’s arms slipped around my waist, and I held her to me. She burrowed her face into my chest in embarrassment.
“Your timing is impeccable,” she said as she pulled away from me, but I yanked her back, pulling her back into my chest and wrapping my arms around her and kissing her cheek.
“I’ve walked in on worse, haven’t I, Maze?”
Mazzie made a noise in the back of her throat, “Fine, we are even.”
“Not even close, the last time I remember waking up at your place, before Briar, looking for a cup of coffee, you had Lana perched on the counter in a skimpy nighty and you were on your knees. Tell me, is Lana the only pillow princess in the relationship, or do you switch?” Mazzie’s eyes bugged out as Lana sauntered in, as if summoned. She ran her hand over Mazzie's shoulder and down her arm as she ignored the rest of us as she looked hungrily into Mazzie’s eyes. They may fool around once and a while with other people together but at the end of the day these two were madly devoted to each other. My intention was just to take the heat off Briar, who was now suppressing a fit of laughter.
“Don’t worry Mazzie, my love, I would never kiss and tell them how you…” Mazzie’s look of horror at what Lana might say set Lana into a fit of laughter. “I said I wouldn’t tell,” Lana pointed out. We all chuckled and rounded the kitchen island full of food.
“Pick your poison, " I told Briar as her eyes roved over the options. Not knowing what she would like, I’d bought several options and sides. She grabbed a carton of spicy general tso chicken and sniffed it, satisfied. She reached for a carton of fried rice and a spring roll. She dug around in the bag, finding a pair of chopsticks, and took a place on one of the stools. I grabbed the beef and broccoli and an eggroll and some fried rice, and joined her while Mazzie took some sweet and sour chicken, and Lana finally decided on a carton of lo mein. We sat and ate, laughing at each other's jokes, my knee pressed against Briar's with encouragement to eat. Briar was the only one using the provided chopsticks while the rest of us had forks. Lana tried to use a pair as she attempted to mimic Briar, but failed and went back to her fork.
An hour later, they left. We were properly stuffed and watching a fantasy movie on the TV.
“So, what’s this plan of yours?” I asked as she sipped some lemon-flavored water, as I held her tucked into my side.
“Well, I know all Creedon’s dirty little business secrets. For now, I’m going to ward off any potential new partnerships. I have all the contacts of all the contracts we were working on beforehand, so I will contact them all with the promise of evidence that Misty will slowly leak. It will be a PR nightmare. It should keep him busy for a while. The next step will be exposing all his dirty dealings with his current partners. This will take some digging into the individual contracts with each one on my part. I don't think he realizes I have the proof. So he won’t expect it’s me. Doubt he thinks I’d have the balls for it even if he did.”
There she went, surprising me again. “Now that’s clever,” I pointed out.
She just shrugged and sipped her water. “I’m not without my own expertise.”
This woman didn’t give herself enough credit.
