Her CEO Stalker and Her Second Chance Mate Chapter 65
Briar
I woke, tangled up in Carter, and he was asleep, the light from the window casting across his handsome face. I had dreamt of him in the most scandalous ways. He held me close to him, and sometime in the night, I shifted from being the little spoon to a double pretzel, facing him, with my cheek against my bare chest. I heard the clack of paws on the wood floor and rummaging around in the kitchen. Footsteps came from down the hall, instead of continuing, they stopped in front of the door.
The door burst open.
“Rise and shine!” My panic was only momentary as I looked over my shoulder to see Lana’s jubilant face scrunch up and fall. She inhaled and smirked and Carter threw the blanket over my ass before he threw a pillow at her which she dodged.
“As horny as it smells in here, I’m vastly disappointed. I expected to see ass and tits, and all I get is a couple of lousy cuddlers. Nice thong, by the way,” she complained. “Did he at least show you a good time?” she asked me, and was rewarded with another pillow that went flying; this one from me. It hit her square in the chest. She caught it and grinned. “You got me!”
“Mind your own business, have you ever heard of knocking?” Carter asked, pulling me back to him so my back hit his chest again after my assault of the pillow.
“Nah, it's my house; anything you do here has the possibility of me walking in on.
“You're worse than most men, Lana,” Carter accused, to which Lana bowed as she grinned and shut the door behind her. Carter exhaled.
Carter held me in place a few moments before he finally released me to drain the dragon. I fumbled out of bed and passed him to do the same as he came back into the room. After the much-needed release of our bladders, I showed up in my tweety bird sleep tee and Carter in a pair of pants and shirtless from the waist up. A warm mug was placed in my hands, and the hangover reminded me of all of my regrets; but did I really regret it? I suppose time would tell.
Carter picked up my hand and dropped some Advil in, and I tossed it back with a swig of my coffee. I eyed Mazzie and Lana, who were sitting at the table, their eyes watching us as they smirked.
“Don’t look so smug, it’s not like we didn’t fall asleep to your mewling,” I said, leaning against the counter next to Carter, who was doing the same. Lana about spit out her coffee, and Carter grinned at her. She looked at Carter as if to confirm, and Mazzie waited for his response.
“Yeah, I was trying to ignore it when Briar brought it up. Tell me, Lana, did Mazzie at least show you a good time?” Even Mazzie chuckled at that.
“Yes, yes, she did,” Lana insisted seriously, brandishing a piece of toast. She pointed the toast at Briar, “You play dirty, I like it. Carter, keep this one.” I pretended to be lost at the bottom of my coffee cup. Carter just chuckled in response and threw his arm over my shoulders.
“I dunno, we will see if she still likes me after training,” I eyed him. This didn’t sound like this training thing boded well for me.
“What training?” Lana asked. “Some BDSM shit or something? Cuz if so, I want front row seats.” Carter just rolled his eyes.
“She's got to build her endurance up so she can to learn to fight,” I sighed and found the bottom of my coffee.
“Oh,” Lana said. She and Mazzie gave each other a look and nodded somberly.
“Well, when he pisses you off, just come over. I’ll hide you and we will drink margaritas by the pond,” Lana grumbled.
“Too bad I know where the pond is,” Carter shot back. “Anyway, Briar wants to learn to ride so with every milestone, she gets a lesson.
“Well, I’ve heard he's a good ride, so that shouldn’t be hard.” Lana jabbed, and Carter threw a crumpled-up napkin at her. “Sorry, you set yourself up for that one,” she laughed, and Carter just shook his head.
“That reminds me, we need to go into town, you need proper sneakers,” he told me. I just shrugged and nodded. I washed my cup out and headed into the room to get dressed. When the door opened and closed, I expected it to be Carter.
“I like your friends,” I said, pulling a modified band tee over my bralette with my back to the door.
“Well, I’m glad, cuz I was just coming to say we should hang out sometime, minus the other halves, and don’t give me bullshit, you may not be official or an easily described situation, but he likes you enough to spend all this time with you, whether you're a friend— she glanced at the bed—” or something with other benefits; right now, you're each other's other half. Just how I see it. Sometimes, though, a girl needs a girlfriend, like a friend, friend, not a sexy friend. I talk a lot of promiscuous shit; it’s just to rile up Carter. I don’t get along with most of the girls around here, but you, we could get into some shit together.”
“Sure,” I said with a smile, as I rummaged around my bag for something decent to wear into town. Lana grabbed up my fishnets and skirt and tossed them at me.
“Just wear these, don’t worry about trying to impress people around here. The ones that are worth it will see you clearly; anyone else isn’t worth your time or effort.” I nodded. She was right, I sat on the bed pulling the fishnets on. “Not to mention, seeing you with Carter in that, is going to make that Miranda bitch’s blood boil and her ears steam. Serves her right.”
“She still has a hard on for him, doesn’t she?” I asked. Lana nodded her distaste, obvious on her expression.
“Serves her right. Carter is a good guy, the best really. That slut needs a reckoning.”
“Agreed,” I couldn’t argue with that.
Lana left me then, and once dressed, I fixed my hair in the bathroom and cleaned up the slept-in makeup a bit, ending up with a dark grunge look. It would work.
I found everyone on the front porch talking when I came out with my bag on my shoulder. Tucker wrapped around my legs, purring, and I picked him up and cuddled him to me. Carter gave me a strange look, like he was seeing me for the first time. Mazzie elbowed him, taking him out of his thoughts.
“Guess it’s time to go.”
“Yes, Baby Boy here needs his nourishment.” Lana and Mazzie chuckled, and we got into the truck. Lana came up to my door and handed me her phone, and I gave her my number. Carter watched us, and something about him eased. We waved goodbye and headed to his house to drop the animals off and feed them.
