Happpy Holidays everyone, I hope you are having a wonderful time with your family. For those that find the holidays hard sending you love. I’ve spent some time on these holiday chapters and thought it fitting to release them as they come in real time.

Christmas morning

I woke up to Cricket’s shrill voice. “Santa came!”

After tucking her in last night we all piled the wrapped gifts under the tree. I was groggy as Carter kissed up my neck. I opened my eyes and he peered down at me, equally haggard.

“Coffee,” I demanded. He grinned at me and I shucked off the covers and threw on a cropped tee that said. ‘I made the naughty list,’ and a pair of black leggings. I gathered the mess of my hair into a poney and we made our way downstairs. Cricket greeted me excitedly.

“Santa came! He found me even though we moved!”

“Of course he did,” I assured her. I turned to the kitchen. “And he left quite the mess,” I said, rolling my eyes pretending to be perturbed. Carrots with chunks taken out, and cookie crumbs everywhere and an ungodly amount of glitter. I’d regret that later. Right now the magic of Christmas bubbled out of Cricket and it was infectious, I was going to ride that high with her. This would be the last Christmas morning where she was the only kid who would have my attention. Carter started coffee as she dragged Misty and me to the couch where Beck grogily sat upon the afghan still in his lap.

“Ya know there’s this perfectly good bed upstairs,” I told him while he rubbed out a crick in his neck.

“I like to sleep near the door,” he grumbled sleepily. I wasn’t naive to the ratsnest of Misty’s hair or the scent Beck all over Misty. They had found the time and place at some point once everyone else went to bed to mess around. I was happy for them, I just hoped it was something that would stick. Something told me they both had an issue with commitment from their pasts, the age difference was new for Misty but Beck’s maturity would do her some good, not to mention cricket was clearly taken with him.

“Best get started on that stocking Lil Miss,” I said plopping down next to Misty who was between me and Beck. They shared a look and I averted my eyes, giving them privacy while I focused on Cricket. She dumped the stocking, finding a few dollar bills and endless amounts of candy. Misty gave me a sideways look that said I’d pay later for that. I chose to ignore it. Carter brought us all coffee and sat on the arm of the couch next to me. Tucker jumping up in my lap as Cricket dove under the tree. They had left behind a lot of stuff, things that were comforts within their home. I had made sure I replaced as much as I could in the gifts under the tree. Care bear sheets, framed photos of pictures I had downloaded since I could finally revive them now that Creedon was no longer a threat. As she came across gifts for others she passed them out. A joint tattoo session for Mazzie and Lana from Carter and me, new gloves for Beck, her missing rainbow bright for her my little pony collection Misty had said she didn’t have the heart to leave behind. I watched as Cricket handed Misty the card. Carter gripped my hand in support. She opened it and a key with a multi charging accessory as a keychain fell into her lap. She scowled then looked at what was written in the card.

It is my greatest gift to have you for my friend, and allowing me the honor of being in you and Cricket’s life. Please accept the keys to the place my Uncle Jake gave me, you are someone I hold dear and I would love to have you close so that we can share the next chapters of our lives together as they unfold.

Love always,

Your Bestie

Her jaw dropped, and she looked at me.

“I can’t…” she stammered.

“You can and you will, you left your entire life to help me, I don’t need the place anymore. I have my home here.” I said. “It will be my greatest gift that we live close and can be a part of each other’s lives for many years to come.” I let her know. “I have everything ready for you to sign. We cleaned it up after…and made some improvements the last few weeks that’s why I put the cameras off line. If you outgrow or want a place of your own one day I’ll buy it back from you but right now it will give you a place to grow from.” I insisted.

“Its too much,” she insisted

“It's not enough,” I countered. I saw the struggle in her features. She was too proud.

“Stop it, Misty. Nobody else is going to use it, I want you close. I want our little haphazard family to flourish; it's ready to move in today,” I let her know. Her eyes strayed to Becks.

He whispered in her ear. “Sometimes you need to take what’s offered and swallow your pride,” I pretended, along with the rest of the wolves, not to hear that as she nodded.

“Thank you, but I can’t…”

“Shut up, Misty,  you need a place of your own, we wouldn’t be here right now if it wasn’t for you. Don’t have to keep it, but it’s a stepping stone as long as you want it,” I insisted.

She sighed and nodded. I saw Lana snuggle into Mazzie across the room. The three of us and Carter had busted our asses the last few weeks to turn the place to rights and fix it up properly. I could at least provide her with this after everything she had sacrificed.
