Her CEO Stalker and Her Second Chance Mate Chapter 143
Mazzie
Creedon’s minions had left a mess in their wake. Carter was pacing in front of Jake’s place, his fur threatening to sprout. I had never seen him so unhinged. My phone pinned and it was Lana sending the group chat a selfie of her and Briar in a coffee shop. There was something different about Brair. When Carter looked at his phone he stopped dead in his tracks. I watched his fingers trace her features as Lana pingged again.
Lana: is it safe to come home
Carter: Keep her away from here
Lana: She wants to come home Carter, I can’t hold her hostage
Carter: Whatever you need to convince her she’s safer away from here
Lana: Didn’t they leave?
Mazzie: They found Jakes place Lana it’s not good
Lana: I’ll try to deter her, but she really wants to go home and I’m not going to force her to stay you know I can’t she’s a badass
Mazzie: Do your best Lana, thats all we ask
Carter was looking at the picture again. He seemed to settle a bit, realizing she was ok.
“Are you ready to go inside?” I asked him, concerned for his mental state. The outside was bad enough. He closed his eyes and nodded before walking past the carnage on the porch. His eyes immediately glanced beside the door where ole Betty usually sat. It was missing. My eyes left his and my heart sank. Claws had ripped open the cushions, the stuffing was everywhere, the old TV smashed into the floor, Carter’s snarl brought me out of my shock. I could feel his anger wash over me with his aura. I glanced to the kitchen where food and dishes were thrown across the floor covered in broken glass and ceramic. The pictures had been ripped off the walls as we made way down the hall, glass crunching beneath our boots. The smell hit me before I even entered her room. Everything was upturned, clothes and blankets shredded along with pillows. The sheets were thrown back on the bed and long slash marks cut into the surface. I tensed, Carter was about to blow into a fury I didn't think he was capable of. It was a rage I understood as I turned to face him.
His face was a storm of rage, his features morphing somewhere between wolf and human, the low growl the only warning he was sinking into his primal side.
“Carter? Let's get you outside NOW!” I insisted. He didn’t acknowledge me, his eyes focused on the bed.
“She’s ok,” I tried to soothe, grabbing my phone and bringing up the picture and forcing it into his face. That got his attention, his eyes zeroing in on her face.
I prodded him to move gently, his features slightly morphing back to the man as I guided him out the door. He was transfixed by the image of her and I thanked the goddess as he took the phone from my hand. Unseeing, his attention devoured by the image of his mate. I pulled him through the wreckage and out the door and past the carnage on the porch.
“We are going to make them pay for this,” I promised. His eyes met mine and his upper lip twitched up in a snarl. His silver blue eyes looked over the phone to meet mine.
A chill went through me, and I realized nobody would be paying for this; they would simply die a horrific death.
Briar
Lana and I were sitting at a table in the coffee shop I wish I could live in. It was quaint but edgy, the staff was pleasant, and that atmosphere was dark and mysterious; totally my vibe. But the coffee, that was to die for, had been the first thing I had enjoyed tasting in over a week and a half. I sipped the caramel latte from the cute ceramic cup with the heart-shaped foam. Maybe it wasn’t the place, but how I woke up more in line with what was to come, with who I was . It was a far cry from the broken woman I had been 24 hours ago. It's surprising what can change in your mindset when your world gets turned upside down. A peace ran through my soul over the decision. When we got back, Carter and I were going to set things to rights, or I would leave. The decision was mine. I didn’t want to be anywhere we weren’t wanted. I also somehow felt less drained. A part of me wanted to hit something hard, Lana had said that was Carter’s bond pressing on me. She tried to get me to go shopping again and I became suspicious.
“It’s time to go home I need to talk to Carter.” Lana nodded then, before glancing at her phone and pocketing it. Something was very wrong,
The first 20 minutes of the drive the only sound was the radio but the closer we got the more agitated I became.
“Drive faster,” I urged Lana and her foot landed heavily on the gas. I NEEDED to get to Carter.
Lana flew around the cures of the mountains at a reckless speed. I felt deep within myself centering around that otherness. Lana tore off the pavement onto the driveway, dust kicking up around the small car as she went, ignoring pot holes, which caused the vehicle to kick up dust in our wake. She slammed on the brakes coming to a halt in front of the house, Carter’s face was in his hands…no they were claws. I jumped out of the car before it came to a full stop, I barely registered Lana doing the same. My focus was on Carter, blood trailed down his face as his stormy gaze looked up focusing on me. His eyes jumped to Lana and he growled.
“I told you to keep her away!” he snarled and as Lana shrunk back I stepped in front of her as he moved forward. A rush went through me as my hand met his chest, and he stumbled back.
“Enough!” I growled, his body faltered and his eyes met mine. We stared off for an impossibly long moment before he relaxed, the angles of his face unsharpening as he took me in. I didn’t look away, rooting myself where I stood, unmoving. It seemed like an eternity before his eyes cast down.
“Shit,” one of the two women said, a quick glance showed Mazzie protectively sheltering a cowering Lana to her side. A look back to Carter showed he was taking cleansing breaths to come back to normal and the other presensce within me relaxed which allowed me the ability to take in my surroundings. The front of the house and the porch were covered in red spatterings, lifeless forms of what was left of the small woodland animals that had created it dotted the porch floor. My heart sank, Carter went to step towards me but I kept my hand up to keep him back and he lowered his head in resignation. My jaw fell slack as emotions bubbled up.
He has found me. I needed to get away now. Not away from them but away from here. I turned and snatched my bag out of Lana’s car and beelined for my bike. All three forms rushed forward, but Carter jumped straight into his truck as I peeled out of the yard and gunned it down the drive. What was I doing? That otherness settled over me and the urge to run was met by a different feeling, a feeling that yearned for home, so I went there.
