I was going to be a father! I wanted to shout it from the rooftops, go into town and tell everyone I knew! I was so elated the full force of all the implications hadn’t hit me. I knew they were coming but I wouldn’t let any of that dim my shine about my mate being pregnant.

When I set her down and looked at her as I cupped her face.

“I’ve missed you,” I said wiping the tears from her cheeks,”

“I missed you too, so damn much, but no more secrets, I can’t handle any more hidden truths or lies, you tell me today anything that could come up and we talk it out. There’s so much I don’t know about this world, I need to know everything. How Clyde works, what Jake was up to before he died. How these bonds work. Creedon could be here tomorrow for all we know. We are out of time.” I told him.

“I’ll tell you everything and anything you want to know, I’m so fucking sorry I was such an idiot to have not told you sooner. You are everything to me, you’ve been everything to me since the moment you rolled out from under that old truck. The second our eyes met you were it for me. I want you to know the only lie about us was what I am and what brought you to me that day. Every moment with you was real. I love you so fucking much, a life without you isn’t worth living and this.” I said, placing one hand over her lower stomach. “I will protect you and this baby with my life. Whatever we decide to do, stay or run we do it all together. You and I, nobody is coming between us, not Creedon, not Clyde, and most of all I don’t ever want you to doubt me ever again, I will spend the rest of my life ensuring that never happens.” I promised. She nodded looking up at me and gave me a smile.

“My heart never doubted you Carter, but my mind, it’s still fucked up, I couldn’t help the spiral of thoughts. I let it get in the way of seeing clearly. There was too much I didn’t know, nothing made sense, I should have let you talk to me then. We both made mistakes but I can’t deny where my heart belongs.” she said, grinning at me.

I wanted to kiss her but I wanted to be sure she wasn’t still holding me at arms length. “I’m going to lose my shit if I don’t kiss you right now,” I said honestly.

She responded by getting up on her tiptoes as she wrapped her arms around my neck and pulled my face to hers. Our mouths met and hungrily she dove her tongue into my mouth and I reciprocated in a desperate display of passion. Goddess I missed this, her scent, the feel of her body and how it fit just right against mine. I was lost in her when a loud whistle alerted me we were not alone.

“Thank fuck,” Mazzie said with relief as she and Lana strolled down the yard to where we stood. “This guy has been unbearable,” she groaned, looking at Briar and pointing her thumb in my direction. 

Lana caught Briar’s gaze. “He knows?” Briar nodded.

“Knows what?” Mazzie asked.

“Can I tell her? Please, Please!” Lana asked, jumping up and down.

Briar laughed and nodded.

“We're going to be aunties!” Lana yelled excitedly.
