Her CEO Stalker and Her Second Chance Mate Chapter 77

Briar

As the sounds of Miranda’s crew disappeared, I was lost in Carter’s kiss. He was kissing me like a depraved man. His hands gripped me tightly, holding me flush to his body with one arm wrapped around my back and gripping my hip, the other tangled in my hair, gripping the back of my head, as he controlled the angle of his passionate attack.

A chuckle came from nearby and we both looked at its owner, Amber, who was grinning at us as all the girls stood watching.

Lana whacked her. “You distracted them. I wanted to see if he was going to bend her over his bike and have his way with her!” That made everyone laugh. Carter’s arms wrapped around me, tightly holding me to him. So I wrapped mine around him, too. It felt nice. Why was I so hell bent this afternoon to push him away?

“Well, the poor girl needed air anyway,” Amber said, with a shrug.

“Bout time somebody put that cunt in her lane,” Chleo said, smiling. Everyone nodded in agreement, and I just shrugged it off.

Mazzie eyed Carter and me and just nodded in approval.

“Here,” she said, reaching into her jacket pocket and producing a lavender handkerchief. “I think you're one of us now. I looked around at the girls, realizing they each wore one in one form or fashion, tying back their hair or around their arms or neck. She handed it to me, and Carter let me go. I glanced at him in question, and he just nodded to the offered gift, so I took it.

“Thanks,” something told me it meant something deeper than I could guess, so I folded it and tied it around my head in a headband. Lana was bouncing with excitement, the others smiled in approval.

“So are we going to ride or what?” I asked, as Carter stole one of my hands, interlacing our fingers.

Amber eyed the gesture. “Seems you weren’t just playing a part,” she teased. Carter eyed me out of the corner of his eye. I just shrugged unapologetically, in response.

“Well, it’s about time Carter found someone decent,” Amber murmured, before walking over to her bike. The other girls followed suit, and Carter tugged me back over to his bike. Lana hopped on behind Mazzie, and I did the same with Carter. The sun was down, and the stars were just beginning to twinkle in the sky. All engines revved, and one by one, each bike exited the lot and took off down the road. When we left behind the main part of town, the depth of the sky opened up, and more twinkling lights adorned the expanse of the sky. Chleo passed us with a shout, and the others answered. I smiled into Carter's back and let myself feel the wind whipping around me as I watched the scenery. I had lost track of time as we wound around mountain roads, and when the moon was high in the sky, Lana stood up behind Mazzie on the bike and howled, bracing herself on Mazzie’s shoulders. The others joined, and so did Carter. They all glanced over at me expectantly. This was crazy, but it felt right, down in my gut, it was a song I wanted to join. Jake had always said to listen to that. So I shifted to stand behind Carter, my hands braced on his shoulders, and let the presence deep inside me bubble up as it yearned to let out its voice, and I released a long, woeful note into the summer night. They all joined me.

A few hours later, it was late, and we were stopped at a light in town on our way to pick up my truck from the shop. He wanted to leave his bike there so we could ride to lunch together and he could start teaching me more about riding. I was in a giddy mood, something I didn’t expect to feel ever again. I wanted the night to never end. I was high on life, and I was still chasing that feeling. Maybe I should invite Carter to stay over? I had come close to suggesting it when the light changed. I let that be fate's sign that this wasn't the day, I should leave a good day just as that and not be greedy for more. I dropped him off at his place and I grabbed his arm to stop him before he got out.

“Thanks for listening to me today and not judging me for my messed up head right now,”

“Briar…” he started, but I cut him off.

“And for everything else, I’ll pay you back for the tattoo,”

“No, you won’t.”

I rolled my eyes and gripped his jacket, yanking him to me. This time, it was me kissing him. Once he had recovered from his surprise, he fell into the kiss, his hands roving over my body as our tongues tangled together, we came up for air, panting. Please just ask me to stay, or to fuck me right now, because I don’t think I can say no in this instance, tomorrow my courage would be gone. My mind swirled the thoughts through my head, my eyes searching his for a cue. He gave me a chaste kiss, his thumb brushing across my bottom lip. So, not tonight. Something inside me deflated

“I’ll see you tomorrow, Briar.” I bit my lip and nodded. I watched him disappear into the house before I pulled away and set off down the long driveway and headed home.

When I got there, the light wasn’t on; maybe I had forgotten to flip it on since I had intended to be home earlier. I threw my bag over my shoulder, grabbed my dying phone, and flipped on the flashlight keys in hand. I stopped dead in my tracks, my heart dropping. No, no, no, no, no!
