Her CEO Stalker and Her Second Chance Mate Chapter 189
Misty
That’s when the two women from the living room walked in from the gaggle of kids in the living room. The buxom brunette looked frazzled.
“It’s your turn, Alpha. I tap out,” she said.
Carter chuckled. “Auntie training is hard, huh?” he teased her.
The small blonde with rainbow highlights grinned. “I’m passing with flying colors, but yeah, Carter, it’s your turn; we girls have things to do,” she insisted.
Briar looked to Beck, “Do you mind helping with the snacks and kiddos while we get the hot chocolate going? Lil Miss here is staying with us, so you just have to watch the movie and hand out food.”
Beck eyed her for a moment and nodded.
“Who wants popcorn!” Carter yelled, and the kids came streaming in.
Carter filled bowls with popcorn for them while Beck fell into handing out cookies. The kids filed out to take their spots in the living room, leaving us girls alone. Briar pulled out a huge pot, baby still on her hip, and set it on the stove. Mazzie got the milk out, and Lana got the cocoa powder and sugar, as she asked for it, and turned on the stove. She passed the baby to Lana, who struck up a conversation with the babe I couldn’t follow.
“Lana, Mazzie, this is Misty, my bestie and the woman behind the keyboard; we wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for her,” she told them, and all my anxiety over wondering if I still meant anything to her fell away.
“Stop Ads, you’ve done so much for me, there is no way I wouldn’t return the favor, the best I could,” I tried to minimize the attention she put on me.
“Shut up, Misty, and take some credit for once,” she insisted.
I narrowed my eyes at her and swore at her in Spanish. She chuckled.
“Oh, that’s hot,” the small blonde said. “Can we take her home?” she asked Mazzie.
“She’s fucking the guy she came here with, can’t you use your nose and read the room? Give it a break, Lana,” she said, rolling her eyes.
I choked on my spit. Briar patted my back before she started adding ingredients to the milk she had poured and heated, giving me a you have tea to spill look.
“Can’t hide shit from wolves, Misty, damn fucking noses can’t help being in everyones business,” Briar said, giving Lana a look.
“What’s the harm in trying?” Lana said unbothered.
“No harm no foul,” I decided to ease the tension, just realizing as Mazzie hooked her arm around Lana and pulled her tight against her that they were a couple.
Briar was ladling the hot chocolate into mugs when the doorbell rang. She stilled, moved the pot off the burner, and rushed out. We followed her as Carter answered the door
“What are you doing here?” He asked the woman at the door.
Three kids rushed him, he crouched to greet them, and I stilled the scenarios of who this could be running wild in my head.
“Is that his ex?” I whispered to Lana and Mazzie.
“Sister,” Mazzie said quietly. Relief flooded me.
“I invited her to include the kids tonight,” Briar said, from a few steps behind him, her eyes darting to the woman in the doorway. The movie played on all the kids oblivious but Beck watched from his place on the couch, always the observant protector.
“There is a lot I need to apologize for…” the woman started.
“Not tonight,” Briar said, the woman nodded…obediantly. Lana stilled next to me before rushing upstairs and running back down with three packages. She ran down the stairs and passed them to Briar as the woman took her leave, quietly, subdued.
She crouched down to the kid’s level.
“Hey guys, I’m Brair, how about we get you all set up and you open these for me. Then we will get you settled with the others. Mazzie exhaled. I followed her and Lana back to the kitchen.
“What was that all about?" I asked, hushed.
“Carter’s sister tried to get Briar to back off Carter, Clyde told her to do it, she didn’t know they were mates. There’s more to it but her bringing the kids here is like a peace offering of sorts.” Mazzie explained. “He hasn’t seen his niece and nephews since Briar arrived,” Mazzie explained, her voice barely audible.
Briar and Carter had disappeared down the hall with the three kids and Mazzie pulled together three bowls of popcorn and cookies. I felt out of place, not knowing what to do, then I remembered the hot chocolate and rushed to continue what Briar was doing before the doorbell rang. Carter and Brair returned pausing in the space between the kitchen and the living room as the kids joined the others with their snacks as we handed out the hot chocolate just in time for the hot coco scene.
“Thank you,” I heard him murmur.
Briar just put her finger to his lips and shook her head. Then he gripped the back of her neck and kissed her deeply, and possessively. Watching her melt into that was different then seeing it on video. Seeing it in real time had me gawking in the sheer understanding of how deeply the pair had fallen into each other suddenly hit me. What they had I couldn’t put into words. I had seen the progression and the sexual tension for weeks. This was so much more than I could have imagined for my friend. Their mouths parted, and he kissed her forehead. They looked into each other’s eyes, speaking volumes to each other.
“They are a different kind of intense,” Lana whispered in my ear as she turned back to the kitchen. I had to agree.
After 1 am, all the kids had been collected as they fell asleep to classic Christmas movies. Beck scooped up Cricket from his lap, and Briar yawned, leaning into Carter.
“You can take the bedroom down here or the one upstairs, Beck. You can sleep wherever you are comfortable. His grey eyes found mine. It was a hard decision, but in the end, I chose downstairs next to Lana and Mazzie instead of upstairs. I was being selfish; it would be easier to sneak off for a rendezvous.
