“Once a wolf is dead, they are dead; however, it takes a lot more to get them down. They heal incredibly fast, especially alphas, and like all of us, their threshold for pain is very high. They can’t regrow an arm or anything, but shooting them in the head or the heart should do the trick,” Lana informed me.

Mazzie looked me over. “There is something else you need to consider,” she said, crossing her arms under her chest.

“You challenge an alpha and win, you're going to need witnesses, or the other pack members will call folly, and the council will get involved. Not to mention guns may get you in there, but you can't use them to challenge him and even if you shift, your wolf is untested. He can shift on you, and that will be a disadvantage to you. He’s bigger, stronger, and he's going to be pissed, territorial and pissessive. Once he realizes you mated there's no telling how unhinged he can get.”

“I’m counting on him being pissed. People who fight with their emotions make mistakes, mistakes can cost you your life,” I countered. “What I’m counting on is him underestimating me, he sees me as a weak human, if he has been talking to Clyde he probably knows that he's my father, he might even know I never shifted. I can feel her prowling under my skin, I’ve almost shifted twice; the third time is the charm, so they say. So if all goes to hell, I’m counting on her coming through for me.”

“I don’t like this,” Lana protested. “But I also don’t like leaving Carter there, this shit is the fucking pits, your fucking pregnant, Briar! What about the baby?”

“I have a right to protect my family, Lana. Carter is a part of that. Without him, this child has no father, without him, I might not make it through this pregnancy. Creedon will keep hunting me down no matter how far I run, and he’s left a trail of death in his wake.”

My phone rang again,  it was Misty. I answered, turning it on speaker.

“I just checked the cameras on your house. Carter didn’t go down without a fight, but he had 5 cars with a few dozen men, they are heavily armed. Carter took down at least half a dozen. Most of them kill shots,” she informed me. That was a lot of guys to go through.

“Is he still moving?”

“Yes, we are stopping so I don’t loose connection. I’ll keep an eye on his location and see if there is anything I can access when they stop.”

“Thank you Misty,” I swallowed I hadn’t told her yet. “I gotta tell you something, I don’t know whats going to happen with all of this but I’m pregnant, Carter isn’t just a man to me, he's my whole lifeline.”

“Shit Ads,” she swore before Beck’s voice came over the phone.

“You need back up, sweetheart?” he asked.

It was tempting but I wanted him with Misty. He could keep her and Cricket safe if this all went wrong and he found out who had been behind all the chaos over the last few months.

“No Beck, I need you to stay with Misty, but promise me something,”

“Of course.”

“You protect them, no matter what happens, no matter what needs to be done. If I’m gone, empty my bank accounts and run.”

“You better not let it come to that, Little lady,” he growled.

“I don’t plan on it. What I do plan on is giving this son of a bitch back to his mother fucking maker,” I snarled. 

“That's our girl, now you keep your head about you and go get your man,” Beck said, his tone making me feel solid about this decision

“I’ll send you directions to follow, and see if there are any shortcuts. Hang tight,” Misty said before hanging up.
