The Alpha King moved fast. The morning after the disastrous event, he called for an emergency council meeting to discuss Kael’s candidacy. Dad and I got ready early, the weight of the situation heavy on our shoulders. I didn’t know what game the royal family was playing, but I knew I had to be there in case my father needed me.

As we walked into the council room, the whispers began almost immediately. The room was filled with alphas and lunas, their expressions a mix of curiosity and apprehension. The tension was palpable, the air thick with unspoken questions.

The Alpha King and Luna Cassandra arrived shortly after, their presence commanding the room. Kael was noticeably absent, and that made me uneasy. Something was wrong. Something didn’t sit right.

“Thank you all for gathering here on such short notice,” the Alpha King began, his voice calm but firm. “We are here today to discuss Kael Reventhorn’s candidacy for the upcoming Alpha King election.”

The room fell silent, all eyes on the Alpha King. “Based on recent events, Kael has lost control in front of the crowd under multiple circumstances. He lacks the qualities a leader should have. Hence, I am calling for a vote. Whoever is still in favor of Kael’s candidacy, please raise your hands.”

The hallbecame dead silent. And, guess what? No one raised their hands. Kael had lost the support of the council, and it was clear why. His behavior at the event had been unacceptable, and Alaric’s dominance had only highlighted his weakness. Once you rise to the throne, you will be bestowed with power that makes the Wolf stronger than other alphas. But Alaric’s wolf was a natural. He didn't need the crown, whereas Kael crumbled down before everyone.

“Now, whoever is against Kael, please raise your hands,” the Alpha King said, his voice steady.

Every single alpha and luna in the room raised their hands, their expressions resolute. Luna Cassandra sat stiffly in her seat, her face a mask of anger and frustration.

“Well, the matter is settled then,” the Alpha King said, his tone final.

But before he could adjourn the meeting, the doors burst open. A man rushed in, his face pale as he whispered something in the Alpha King’s ear. Darius’s expression darkened, and he nodded.

“Turn it on,” he said, his voice sharp.

The man hurried to the television in the corner of the room and turned it on. The screen flickered to life, and Kael’s face appeared. He was sitting in a studio, his expression somber as he spoke to a reporter.

“What do you have to tell us about the incident last night?” the reporter asked, her tone sympathetic.

Kael sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I know my behavior was inappropriate, but since it has come to this, maybe it’s time I come clean. I found my mate, Coco, on the night of my engagement with Lilac. I admit that I was wrong to leave her alone, but she was my soulmate, and I couldn’t control my wolf.”

The room erupted in murmurs, but Kael continued, his voice steady. “It didn’t end there. My father never approved of her being an omega. He looked down on her and forced me to leave my mate, to reject her, and to reconcile with Lilac. I couldn’t do it. Then he kept Coco as a hostage, so I was forced to act. I apologize, Lilac. I should have never pulled you into this mess. We grew up together, and we have a lot of history, apart from our relationship. What I did was wrong as a friend as well.”

The room was silent, the weight of Kael’s words sinking in. But he wasn’t done. “It wasn’t the end of all. Coco was kidnapped. I still don’t know how that happened. Then she showed up at Alpha Asher’s pack. I was asked to keep quiet, as it was only the beginning. I was set up again— my naked photos went viral. I was forced to deny my connection with Coco to protect her. My alpha instincts, you could say. And finally, last night, I discovered who was behind all these schemes.”

The reporter leaned forward, her eyes wide. “Who was it?”

“Alaric,” Kael said, his voice firm. “He was standing in the shadows all this time, trying to destroy my name. He used our father’s influence to get away with it. Coco was captured by that monster, tortured as well. She’s so terrified that she can’t even stand before me without shivering.”

My heart sank. No, this couldn’t be true. Alaric would never torture anyone. And that wasn’t all— Kael was accusing the Alpha King himself.

“Kael, this is a big accusation,” the reporter said, her tone cautious.

“I have proof,” Kael said, his voice steady. “I’ve already sent it out. Coco’s back is still covered with bruises from the torture. I’m not afraid anymore. I can’t live under a tyrant. I had to take my destiny into my own hands. My mother never wanted me to stand in the election. She always wanted me to live away from this politics, and I’ll listen to her this time. I tried my best to hold myself up in my parents’ eyes, but no matter what I did, I was always less. I don’t care if I don’t get to be the next Alpha King. All I care about now is Coco and I having a good life.”

The screen cut to a video of Coco, her back covered in bruises, her eyes filled with tears. The room was silent, the weight of Kael’s words sinking in.

"It seems like we all have misunderstood you. Do you have anything else to say?" the reporter asked.

"Yes only one thing. I know the last few months was a mess and I hurt a very dear friend of mine. Lilac, if you are watching, I am really sorry for all the pain I have caused you and to your family. And to make it up to you, to show how sincere I am, I am stepping down from the election." Kael said.

“Bastard,” the Alpha King growled, slamming his fist on the table.

I glanced at Cassandra, who sat with a small smirk on her lips. Did she know about this? Kael had played his cards well— too well. Now, it would be nearly impossible to remove him from the race. In fact, he might even win because of this little scheme.

The whispers in the room grew louder, the tension thick. There was no point in continuing the meeting. Kael had won this round, and Alaric was the one in trouble.
