His Abandoned Luna Chapter 76
|| Lilac's POV ||
Alexander led me to a small room at the end of the corridor, its door carved with intricate patterns. He opened it, revealing a cozy space filled with plush furniture and soft lighting.
“Here,” he said, his voice gentle as he handed me a dress. “This should fit you. You can change in here.”
I took the dress, my fingers brushing against the soft fabric. It was simple but elegant, the deep blue color complimenting my skin.
“Thank you,” I said, my voice sincere. “You didn’t have to do this.”
Alexander shrugged, a small smile playing on his lips. “Consider it a gesture of goodwill. Besides, I couldn’t let you wander around smelling like a bar.”
I chuckled, the sound light and genuine. “Fair point.”
He hesitated for a moment, his expression turning serious. “Lilac, can I ask you something?”
I nodded, my curiosity piqued. “Of course.”
“Are you okay?” he asked, his eyes searching mine. “I mean, I saw what happened. You were staring at Kael when you bumped into the omega.”
I sighed, my shoulders slumping as the weight of everything came crashing down.
“I’m okay,” I said, my voice soft. “It’s just… complicated.”
Alexander nodded, his expression thoughtful. “If there’s anything I can do to help, just say the word.”
I looked at him, gratitude swelling in my chest. “Thank you, Alexander. That means a lot.”
He smiled, his eyes warm. “Go and change. I’ll wait outside.”
After changing into the dress Alexander had provided, I stepped out of the room to find him leaning casually against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest. His sharp features were softened by the dim light of the corridor, and his blue eyes lit up as they landed on me. He straightened, his gaze sweeping over me with an appreciative smile.
“You look beautiful,” he said, his voice sincere and warm, sending a faint blush to my cheeks.
“Thank you,” I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. The dress was simple but elegant, the deep blue fabric hugging my frame perfectly. It was a stark contrast to the cocktail-soaked gown I had been wearing moments ago, and I felt a small surge of gratitude toward Alexander for his thoughtfulness.
We began walking back toward the ballroom, the silence between us comfortable but charged with unspoken words. The corridor was quiet, the distant hum of the party fading into the background. My mind was still racing, the weight of everything pressing down on me. But Alexander’s presence was grounding, his calm demeanor a balm to my frayed nerves.
Finally, he broke the silence. “Lilac, I know this might not be the best time, but I need to ask you something.”
I looked at him, my heart skipping a beat. His tone was serious, his expression thoughtful.
“What is it?” I asked, my voice steady despite the flutter in my chest.
He stopped walking, turning to face me fully.
“I know this might not be the best time to ask,” he began, his voice careful, “but since we’re alone, I thought we might have this conversation here and now before we go back to the party.”
I held his gaze, my stomach tightening. I had a feeling I knew where this was going, and I obviously wasn't gonna accept his proposal. I needed his support too, so I had to make sure I didn't offend him anyway. Taking a deep breath, I started.
“Alexander,” I said softly, cutting him off before he could continue. “I’ve decided I will look for my fated mate. After everything with Kael, I don’t think I can trust again easily. I’ve heard soulmates are different— the bond works in a way that’s pure and unbreakable. I want to feel that magic, that blessing in my life.”
I looked up at the moon, its silvery light filtering through the tall windows of the corridor. It was breathtaking, a reminder of the Moon Goddess’s power and the destiny she wove for us all. For a moment, I let myself imagine what it would be like to find my mate, to feel that undeniable pull, that connection that transcended everything else. Somehow in between my thoughts, Alaric’s face flashed on the back of my head. Why couldn’t I keep him out of my head? Not even for a second!
Alexander sighed, his shoulders relaxing as if he had been holding his breath.
“I understand,” he said, his voice tinged with resignation. “And I respect it. But what if your mate has already taken a chosen mate? Or what if you can’t find him at all? What then?”
I turned to him, my eyes meeting his. There was worry in his gaze, a tension that hadn’t been there before.
“I’ll keep looking,” I said firmly, a small smile playing on my lips. “Until I find him.”
He nodded, though his expression remained thoughtful.
“Alright, if you say so,” he said, another sigh escaping him. “I just hope you find what you’re looking for.”
“I’m sure you’ll find the one meant for you as well, Alexander,” I said, my voice warm with encouragement. “And it’ll happen sooner than you think. Just keep faith in the Goddess.”
He smiled at that, a genuine smile tat reached his eyes. “Thank you, Lilac. I’ll try.”
