|| Lilac's POV ||

I woke up with a light headache, the kind that lingers after a night of too much wine and too many emotions. The memories of last night came rushing back in vivid flashes— Kael’s desperate attempt to frame me, Coco’s venomous glare, Alexander’s calm presence, Madeline’s quiet strength, and Alaric… Alaric and our night together. My lips curved into a small, involuntary smile as I recalled the heat of his touch, the way his voice had growled low in my ear, claiming me as his. For a moment, I let myself bask in the memory, the warmth of his body against mine, the way he had looked at me like I was the only thing that mattered in the world.

But the smile faded as quickly as it had come. Reality crashed down on me like a tidal wave. If Alexander became the Alpha King, I might have a little more time— time to figure things out, time to breathe, time to spend with Alaric. But who was I fooling? The Moon Goddess’s words echoed in my mind, sharp and unyielding: “Find your mate, or everyone you love will die.” The weight of those words pressed heavily on my chest, a constant reminder that my happiness was not mine to keep.

I sighed, running a hand through my tangled hair. The morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow over the room. It was a beautiful day, but it felt like the calm before the storm. I could almost hear the distant rumble of thunder, a warning of the chaos that was coming.

My phone buzzed on the nightstand, pulling me from my thoughts. Astrid’s name flashed on the screen. I hesitated for a moment before answering, bracing myself for whatever news she had.

“Hey,” I said, my voice still rough with sleep.

“Good morning. Are you okay?” Astrid’s voice was laced with concern, and I could hear the tension in her tone even through the phone.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” I replied, though the words felt hollow. “What’s going on?”

Astrid let out a long breath, as if she’d been holding it in. “A lot happened last night after you left. Coco showed up at Silver Moon’s territory, asking for asylum. Can you believe it? Kael’s claiming he has nothing to do with her anymore, that he’s only devoted to you. And on top of that, he’s denying that he forced himself on that omega. He’s saying he was drunk and she took advantage of him. Alpha Asher is furious.”

I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms. “So he’s trying to push the blame onto her,” I said, my voice tight with anger. “Typical Kael.”

“Exactly,” Astrid agreed. “But if he keeps this up, it could turn ugly for you too. People are still on your side, but Kael’s got a way of twisting things. We need to make a statement to the media before he does.”

I frowned, pacing the room as I thought it over. “You’re right, but if we just go to the media to talk about Kael, it might not look good. We need to be strategic about this.”

“Agreed,” Astrid said. “That’s why I was thinking we could announce Alexander’s candidacy for the Alpha King election. The reporters will ask about Kael, and we can address it then.”

I paused, considering her plan. “That could work, but Alexander needs five alphas to recommend him first. Otherwise, he can’t even stand for the election.”

Astrid groaned. “I didn’t think of that.”

“Besides,” I added, “if we spread the news before he gets the ticket, it could backfire. The Luna Queen and the Alpha King might come up with a plan to stop us. We need to make sure we have at least five alphas backing him up first.”

“True,” Astrid said. “My dad and Alpha Asher are already on board, so we need three more. And there’s another way. Silver Moon doesn’t usually get involved in other packs’ matters, but Moonvale does. We have allies. We could throw a party to celebrate the reunion of Silver Moon and Moonvale. It’s the perfect cover— no one will suspect anything, and we’ll have a chance to sway a few alphas to our side.”

I nodded, even though she couldn’t see me. “That’s a good plan. Let’s do it.”

“I’ll arrange it as soon as possible,” Astrid said, her voice brightening. “And don’t worry, my dad will handle most of it.”

“Thanks, Astrid,” I said, feeling a small flicker of hope. “I mean it.”

“Don’t thank me yet,” she replied with a laugh. “We’ve still got a long way to go.”

After hanging up, I took a deep breath and headed downstairs. The familiar scent of breakfast wafted through the air, and the sound of my parents’ voices brought a sense of calm. The dining room was bathed in sunlight, and the sight of my family sitting at the table filled me with a bittersweet warmth. This was what I was fighting for— this peace, this love.

“Good morning, sweetheart,” my mother said, smiling as I walked in. “How are you feeling?”

“I’m okay,” I said, taking a seat beside her. “Just a little tired.”

My father looked up from his newspaper, his sharp eyes studying me. “You’ve been through a lot lately. Don’t push yourself too hard.”

I nodded, picking at the food on my plate. “Actually, I need to talk to you both about something. Astrid and I were thinking of throwing a party to celebrate the reunion of Silver Moon and Moonvale. It’s a good opportunity to strengthen our alliances, and… well, we might be able to get some support for Alexander’s candidacy.”

Mom's eyebrows shot up. “Alexander’s running for Alpha King?”

“Yes,” I said, meeting his gaze. “We think he’s the best chance we have to stop Kael.”

"Your daughter convinced everyone last night," Dad threw a proud glance at me as he spoke.

My mother reached over and squeezed my hand. “I think it’s a wonderful idea. And it’s time Ezra started learning more about pack politics too.”

I glanced at my younger brother, who was busy shoveling food into his mouth. “Ezra,” I said, catching his attention. “You’re going to step up and start studying. No more slacking off.”

"That’s right. Your eighteenth birthday is coming up. You need to be ready," Dad added.

He groaned, but there was a spark of determination in his eyes. “Fine.”

I smiled, “Don’t worry. I will always have your back, my little brother.”

"Who are you calling little?" He pouted.

As we finished breakfast, I felt a sense of purpose settle over me. The road ahead was uncertain, and the stakes were higher than ever, but I wasn’t alone. I had my family, my friends, and Alaric. And for now, that was enough.
