His Abandoned Luna Chapter 124
|| Lilac’s POV ||
The ride home was a blur, the world outside the car window passing by in a haze of lights and shadows. My so-called mate— I still didn’t know his name— sat beside me, his presence a constant reminder of the bond I didn’t want. He tried to make conversation, his voice gentle and kind, but I couldn’t bring myself to respond.
“My name is Elias,” he said, his tone soft.
I stayed quiet.
“You are Lilac, right? Lilac Blackwood? I admire your father. I am a warrior from the royal army.” he introduced himself.
I couldn’t utter a word. As if my voice was gone.
“Is the car comfortable? Do you want some water? Or food or dessert?” he tried to make conversation but I stayed numb.
“I know this is overwhelming, but I want you to know that I’ll be here for you and I promise I will be patient with you.” he said in the end.
I nodded, my eyes fixed on the window. His words were kind, but they brought no comfort. How could they, when all I could think about was Alaric? The way his eyes had met mine across the room, the pain I had seen in them— it haunted me.
When we finally arrived at my house, Elias helped me out of the car, his touch careful and respectful. My parents were waiting at the door, their expressions a mix of relief and concern.
“Thank you, Elias,” I said as I walked out of the car.
Elias nodded with a smile, “Of course. Anything you need.”
“Umm, Lilac, I was thinking… since we are not mated yet, I want you to have my number.” he said.
“Can we talk tomorrow, please?” I asked.
“Of course,” he smiled.
“Thank you for bringing her home,” my father said, his voice steady but his eyes filled with questions.
Elias nodded. “Of course. I’ll give you all some space, but I’ll be nearby if you need me.”
As he walked away, I felt a strange mix of relief and guilt. He seemed kind, but he wasn’t Alaric. And that was the problem.
My mother led me inside, her arm wrapped tightly around my shoulders. “Sweetpea, talk to us. What happened?”
I sank into the couch, my hands trembling as I tried to find the words. “I… I don’t know, Mom. He said we’re mates, I heard Runa too… but… it doesn’t feel right. It doesn’t feel like it’s supposed to.”
My father sat across from me, his expression thoughtful. “Mate bonds are sacred, Lilac. If he’s your mate, then it’s for a reason. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy.”
“I know,” I whispered, my voice breaking. “But it doesn’t sit right. It’s not… I can’t explain.”
My mother’s eyes softened, her hand reaching out to squeeze mine. “Oh, sweetpea. I’m so sorry.”
I buried my face in my hands, the weight of the night crashing down on me. “What do I do, Mom? What should I do?”
As I lay in bed that night, my mind refused to quiet. I reached out to Runa again, my voice trembling in my mind. “Runa, please… help me. Are you sure about this?”
But Runa didn’t respond. Her silence was deafening, leaving me alone with my thoughts and the weight of a bond I didn’t want. I closed my eyes, tears slipping down my cheeks as I whispered into the darkness.
“Why now? Why him? Why not Alaric?”
The night offered no answers, only the cold, unyielding truth, my life had changed in an instant, and I wasn’t ready for what came next.
I stood up in the room, pacing back and forth as the cool breeze from the window brushed my cheek. The moonlight streamed in, casting long shadows across the floor. My mind was a storm of emotions, each one more overwhelming than the last. I felt lost, adrift in a sea of uncertainty and pain.
Then, in an instant, I felt him. Alaric’s presence was like a beacon, drawing me in even before I saw him. His face appeared in the window, his eyes filled with a mixture of concern and longing. He climbed in easily, his movements graceful and silent.
“Dove,” he said, his voice soft but filled with emotion. He cupped my cheeks, his touch warm and familiar.
“Alaric,” I whispered, my voice breaking as I threw my arms around him. I hugged him tightly, my tears soaking into his shirt. For a moment, the world faded away, and it was just the two of us.
“Is it true, dove?” he asked, his voice trembling. “Are you sure? I mean, your wolf is dormant. How can you be sure?”
I froze, pulling back to look at him. “What? How do you know…”
“Hunter couldn’t reach her,” he said, his eyes filled with pain. “I knew she was dormant, that’s why I’m asking. He’s not tricking you, is he?”
I shook my head, my heart breaking at the thought.
“No, I heard my wolf too,” I whispered, my voice barely audible.
Alaric’s grip tightened, his eyes filled with a possessive intensity.
“Don’t say that,” he said, his voice low and firm. “It’s you, dove. You are my everything, my Luna… how could he…” His voice trailed off, the pain in his eyes unbearable.
“I’m so sorry, Alaric,” I whispered, my tears falling freely.
“I love you, dove,” he said, his voice filled with raw emotion. He kissed my forehead, his lips warm against my skin. “But if that’s what the Goddess wants, then so be it.”
I closed my eyes, savoring the feel of his lips on my forehead. But when I opened them, he was gone, leaving me alone in the cold, empty room.
A knock on the door made me jolt. The door opened revealing Ezra.
“Hey,” he said, as he sniffed the air, “was he here?”
I nodded.
“Don’t be sad. You found your mate. He will make you forget everything,” Ezra patted my back as he said.
“What if I don’t want to forget?” I asked.
“You will. Once you find your mate, there's no going back. You will only see him, no matter how many big bad alphas show up before your eyes.” He chuckled.
“Try to get some sleep. We will talk tomorrow, ok?” he said again before leaving the room.
I leaned against the wall, my legs giving out as I slid to the ground. Since my rebirth, I had never felt this much pain— not even when I missed Runa. My torso curled into a ball as I cried, my tears soaking into the fabric of my dress. The weight of the bond, the loss of Alaric, and the silence of Runa crashed down on me, leaving me broken and alone.
The night stretched on, the moonlight casting long shadows across the room. I cried until there were no tears left, my heart aching with a pain I couldn’t begin to describe. The bond with Elias felt like a chain, binding me to a fate I didn’t want. And Alaric… Alaric was gone, his absence a gaping wound in my soul.
