His Abandoned Luna Chapter 55
|| Lilac's POV ||
“Alright,” I said, my voice steady now. “Let’s do it. Let’s go to the Wolf Gala.”
Elara’s grin returned, and she clapped her hands together. “That’s the spirit! Now, we need to figure out what you’re going to wear. This is a masquerade ball, after all. You need a dress that will make you feel like the queen you are.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at her enthusiasm. “You’re impossible, you know that?”
“And you love me for it,” she shot back, winking. “Now, come on. We have a lot of planning to do.”
As we spent the rest of the morning discussing dresses, masks, and the logistics of the event, I felt a sense of hope blossoming within me. For the first time in a long while, I allowed myself to dream of a future where I was happy, where I had found my mate and was free from the shadows of my past.
But as the day wore on, a nagging thought crept into the back of my mind. What if my mate wasn’t at the gala? What if the red moon didn’t guide me to them? And what if… what if Alaric was there?
The thought sent a shiver down my spine. Despite his denial, the connection I felt with him was undeniable. It was as if our souls were intertwined, even if fate had deemed us incompatible. Would seeing him again stir up old feelings? He is like a strome that cannot be tamped.
I pushed the thought aside, focusing instead on the excitement of the upcoming event. The Wolf Gala was my chance to start anew, to find the love and connection I had been searching for. And with Elara by my side, I knew I could face whatever challenges lay ahead.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting the sky in hues of orange and pink, I felt a sense of anticipation building within me. The red moon was coming, and with it, the possibility of a new beginning. I just had to be brave enough to take the first step.
Elara and I sat in the cozy sitting room of my small cottage, a fire crackling in the hearth. The room was filled with the scent of lavender and chamomile, a calming blend that helped soothe my nerves. Mom got us some snacks. She is equally excited with the news. Elara had brought over a stack of fashion magazines, and we were flipping through them, searching for inspiration for our gala attire.
“What about this one?” Elara asked, holding up a picture of a stunning gown adorned with intricate lace and shimmering beads. “It’s elegant, yet mysterious. Perfect for a masquerade.”
I studied the dress, tilting my head as I considered it. “It’s beautiful, but… I don’t know. I want something that feels like me. Something that makes me feel powerful.”
Elara nodded, understanding. “You want to make a statement. I get it. How about this?” She flipped to another page, showing a sleek, form-fitting gown in deep crimson. The neckline was adorned with delicate black lace, and the skirt flowed like liquid fire.
My breath caught. “That’s… stunning.”
Elara grinned. “I knew you’d like it. Red is your color, Lil. It’s bold, fierce, and unforgettable. Just like you.”
I felt a blush creep up my cheeks. “You’re too kind.”
“I’m just telling the truth,” she said, her tone light but sincere. “Now, let’s talk masks. We need something that complements the dress but also hides your identity.”
We spent the next hour brainstorming ideas, laughing and debating over the merits of feathers versus crystals. It felt good to let loose, to forget about the weight of my past and simply enjoy the moment.
As the night wore on, Elara’s expression grew more serious. She set down the magazine she was holding and turned to me, her green eyes filled with concern.
“Lil, can I ask you something?” she said softly.
I nodded, sensing the shift in her tone. “Of course. What is it?”
She hesitated for a moment before speaking. “How are you really feeling about all of this? About the gala, about finding your mate… about Alaric?”
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “I don’t know, Elara. Part of me is excited, hopeful even. But another part is terrified. What if I don’t find my mate? What if I’m destined to be alone?”
Elara reached out, taking my hand in hers. “You’re not alone, Lil. You have me, and you always will. And as for your mate… I believe you’ll find them. The red moon is a powerful force, and if anyone deserves to find their soulmate, it’s you.”
Her words brought tears to my eyes, and I squeezed her hand tightly. “Thank you, Elara.”
She smiled, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. “That’s what best friends are for,” she teased, repeating her earlier joke. “But seriously, Lil, you’re stronger than you think. And no matter what happens, I’ll be there with you.”
I nodded, feeling a renewed sense of determination. Elara was right. I couldn’t let fear hold me back. The Wolf Gala was my chance to take control of my destiny, and I wasn’t going to waste it.
As we sat there, the fire crackling softly in the background, I felt a sense of peace settle over me. The road ahead was uncertain, but with Elara by my side, I knew I could face whatever challenges lay ahead. The red moon was coming, and with it, the possibility of a new beginning. I just had to be brave enough to take the first step.
