His Abandoned Luna Chapter 122
|| Lilac’s POV ||
I walked away from the group, my mind still racing. Ezra stood near the edge of the room, his eyes measuring everything, everyone. And then there stood Alaric, talking to a few other alphas. My eyes were drawn to Alaric, his presence like a magnet pulling me in. Runa shifted faintly in my mind, her presence growing stronger the closer I got to him. Was this because of him? My heart pounded, a mix of hope and fear swirling inside me.
But before I could reach them, I felt a soft touch on my shoulder. “Forgive me, Miss,” a deep voice said.
I turned to see a warrior standing there, his light blue eyes glistening under the chandelier’s glow. He was tall and broad-shouldered, his aura strong and commanding. But there was something about him that made my stomach twist.
“Yes?” I asked, my voice calm despite the unease coiling in my chest.
Before he could say anything, I heard Runa’s voice in my head, faint but clear. ‘Mate.’
My world stopped. Mate. The word echoed in my mind, sharp and unyielding. Was it meant for him? My heart sank, a wave of pain crashing over me instead of the joy I should have felt.
He gently touched my hand, and I felt a faint spark. But it was nothing compared to the fire I felt with Alaric. There was no connection, no pull, no happiness. Why? Why now? Why did he have to show up?
“Do you not feel it?” he asked, his voice gentle but insistent.
I opened my mouth to respond, but the words caught in my throat. He didn’t wait for an answer.
“We are mates,” he declared, his tone firm.
The room seemed to spin around me, the noise fading into a dull roar. My eyes darted to Alaric, who was watching us like a hawk. His expression was unreadable, but I could feel the tension in his stance.
I took a step back, my mind racing. This wasn’t how it was supposed to be. This wasn’t what I wanted. Not anymore!
The world around me blurred, the noise of the grand hall fading into a distant hum. My heart pounded in my chest, each beat a painful reminder of the words that had just been spoken. Mate. The word echoed in my mind, sharp and unyielding, but it brought no joy— only confusion, pain, and a deep, aching longing for Alaric.
I stood frozen, my eyes locked with the warrior who had just declared himself my mate. His light blue eyes glistened with a mixture of hope and uncertainty, but all I felt was a faint spark, a pale imitation of the fire I felt with Alaric. My mind raced, my thoughts a whirlwind of emotions I couldn’t begin to untangle.
“Runa… please help me… are you sure?” I whispered in my mind, my voice trembling with desperation.
But Runa didn’t respond. Her silence was deafening, leaving me alone with my thoughts and the weight of a fate I didn’t want. The warrior— my supposed mate— reached for me again, his hand gentle but insistent. I pulled away, my heart pounding as I took a step back.
“I… I need a moment,” I stammered, my voice barely above a whisper.
He nodded, his expression softening. “I understand. This is a lot to take in.”
I turned and walked away, my legs carrying me through the crowd as if on autopilot. My eyes quickly found my mother, her face filled with concern as she rushed toward me.
“Sweetpea,” she said, pulling me into a tight embrace. “Is that true?”
I buried my face in her shoulder, my mind a whirlwind of emotions. “I… Mom…” I trailed off, my voice breaking.
Before I could gather my thoughts, Luna Cassandra’s voice cut through the room, sharp and commanding. “This is a very fortunate evening for all of us. Looks like our dear Lilac has found her mate.”
The room erupted in applause, the sound overwhelming as everyone turned to congratulate me. Their voices blended together, a cacophony of well-wishes and excitement that made my head spin.
“Congratulations!”
“I knew you deserved love!”
“After everything, she found him, finally!”
“Finding a soulmate is rare. Goddess is with you.”
“Oh, Goddess! I am so happy for you,” Astrid said, pulling me into a tight hug.
“This is big, Lilac. It must be overwhelming. I know this feeling! Oh goddess,” Madeline added, her hands gripping mine tightly.
Even Coco approached, her smile wide but her eyes cold.
“I told you, love and happiness await for you,” she said, her tone dripping with false sincerity.
I forced a smile, my mind racing. Did she have something to do with this? But how? How could she set up a mate bond? That was impossible. Could I trust this new wolf? I didn’t know. But he said I was his mate. So did Runa. I know Runa was dormant for now, but no one knew that. Obviously Coco couldn’t pull a trick like this. It was beyond her. How about Cassandra? I glanced at her as he gave me a hug.
“Lilac, my dear, this is a new beginning for you.” she smiled.
She couldn’t fake a mate bond either. It was impossible, beyond anyone standing here. Then was he really my fated mate?
“Lilac, are you okay?” Elara asked, her voice filled with concern.
I felt dizzy, the ground beneath my feet swaying as if it might give way at any moment. The room spun, the faces around me blurring into a sea of colors and sounds. I couldn’t handle it anymore. My knees buckled, and I felt myself falling.
But before I hit the ground, a strong pair of arms caught me. The faint spark I had sensed before ran through my skin, but there was no warmth, no comfort. My so-called mate held me up, his eyes filled with worry.
