His Abandoned Luna Chapter 108
|| Third Party POV ||
Benson drove straight to the palace, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly. The roads were eerily quiet, the moon casting long shadows across the pavement. His mind raced with questions, but one thought kept repeating itself. What does Darius want?
As he walked into the study of the Alpha King, he was taken aback. Darius wasn’t there. Instead, Cassandra sat in his chair, her sharp eyes gleaming with a predatory light. Kael stood by her side, his expression smug, while Coco lingered near the table, her presence like a shadow.
“Hello, Benson,” Cassandra said, her voice smooth and dripping with false warmth.
“Where’s Darius?” Benson asked, his tone clipped.
Cassandra tilted her head, a sly smile playing on her lips. “Now, now, are we too eager to see him?”
Benson’s jaw tightened. “What’s the meaning of all this?”
“Take a seat, Ben,” Cassandra said, gesturing to the chair opposite the desk. “We were friends once, weren’t we?”
Benson hesitated but sat down, his eyes never leaving hers. Something about her demeanor set his nerves on edge. Cassandra was a snake, and he knew better than to trust her.
“What do you want?” he asked, his voice low.
Cassandra leaned back in her chair, her smile widening. “Easy, Ben. Do you want a drink? You’ve had quite a day today.”
“I’m fine,” Benson said curtly.
Kael stepped forward, his voice cutting through the tension. “You heal quick, just as expected of the Royal Beta.”
Benson’s eyes narrowed.
“And I’ll love to have you by my side when I ascend the throne,” Kael added, his smile widening.
“Didn’t you decide to step down?” Benson asked, his tone sharp.
Kael shrugged, his expression mockingly innocent.
“I did, but look at the public. They’re begging me to come back. And I can’t really disappoint my people now, can I?”
Benson’s fists clenched at his sides. “Such a good stunt you pulled out there. Was it you, Cassandra?”
Coco stepped forward, her eyes blazing. “She is the Luna Queen. Address her properly.”
Cassandra held up a hand, silencing Coco with a single glance. “Play nice, Coco. Ben is an old friend. We go way back, don’t we, Ben?”
Benson stayed calm despite the storm he felt.
“And you know me so well, that terrifies me sometimes.” Cassandra stood, her movements graceful but deliberate.
“What are you up to this time?” Benson asked, his voice tight.
“You wrote that recommendation for Alexander, didn’t you?” Kael asked, his tone accusatory.
“I did,” Benson admitted, his gaze unwavering.
Cassandra’s smile faded, her voice turning cold. “You better stay out of this politics, Ben.”
“And why should I?” Benson shot back, his voice rising.
Cassandra’s eyes hardened. “Come on, Ben. You’re not that fierce warrior anymore. You have a family now. A beautiful wife, a young daughter, and even a son. Do you really think they’ll survive another rogue attack? The number, of course, won’t be fifteen this time. And those two dogs you’ve hired won’t be able to protect them.”
Benson stood, his chair scraping against the floor. “Are you threatening me?”
Kael stepped forward, his smile cold. “Of course not. After all, you are my Beta.”
Benson turned to leave, as he said, "Darius will hear about this."
But Cassandra’s voice stopped him in his tracks. “Surely Darius will know about this… after your entire family faces a tragic accident.”
Benson froze, his blood running cold. He turned back, his eyes blazing. “What do you want?”
Kael’s smile widened. “We need a little favor. You’ll report to the council that Alaric staged the attack.”
Benson’s fists clenched. “He saved my daughter. I’m not going to tarnish his name.”
“The choice is yours,” Kael said, his voice dripping with malice. “Either the rogue dies, and you testify as we say, or your precious Lilac will see another accident— very soon.”
Cassandra stepped forward, her voice soft but menacing. “And ask Lilac to stay away from Alaric. It will do no good to her.”
Benson’s heart pounded in his chest, but he forced himself to remain calm. “You’re making a mistake, Cassandra. Alaric is a good pup. He’s always been. The Goddess won’t forgive you.”
Cassandra’s smile was cold. “The Goddess doesn’t concern me.”
Benson turned and left the room, his mind racing. He knew Cassandra’s threats weren’t empty. She had connections rooted deep in darkness, and she would stop at nothing to protect Kael. As he walked away, guilt and frustration gnawed at him.
Alaric had saved Lilac.
His Luna.
His equal.
His future.
It was as if fate itself had woven them together.
He spoke of her with such love and possessiveness, it was almost as if they were soulmates.
And now, Benson was being forced to destroy it all.
His stomach twisted as he remembered the way Lilac had smiled at Alaric—really smiled—when they danced together at the last gathering. There had been a lightness in her steps, a glow in her eyes that Benson hadn’t seen in last few months. With everything happened recently, she seemed to finally find a happy place. She cared deeply about Alaric. Now, Benson was about to crush her heart.
