His Abandoned Luna Chapter 147
|| Lilac's POV ||
The next few days passed in a blur, each one blending into the next like watercolors on a canvas. Elara and I spent hours hunched over dusty old books, our fingers tracing faded ink as we searched for clues about the Nightshades. The library was quiet, the air thick with the scent of aged paper and the weight of unanswered questions. We found little— just fragments of their customs, rituals, and vague mentions of their power. Nothing concrete, nothing that could explain why Elias seemed so... off.
“This is useless,” I muttered, slamming a book shut and leaning back in my chair. My head was pounding, my eyes strained from hours of reading. “There’s nothing here.”
Elara glanced up from her own stack of books, her expression sympathetic. “We’ll find something, Lilac. We just have to keep looking.”
“What if there’s nothing to find?” I asked, my voice tinged with frustration. “What if Elias is exactly what he seems—a good man who just happens to be my soulmate?”
Elara sighed, setting her book down. “Then we’ll deal with that. But until we know for sure, we can’t let our guard down.”
I nodded, though the thought of Elias being genuine made my stomach churn. I didn’t want to believe it, couldn’t afford to believe it. Not when so much was at stake. He had to be some scheming dog!
In between my research sessions with Elara, I spent time with Elias, trying to coax information out of him. But it was like talking to a brick wall. He was charming, attentive, and seemingly genuine in his affection for me. But there was something about him—something I couldn’t quite put my finger on. Was he a master manipulator, playing a long con? Or was he truly in love with me, his soulmate? The uncertainty gnawed at me, a constant reminder that I couldn’t trust him. Not yet.
Elias and I went for a walk in the woods, the sunlight filtering through the trees and casting dappled shadows on the ground. The air was crisp, the scent of pine and earth filling my lungs. It was peaceful, almost too peaceful. But my mind was a mess thinking about last few days.
“So, how’s the council treating you?” I asked, my tone light and conversational.
Elias smiled, his hand brushing against mine as we walked. “It’s been busy, but good. I’m trying to help Alexander as well. But its hard to convince others.”
“I'm happy you are trying, Elias. That's what matters the most," I said, forcing a smile.
"How are the things from yourside?" He asked.
"I don't think Alexander can win anymore. Kael is everywhere!" I sighed as I lied to him. We had a full proof plan which was going well. We just decided not to tell Elias until we knew his motives.
"Don't worry too much. Things will take turn for a better good," he pulled me into a side hug.
"Yeah!" I smiled.
We continued to chat, the conversation flowing easily. But beneath the surface, I was on edge, my mind racing with questions. Was this all an act? If it were, he was damn good hiding his face. He was a warrior and must have received different trainings. Probably hiding emotions was one of them.
Suddenly, I felt a chill run down my spine, my senses prickling with unease. I stopped walking, my eyes scanning the trees around us.
“Elias,” I whispered, my voice tense. “Do you feel that?”
He nodded, his expression hardening.
“Stay close,” he said, his voice low and firm.
“Rogues,” I whispered, my heart pounding in my chest.
“Don’t be worried. I’ve been trained for this. No one touches you while I’m around,” Elias said, his tone confident.
Before I could respond, five rogues emerged from the shadows, their eyes glowing with feral intensity. Elias moved like a flash, his body partially shifting as he lunged at them. His hands were a blur, tearing through their throats with brutal efficiency. The rogues fell dead in an instant, their bodies crumpling to the ground.
“Wow,” I gasped, my eyes wide with shock. Elias was strong— stronger than I could have imagined.
“Stay put. We’re not done yet,” he said, his voice calm but firm. He moved again, pulling three more rogues from the bushes and dispatching them with the same ruthless precision. When he returned to me, his hands were stained with blood, but his expression was calm. He was a monster caged in human form!
“Are you okay?” he asked, cupping my face in his hands.
“I’m fine,” I said, my voice trembling. “You’re amazing.”
I could hardly believe my eyes. He was strong which should have comforted me. But it didn’t. Something kept bothering me and I couldn’t quiet place a name to it.
“Am I?” he chuckled, pulling me into a hug. But before I could relax, I felt it again—the prickling sense of danger.
“More are coming,” I said, my eyes darting around the trees.
“I’ll protect you,” Elias said, his voice steady.
But my heart said otherwise. We weren’t far from my father’s territory. A rogue attack of this magnitude shouldn’t have been possible. How had so many of them gotten this close? Someone was pulling the strings! Cassandra? This didn't look good.
“I think we better run,” I said, trying to pull away from Elias. “Closer we get to the house, the more help we’ll have. I'm sure we can find patrol guards.”
“It might be dangerous,” he said, his grip tightening on my arm.
“No, we’ll be safer at the house,” I argued, my voice rising in panic. “We can’t fight them all alone.”
“Have faith in me,” Elias said, his tone firm as he prepared to attack again.
But I couldn’t. Something about this felt wrong. I turned and ran, my heart pounding as I sprinted through the trees. Behind me, I heard growls and the sound of fighting. Elias was trying to stop me, his voice calling out, “Lilac, stop!”
“What’s wrong with you?” I yelled, my voice filled with fear and frustration. “There are too many of them. It’s not safe!”
“I’ll keep you safe,” he growled, his voice strained as he fought off the rogues.
But I didn’t stop. I couldn’t. My instincts screamed at me to run, to get as far away as possible. My heart pounded in my chest, my breath coming in ragged gasps.
Runa! Please help me!
I begged silently, but there was no response. My wolf was silent, leaving me alone and vulnerable.
I tried to mindlink, 'DAD!'
But couldn't reach him. Runa wasn't there, the connection wasn't there.
Suddenly, my path was blocked. Rogues surrounded me, their eyes gleaming with malice. I saw Elias further back, fighting off three more. I tried to outrun them, but it was no use. One of them caught me, his grip like iron.
“Elias! Help!” I screamed, my voice filled with desperation.
“Lilac!” Elias yelled, but he was too far away, bleeding and struggling against his own attackers.
I fought with everything I had, scratching, kicking, and clawing at the rogues. But it wasn’t enough. One of them threw me against the trunk of a tree, the impact knocking the breath from my lungs. My head hit a stone, and pain exploded behind my eyes.
Alaric
! I whispered, my vision blurring as I fell to the ground.
Help me, Alaric!
But there was no answer. The world went dark, and I lost consciousness, the sound of growls and fighting fading into nothingness.
