His Abandoned Luna Chapter 79
|| Lilac’s POV ||
“Yes, Kael,” I said, my tone sweet but firm. “Look at Alexander and Madeline. They just met, yet they seem so much in love. I want that for myself. I hope you understand as you know how it feels. A life long relationship fades away before the bond, isn't it?”
I paused, letting my words sink in before adding, “And I’ve promised myself that I will save my everything for my mate only.”
That's right, idiot. You have a mate so go to her! I yelled in my head.
The room was silent, the tension thick enough to cut with a knife. Kael stared at me, his expression a mix of shock and anger, but he quickly masked it with a forced smile.
“Of course, Lilac,” he said, though his voice was strained. “I understand.”
I gave him one last smile before walking away, my heart pounding in my chest. As I passed Alexander, our eyes met, and I swear I saw a smirk on his lips. He nodded once, a silent acknowledgment that he had my back if anything went wrong. I gave him a small smile in return, relief flooding through me. That had been a close call.
The Eclipse began, and the guests gathered by the pool, their eyes fixed on the sky as the moon was slowly swallowed by shadow. The sight was breathtaking, a true spectacle of nature’s power. But as the Eclipse reached its peak, a scream shattered the silence.
I turned to see Coco standing by the edge of the pool, her eyes wide with fear as she teetered dangerously close to the water.
“Please, no… I swear I have nothing to do with Kael anymore!” she cried, her voice loud enough for everyone to hear.
All eyes turned to us, and I realized what she was doing. She was holding my hand, and to the audience, it would look like I was pushing her into the pool. I smiled inwardly. Good move, Coco. But not good enough.
Instead of letting her fall, I tightened my grip on her hand, pulling her back from the edge. She tried to slip free, but my hold was firm.
“Hold still, Coco,” I said, my voice calm but carrying a subtle edge. It was loud enough for everyone to hear. “Otherwise, you’ll fall in the pool.”
She looked at me, her eyes wide with surprise and frustration. I pulled her away from the edge, my smile never wavering.
“By the way, who were you apologizing to?” I asked, my tone light but pointed.
Her gaze flicked to Kael for a moment before she bowed her head low.
“I… I don’t know what you mean,” she stammered.
“And why are you here, serving drinks? You are the future Luna for the Reventhorns. This doesn't suit you. The Alpha King won't be pleased if he found out.” I continued, my voice sweet but laced with suspicion. “Is everything alright?”
“I…” she trailed off, her voice trembling.
Alexander stepped forward, his expression stern.
“How did you get into our pack territory?” he demanded, his voice carrying the authority of an Alpha.
Coco mumbled an apology, her head still bowed. I placed a hand on Alexander’s arm, stopping him before he could press further.
“Let her breathe, Alexander. He probably came in with Kael,” I said, my tone gentle but firm. Whispers filled the hall. Kael just now staged a show and now his mate was here. Coco stared at me with wide eyes. Kael’s face darkened.
"This is useless! He just now declared his love for her!"
"How come he is here with his mate? What a shame!"
"Its a good thing Lilac said no to him. Otherwise she would have been humiliated once again!"
Many more whispers came to my aid and I smirked. Their plan backfired.
“Meanwhile, can we talk?”
He nodded, his eyes still narrowed in suspicion. “Sure,” he said, his voice tight.
As we walked away, I glanced back at Coco, my smile fading. She had played her hand, but I wasn’t about to let her— or Kael— win. The game was far from over.
Alexander led me to a private room, the heavy wooden door closing behind us with a soft click. The space was warm and inviting, the walls lined with bookshelves and the faint scent of cedar lingering in the air. But the atmosphere was anything but calm. The room was filled with people— Madeline, Alpha Asher, Alpha Daren, Astrid, Luna Alyna, Alexander’s mother, and my father. Their expressions ranged from concern to curiosity, and I could feel the weight of their gazes as I stepped inside.
“What’s the matter, Lilac?” Alexander asked, his voice calm but laced with urgency. He stood by the fireplace, his tall frame casting a shadow over the room. His blue eyes were sharp, searching mine for answers.
My father was the next to speak, his voice low and filled with anger.
“Why was Kael creating a scene again? And what is his mate doing here serving cocktails?” His fists were clenched at his sides, his frustration palpable. “This is getting out of hand. They keep pushing you every time.”
Madeline stepped forward, her dark hair framing her delicate features.
“This is going too far,” she said, her voice firm but tinged with worry. “They’re targeting Lilac deliberately, and it’s not right.”
I could see the concern in their eyes, the way they looked at me as if I were a fragile thing about to break. But I wasn’t fragile. Not anymore. I had been through too much to let Kael or anyone else dictate my life.
“Please, everyone, calm down,” I said, my voice steady despite the storm raging inside me. All eyes turned to me, the room falling silent as I took a deep breath. “I wanted to talk about Kael, actually.”
