As I reached my room, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out, my heart skipping a beat when I saw the name on the screen.

Alaric.

'Dinner or dessert?'

I couldn’t help but smile, my fingers flying over the screen as I typed my reply, 'I can’t. I’m kinda grounded.'

His response came almost immediately, 'I’ll wait for you in the woods then.'

I bit my lip, my stomach fluttering with a mix of excitement and nerves. Another message popped up before I could reply.

'I know you’ll find a way.'

I huffed, shaking my head. It felt like I was a teenager again, sneaking out to see a guy. But this wasn’t just any guy— this was Alaric. And despite the risks, I couldn’t resist the pull I felt toward him.

I changed quickly, throwing on a pair of shorts, a loose top, and some boots. I added a touch of light makeup, just enough to make me feel confident, before heading downstairs.

“I’m going for a walk,” I announced as I reached the bottom of the stairs.

My father looked up from his book, his brow furrowing. “Wait, where are you going?”

“Just here,” I said, gesturing vaguely toward the door.

“It’s not safe. Wait until Ezra gets back, or go in the morning,” he said, his tone firm.

“Oh, come on, Dad,” I argued, crossing my arms over my chest.

“Your father’s right,” my mother chimed in from the kitchen. “You’re not even fully healed yet.”

I sighed, knowing there was no point in arguing. “Whatever,” I muttered, turning on my heel and heading back upstairs.

I waited in my room, my heart pounding as I listened for any signs of movement downstairs. The TV was on, the low murmur of voices drifting up to my room. After a few minutes, I decided it was safe. I opened my window and climbed out, landing softly on the grass below.

The night air was cool against my skin as I made my way toward the woods. The scent of pine and earth filled my nose, calming my nerves as I walked deeper into the trees. It wasn’t long before I caught the familiar scent of pinewood, and my heart skipped a beat.

“Alaric,” I whispered, rushing toward him.

He turned just in time to catch me as I threw myself into his arms. He held me tightly, his warmth a comforting contrast to the cool night air. But then I felt him stiffen, his grip loosening slightly.

“For how long are you planning to stay there?” he asked, his voice low.

I pulled back, confused. “What?”

"Come out, Pup," Alaric said again.

His eyes were fixed on the trail behind me, and I turned to see Ezra stepping out of the shadows.

“So, is that why you sneaked out?” he asked, his grin widening.

“Ez, what are you doing here?” I demanded, my cheeks flushing with embarrassment.

“Me? What are you doing here? Didn’t you hear Dad? It’s dangerous,” he said, crossing his arms over his chest.

“It’s okay. I can take care of myself,” I argued.

“Besides, I’m here too,” Alaric said, his tone calm but firm.

Ezra’s grin widened. “So, you two are dating.”

“No,” I denied quickly, my face burning.

“Don’t lie. You sneaked out to see your boyfriend,” he teased.

“He’s not my boyfriend,” I shot back, my voice rising.

Ezra raised an eyebrow. “Oh yeah? Is that why you’re hugging him?”

I pulled away instantly, my cheeks flaming. That brat.

“Your sister’s right. I am not her boyfriend,” Alaric said, his voice cutting through the tension. My heart clenched. I knew we’d never talked about it, but… why did I have so many expectations?

“I’m her alpha,” he continued, his tone steady, “and she’s my Luna.”

Before I could react, he pulled me closer, his hand resting on my waist. His grip tightened, and then he leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to my lips.

“Gross,” Ezra muttered, turning away. “I’m gonna go. Make sure she gets home safely.”

As Ezra disappeared into the trees, Alaric chuckled. “That pup’s talented. He trailed you, but you didn’t even sense him.”

“That he is,” I said, feeling a surge of pride. “He’ll be Royal Beta someday.”

“Ready?” Alaric asked, his eyes softening as they met mine.

I nodded, my heart swelling with affection. “Ready.”

Alaric drove us to his pack, the familiar warmth of his wooden house welcoming me as we stepped inside. The scent of pine and earth filled the air, calming my nerves as I followed him inside.

“I’m gonna take a shower,” Alaric said, running his fingers through his hair.

“Okay,” I replied, my voice soft.

He disappeared into the bedroom, and soon I heard the sound of running water. My heart pounded in my chest, and before I knew it, my legs were carrying me toward the bathroom. The door was slightly ajar, and through the crack, I could see him through the glass shower door, his body glistening under the stream of water. His muscles rippled as he ran his hands through his hair, the droplets cascading down his chest and over the defined lines of his abdomen. My mouth went dry, and I couldn’t look away.

His lips found mine in a hungry kiss, his minty breath mingling with the steam that surrounded us. His hands moved swiftly, pulling my blouse over my head and letting it fall to the floor. His wet body pressed against mine, the heat of him searing through the thin fabric of my bra.
