His Abandoned Luna Chapter 125
|| Alaric’s POV ||
The days blurred together, each one indistinguishable from the last. I sat in my study, the dim light of a single lamp casting long shadows across the room. Papers were strewn across my desk—reports, patrol schedules, and requests from pack members—but I couldn’t bring myself to focus on any of them. My mind was elsewhere, trapped in a haze of sorrow and regret.
The bottle of whiskey on my desk was nearly empty, the amber liquid offering a fleeting escape from the pain that gnawed at my soul. I poured myself another glass, the sharp burn of the alcohol doing little to dull the ache in my chest. My wolf, Hunter, was restless, his howls echoing in my mind like a constant reminder of what I had lost.
‘She’s gone,’ Hunter growled, his voice filled with despair. ‘Our Luna is gone.’
I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms as I fought back the tears that threatened to spill. Lilac was my everything—my light, my hope, my reason for fighting. And now, she was gone, claimed by another. The bond between mates was sacred, but it didn’t make the loss any easier to bear.
The door creaked open, and Marcus stepped inside, his expression filled with concern. He had been by my side for years, my most trusted friend and confidant, but even he couldn’t understand the depth of my pain.
“Alaric,” he said, his voice gentle but firm. “You need to eat. You need to rest. You can’t keep going like this.”
I didn’t respond, my eyes fixed on the glass in my hand. The whiskey swirled as I tilted the glass, the liquid catching the light in a way that reminded me of Lilac’s eyes—bright, full of life, and now forever out of reach.
“Alaric,” Marcus said again, his tone more insistent. “What are you going to do?”
I set the glass down, my voice hollow as I replied, “Nothing.”
Marcus sighed, running a hand through his hair. “You can’t just shut down like this. The pack needs you. I need you.”
I looked up at him, my eyes filled with a pain I buried deep, ”Am I not doing enough for the pack? Am I not looking after all the businesses? What else do you need?”
Marcus’s expression softened, his eyes filled with sympathy. “I know it hurts, Alaric. But you have to move on. You have to find a way to live with this.”
I shook my head, my voice firm. “Move on? From what? She was my everything.”
Marcus left and I stayed there. Hunter was restless, his howls a constant reminder of the bond we had lost. I emptied the bottles from my cabinet as I lost count of time.
Elizabeth came in, making me realise it was already dark outside. One more day without my dove. She was one of the few who had always been honest with me, even when the truth was hard to hear. Her presence was a stark reminder of the life I had lost, the future that had been ripped away from me.
“Alaric,” she said, her voice soft but firm. “You need to listen to me.”
I didn’t respond, my eyes fixed on the empty glass in my hand. Elizabeth sighed, stepping closer. “Lilac was never your Luna. She was never meant to be yours. You need to accept that and move on.”
Her words cut through me like a knife, the pain sharp and unrelenting. I looked up at her, my eyes filled with a mixture of anger and despair. “Don’t,” I said, my voice trembling. “Don’t say that.”
Elizabeth’s expression softened, but her tone remained firm. “Alaric, you need to look for your soulmate. You need to find someone who can truly be your Luna and break the curse.”
I shook my head, my voice breaking. “Lilac is my Luna. She always will be. I won’t take or touch another woman in this lifetime.”
Elizabeth sighed, her eyes filled with pity. “You’re destroying yourself, Alaric. You’re destroying your pack. What about your legacy?”
I closed my eyes, the weight of her words crushing me. “I don’t know,” I whispered, my voice barely audible. “I cannot imagine anyone else but her as my mate or as the mother of my pup.”
Elizabeth sighed, her frustration evident. “You’re being selfish. You’re the Alpha. You have responsibilities. You can’t just—”
“I said I don’t care!” I roared, my voice echoing through the room.
“It's ok if you don't want to look for your soulmate but it is not acceptable for you not to have an offspring. you are the last of the Alpha bloodline of Nightshades.”
“I won’t take another woman,” I said, my voice firm despite the tears burning me from inside. “I won’t touch another woman. Not in this lifetime. She’s my Luna. I choose her as my mate. And I’ll wait for her. No matter how long it takes.”
