His Abandoned Luna Chapter 69
|| Lilac's POV ||
Elara didn’t hesitate. She moved to sit beside me, her arm wrapping around my shoulders in a comforting embrace. “Talk to me,” she said, her tone gentle but firm.
I wanted to tell her everything— about the Moon Goddess’s vision, about the destruction I had seen, about the fear that was eating me alive. But the words caught in my throat, and all that came out was a single name. “Alaric.”
Elara sighed, her expression a mix of frustration and sympathy. “Gosh, Lil. If you like him that much, why are you still looking for a soulmate?” she asked, her voice tinged with exasperation.
I couldn’t reply. My throat felt tight, my chest heavy with emotions I couldn’t put into words. I just sat there, numb, staring at the cold cup of coffee in front of me.
Elara leaned back, her arms crossed over her chest as she studied me. “I mean, this is ridiculous,” she said, her tone sharper now. “You’re clearly head over heels for him, and he’s clearly obsessed with you. So what’s the problem?”
“I have to find my mate,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
Elara rolled her eyes, her frustration evident. “What kind of nonsense are you into?” she said, her tone incredulous. “You’re torturing yourself, Lil. And for what? Some vague idea of a ‘mate’ that might not even exist?”
“You don’t understand,” I said, my voice trembling. “It’s not that simple.”
“I do understand, okay?” she shot back, her tone softening. “I know how heartbreak feels. But this… this is different. You’re not just hurting yourself— you’re hurting him too. And for what? Some destiny that might not even be real?”
I shook my head, tears streaming down my face. “It’s not just about me, Elara. If I don’t find my mate, everyone I love will suffer. My parents, Ezra, you… and Alaric. I can’t risk that.”
"What on heaven are you talking about?" She froze.
"It’s too overwhelming," I replied as I sobbed. I almost told her the truth. I need to be careful! Tears steamed down my face.
Elara’s expression softened, and she reached out, squeezing my hand. “Lil, you can’t live your life based on what-ifs. If you love Alaric, then fight for him. Fight for what you want.”
Her words echoed in my mind, but they didn’t bring the comfort I had hoped for. Instead, they only deepened the ache in my chest. “And are you even sure he’s not your mate?” Elara asked, her tone thoughtful now. “I mean, the way you react to him… it’s insane. The way he looks at you… it’s like you’re the only person in the world.”
I froze, her words hitting me like a punch to the gut. I wished she was right. I wished Alaric was the one. But he had said no. He had told me we weren’t mates. And yet… the way I felt about him, the way he made me feel, it was unlike anything I had ever experienced.
“No, we’re not,” I said, my voice trembling. “He said so himself.”
Elara frowned, her brow furrowing as she thought. “I mean, are you really sure? I know scent is a key factor in finding a mate, but maybe you missed it somehow? Or maybe he did?”
I shook my head, frustration bubbling up inside me. “You think we both missed it? It’s not a joke, Elara. The mate bond is supposed to be undeniable. You’re supposed to know.”
Elara leaned back, her expression thoughtful. “I know, I know. But the way they describe the bond… it’s that undeniable pull, right? Like you’re drawn to each other no matter what. And it seems to be the case for you two.”
Her words lingered in the air, and for a moment, I allowed myself to hope. Maybe she was right. Maybe Alaric was my mate, and we had both missed it somehow. Maybe the Moon Goddess’s vision was a test, a way to see if I would fight for what I truly wanted. Maybe Alaric was my happily ever after.
But the thought was fleeting, quickly overshadowed by the fear and doubt that had taken root in my heart. Trusting in Elara’s words felt like believing in a fairy tale, something too good to be true. And yet… the way Alaric made me feel, the way my heart raced whenever he was near, it was unlike anything I had ever experienced.
“I don’t know, Elara,” I said, my voice trembling. “I just… I don’t know.”
Elara sighed, her expression softening as she reached out to squeeze my hand. “Lil, you can’t keep living like this. You’re tearing yourself apart. If you love him, then fight for him. Fight for what you want.”
Her words echoed in my mind, and for the first time in what felt like forever, I felt a glimmer of hope. Maybe, just maybe, I could have it all. Maybe I could defy destiny and find a way to be with Alaric.
But first, I needed to talk to him. I needed to tell him everything— about the vision, about my fears, about how much he meant to me. Could I trust him? What if he was not what I think of him? What if he was also colliding with the enemies? What if he forces me to stay with him, knowing the truth? It will kill him in the end.
