|| Lilac's POV ||

Alaric’s eyes flashed with something primal, his grip on my hips tightening as he leaned in closer. His breath brushed against my ear, warm and minty, as he whispered, “Careful what you wish for, little Dove.”

I shivered, the heat of his body against mine making it hard to think.

Was it the alcohol, or was it him? I didn’t know, and at that moment, I didn’t care.

All I knew was that I wanted him, wanted to feel his hands on me, his lips on mine, his body pressed against me in a way that left no space between us. Every time I touched him, a spark ran through me, making him more desirable.

The music was still thrumming in my veins as I stepped off the dance floor, my body humming with the residual energy of the night. The bar was alive with laughter and chatter, the air thick with the scent of alcohol and sweat, but I needed a moment to breathe. My heart was racing, my skin still tingling from the heat of Alaric’s touch.

I could feel his eyes on me as I walked away, his gaze burning into my back like a brand. I didn’t have to turn around to know he was following me. And that's what I wanted.

I slipped into a dimly lit hallway, the noise of the bar fading into a distant hum as I leaned against the wall, trying to steady my breathing. My mind was a whirlwind of emotions, desire, confusion, and a flicker of fear.

I had never felt this way before, this raw, unrelenting need that threatened to consume me. And Alaric… he was like a storm, unpredictable and dangerous, but impossible to resist. Was this right? He was a Reventhorn. On top of that he was the half brother to the man I just dumped. My brain froze for a moment! This was beyond craziness.

The sound of footsteps echoed down the hallway, and I looked up to see Alaric approaching, his grey eyes dark with desire. He didn’t say a word as he closed the distance between us, his presence overwhelming as he caged me against the wall. His hands rested on either side of my head, his body so close I could feel the heat radiating off him.

“Running away, Dove?” he murmured, his voice low and husky, sending a shiver down my spine.

I tilted my head up to meet his gaze, my heart pounding in my chest.

“Just needed some air,” I said, my voice steady despite the storm raging inside me. I wanted to curl my arms around him and kiss him again. Oh Goddess!

Alaric’s lips curved into a smirk as if he could read my mind, his eyes glinting with amusement. He leaned closer, even if that was possible.

“You don’t need air,” he said, his tone teasing. “You need me.”

Before I could respond, his lips crashed onto mine, the kiss fierce and demanding. His hands slid to my waist, pulling me closer as his mouth moved against mine with a hunger that left me breathless. The taste of him was intoxicating, a mix of whiskey and something uniquely Alaric that made my head spin. His scent enveloped me, the sharp, earthy aroma of pinewoods mingling with the faint musk of his skin, creating a heady combination that made my knees weak.

I melted into the kiss, my hands tangling in his hair as I kissed him back with equal fervor. The world around us faded away, the music and the crowd becoming a distant hum as the heat between us grew. His lips were soft yet insistent, his tongue teasing mine in a way that sent sparks of electricity shooting through me. The alcohol in my system only heightened the sensations, the warmth spreading through me like a wildfire.

Alaric’s hands roamed over my body, his touch sending shivers of pleasure through me. He pulled me even closer, our bodies pressed together in a way that left no space between us. The heat of his skin against mine was almost unbearable, the friction of our movements igniting a fire that threatened to consume us both.

When we finally broke apart, both of us were breathless, our chests rising and falling in sync. Alaric’s eyes were dark with desire, his gaze locked onto mine as he brushed a strand of hair from my face.

I smirked, my confidence returning as I looked up at him.

Fuck the world. I wanted him, needed him.

“Now what?” I said, my tone teasing, my finger trailing his jawline.

Alaric chuckled, the sound low and rich as he leaned in closer. “Let’s get out of here,” he said, his voice a soft command.

I nodded, my heart racing as he took my hand and led me down the hallway. Alaric’s hand closed around mine, his grip firm but gentle as he pulled me into one of the rooms. The door clicked shut behind us, the sound loud in the sudden silence. The room was dimly lit, the soft glow of a single lamp casting shadows on the walls. The air was cool, a stark contrast to the heat that was building between us.

I turned to face him, my heart pounding in my chest as I met his gaze. His eyes were dark with desire, his expression one of raw intensity as he stepped closer, his body crowding mine against the door. His hands rested on either side of my head, caging me in as he leaned down, his lips brushing against mine in a kiss that was both tender and demanding.

“You’re playing with fire, Lilac,” he said, his voice low and rough, the words sending a thrill through me.

I smirked, my hands sliding up his chest to rest on his shoulders. “Then burn me,” I said, my voice a challenge, a dare.
