We continued walking, the tension between us easing as we approached the grand hall. The sound of music and laughter grew louder, the vibrant energy of the party pulling us back into its orbit. As we stepped inside, my eyes scanned the room, taking in the glittering gowns, the masked faces, the clinking glasses. And then I saw it— the scene I had been hoping for.

I made my way toward the buffet table, my steps purposeful but unhurried. My eyes landed on Astrid, her golden hair catching the light as she stood beside Kael. Another girl was with them, her dark hair and bright smile instantly recognizable. Madeline.

As I approached, Madeline turned to me, her face lighting up with a bright smile.

“Sorry I’m late,” she said, giving me a quick hug. Her warmth was infectious, and I couldn’t help but smile back.

“Hey, Madeline. I’m so glad you came,” I replied, my voice filled with genuine relief. Everything was falling into place.

“Well, I had to,” she said, her eyes sparkling. “The way you described this event… I couldn’t miss it.”

I glanced at Astrid, who was watching us with polite curiosity.

“By the way, meet Astrid. She’s the daughter of Alpha Daren Moonvale and my best friend,” Madeline said, her tone light and cheerful.

“Nice to meet you, Astrid,” I said, extending my hand. She shook it with a polite smile, her demeanor graceful and poised.

"So, you are Lilac, right?" Astrid smiled. I nodded.

Kael, who had been standing quietly beside Astrid, finally spoke up.

“What a great party, Alexander,” he said, his tone dripping with false charm. But Alexander ignored him, his eyes locked on Madeline instead.

“Hello,” Alexander said, his voice trembling slightly as he stepped closer to her. His usual confidence seemed to waver, replaced by a nervous energy that was almost endearing.

“Hey,” Madeline replied, her smile shy but warm.

“Welcome to my pack,” Alexander said, his voice soft but filled with sincerity. He took her hand gently, lifting it to his lips and pressing a kiss to her knuckles. The gesture was old-fashioned but charming, and I could see the blush creeping up Madeline’s cheeks.

“Madeline, meet Alexander, the soon-to-be Alpha of Silver Moon,” I said, my voice carrying a hint of pride. “Alexander, this is Madeline. Her father is the Beta of the Moonvale Pack.”

“Madeline,” Alexander repeated, his voice almost reverent. “Beautiful name.”

He sniffed her hand once, a subtle but unmistakable gesture that sent a jolt of realization through me. His gaze held the same intensity as Alaric’s when he looked at me, and my heart skipped a beat. This was it. The moment I had been hoping for.

“What’s going on here?” Astrid asked, her voice tinged with confusion.

“Mate,” Alexander and Madeline said in unison, their eyes locking as the word hung in the air. The spark between them was undeniable, a magnetic pull that seemed to light up the room.

“Oh my god! This is huge!” Astrid exclaimed, her excitement bubbling over as she pulled Madeline into a tight hug. “I’m so glad you came here tonight, Maddy. Otherwise, some people were trying to set me up with your soulmate,” she added, shooting a pointed glare at Kael.

“True,” Alpha Daren said, stepping forward with a smile. “It would have been very disappointing for my pack, as Madeline’s father is very dear to me. And she is like my second daughter.”

Alexander turned to me, his eyes filled with gratitude.

“You were right, Lilac,” he said, his voice soft but filled with emotion. “It’s worth the wait. Thank you.”

“Yes, it’s all thanks to you, Lilac,” Madeline added, her smile radiant. “If I hadn’t bumped into you in the capital, I wouldn’t have thought of coming either.”

I smiled inwardly, the pieces of my plan falling neatly into place. I had dug up where Madeline worked and orchestrated an “accidental” meeting when she walked out of her office. We had chatted over coffee, and she had recognized me easily— thanks to my newfound fame as Kael’s ex-fiancée. I had pretended to have no ride, and she had kindly offered me one. She was nice, genuine, and I had known she would be perfect for Alexander. I had told her about the beautiful Eclipse that could only be seen from Silver Moon territory and invited her as my plus one. She was influenced easily. And now, here we were.

The room erupted into applause, the sound filling the grand hall. “Here, today, I declare my son to be the next Alpha of Silver Moon,” Alpha Asher continued, his voice ringing with pride. “And Madeline, from the Moonvale Pack, will be the future Luna of Silver Moon.”
