His Abandoned Luna Chapter 99
|| Lilac’s POV ||
“Nothing,” I replied with a sigh, though the word felt hollow even to me.
“Nothing?” Elara raised an eyebrow, her expression skeptical. “It wasn’t nothing. The way he looked at you, and the way you reacted… It’s almost like you two are soulmates. Are you sure he’s not your mate? Really, really sure?”
“He isn’t,” I said, my voice firm despite the ache in my chest. I wished he was. I wished we could be together forever. I wished I could bear his mark. But what was up with him? Why did he showed so much public affection suddenly? As if he wanted to claim me before the entire country. I should be upset but I was proud instead!
“Not possible,” Madeline said, shaking her head. “The attraction between you two was undeniable. The way you two looked at each other...”
“Wait, are you two together or something?” Astrid asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.
“Surely they are, but not during the daytime,” Elara said, faking a cough as she smirked.
“Oh my god! You two are sleeping together?” Astrid gasped, her voice rising.
“Shhh, shut up, you three,” I hissed, my cheeks burning as I tried to silence them. My cheeks were burning.
“Wait, that’s why he helped Alexander,” Madeline said, her tone thoughtful.
“He’s a good man, ok? He would have helped regardless,” I admitted, my voice soft.
“And you two clearly like each other. Why on earth are you looking for a mate, then?” Astrid asked, her brow furrowed.
“I… I want something genuine,” I said, though the words felt heavy on my tongue.
“The dance looked pretty genuine to me,” Elara said, her tone teasing.
“Agreed,” Astrid and Madeline chimed in.
“Okay, I know Alaric… he makes me feel things, but I need to find my soulmate. This is important to me,” I said, my voice firm.
“Okay, okay… but seriously, Alaric could be dangerous. I mean the rumors and all...” Madeline said, her tone serious.
“You better take care of yourself,” Elara added, her expression softening.
“We’re a bit worried,” Astrid said, her voice gentle.
“There’s nothing serious.” I replied, though the lie tasted bitter on my tongue. Who was I trying to fool?
“At least tell us how he is in bed,” Astrid said, her tone light as she tried to lighten the mood.
“Is he as good as the beast he showed just now?” Elara added, her smirk returning.
“Enough already,” I sighed, though I couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at my lips. They all laughed, the tension easing slightly.
"Besides who could be more dangerous than this idiotic Kael?" I tried to change the subject.
"Sorry Madeline. Kael will take the headlines again," Elara said and we all laughed. He clearly had outdone himself. It was even worse than showing his naked ass on national TV.
“Sweetpea,” my mom’s voice broke through the conversation. She looked worried as she approached, her eyes scanning the room.
“Let’s go home,” she said, her tone firm.
“Oh, okay,” I nodded, feeling a pang of guilt for worrying her.
As we walked toward the car, my mom remained silent, her expression unreadable. Dad was waiting for us, his arms crossed as he leaned against the car.
“My car is over there,” I said, gesturing to where I had parked.
“Get in. Ez will drive that back,” Dad said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
I climbed into the car, the silence heavy as we drove away. Finally, Dad spoke up.
“Alaric and you seemed pretty close,” he said, his voice neutral but his eyes sharp.
“We’ve known each other for quite a while,” I replied, my tone careful.
“We’ve never heard you talk about Alaric before,” Mom said, her voice tinged with suspicion.
“Well, there’s nothing to talk about,” I said, though the words felt like a lie.
“Is that so?” Dad asked, his tone skeptical.
“What are you implying?” I asked, my frustration bubbling to the surface.
“What’s going on between you two? Is he your soulmate?” Mom asked, her voice gentle but probing.
“No, he isn’t,” I said, my voice firm.
“Are you two dating? Is that why you broke free of Kael? Be truthful,” Mom pressed.
“No, Mom,” I replied, my voice tight.
“Good, then,” Dad said, his tone final.
“I want you to stay away from him,” he added, his voice firm.
“But why?” I asked, my frustration mounting. Why everyone wanted me to stay away? Why couldn’t they see how nice Alaric was!
“He’s not a good influence. And after Kael, we don’t want you tangled with another Reventhorn,” Dad said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
“Alaric is nothing like Kael,” I argued, my voice rising.
“You’re right. Kael is a coward, always hiding behind Cassandra’s veil. Alaric, on the other hand, is like an untamed beast. They’re not alike, and that’s more of a reason for you to stay away from him,” Dad said, his voice cold.
“Didn’t you want to look for your soulmate? I’ll help you,” Mom said, her tone softening.
“Yes, we’d better focus on that. Even if you don’t find your soulmate, we’ll find a match for you. But you are not to have a relationship with Alaric,” Dad said, his voice final.
I stared out the window, my heart heavy. Why was everyone against us? Why couldn’t they see that Alaric wasn’t the monster they thought he was? The ache in my chest grew, and I couldn’t help but wonder if I was fighting a battle I was destined to lose.
