His Abandoned Luna Chapter 120
|| Lilac’s POV ||
The Moon Garden was a vision of opulence, bathed in the soft glow of twinkling lights and the silvery radiance of the full moon. The air was thick with the scent of blooming flowers and the hum of excited chatter. Everywhere I looked, guests were dressed in their finest, their laughter and animated conversations filling the night. Kael and Coco stood at the center of it all, their smiles wide and their eyes gleaming with triumph. It was a spectacle designed to remind everyone of their power and influence, and it was working.
I stayed close to my family, my eyes scanning the crowd for any signs of trouble. My father stood tall and composed, his expression unreadable, while my mother looked radiant in her elegant gown. Ezra, for once, seemed serious, his usual playful demeanor replaced by a quiet vigilance. I could feel the tension in the air, a subtle undercurrent that no amount of glittering lights or cheerful music could mask.
My gaze drifted across the room, and I spotted Alaric standing with Marcus and a few other members of his pack. Our eyes met for a brief moment, and I felt a surge of warmth. He nodded slightly, a silent reassurance that he was watching, too. I nodded back, my heart steadying at the sight of him. Whatever happened tonight, I wasn’t alone.
As the ceremony began, Kael stepped forward, his voice carrying through the crowd with practiced ease. “Tonight, we celebrate the bond between a wolf and his mate. A bond that is unbreakable, unyielding, and eternal.”
The crowd erupted in applause, their admiration for Kael and Coco palpable. But I couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that settled over me. This wasn’t just a celebration. It was a show of power, a reminder of Kael’s dominance. And I knew, deep down, that something was about to go terribly wrong.
As the ceremony continued, I felt a hand on my arm. I turned to see Coco standing beside me, her smile sweet but her eyes cold.
“Lilac, I’m so glad you could make it,” she said, her voice dripping with false sincerity.
“Coco,” I replied, my tone polite but guarded. “Congratulations.”
“Thank you,” she said, her smile widening. “I have a gift for you. A token of our… friendship.”
She leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. “You will find it very soon.”
Her words sent a shiver down my spine. I clutched the purse tightly, my mind racing. What was she planning? I looked around the room, my eyes scanning every detail, every face. And then I saw him.
A man from my past life. I didn’t know his name, but I knew he was up to no good. He glanced at Coco once, a silent exchange passing between them, before he slipped out of the grand hall. My heart sank. I knew that face. I knew what he was capable of.
Coco’s voice pulled me back to the present.
“By the way, I haven’t seen Madeline in a while. I wonder where she is?” she said, her voice high-pitched and innocent.
My heart skipped a beat. I scanned the room, but Madeline was nowhere to be seen. I masked my fear with a smile, forcing myself to remain calm.
“She must be with Alexander,” I replied, my voice steady.
“Maybe!” Coco said, her smile widening. “If you’ll excuse me.”
She walked away, her steps light and carefree, but I knew better. This was a trap, and I had to act fast.
I didn’t waste a single second. I rushed through the crowd, my eyes searching for Alexander. I found him near the edge of the room, deep in conversation with a group of alphas. I approached them with a smile, my heart pounding in my chest.
“Good evening, alphas,” I said, my voice calm and polite. “Can I please borrow him for a moment?”
The alphas nodded, their expressions curious but polite. I curled my arm around Alexander’s and pulled him aside, my grip tight.
“What happened, Lilac?” he asked, his brow furrowed with concern.
“No time to explain,” I said, my voice low and urgent. “Follow me and keep your cool.”
We slipped out of the grand hall, the cool night air hitting my face as we stepped into the garden. I kicked off my heels, the grass soft beneath my feet, and broke into a run. Alexander followed without question, his long strides keeping pace with mine.
Memories of my past life flashed through my mind. That same man— the one I’d seen earlier— had tried to defile me during one of the celebrations. Back then, I was the Luna Queen, and the incident had been a devastating blow. Photographs of me in compromising positions had gone viral, and Kael had done nothing to defend me. I had been trapped in the palace for months, my reputation in ruins, while Coco had taken every opportunity to play the role of Luna at Kael’s side.
At the time, I had thought it was an accident. But now, things were becoming clearer. Coco had orchestrated it all, and tonight, she was planning the same for Madeline. This was her revenge— against me, against Alexander, against anyone who stood in her way.
“Lilac, where are we going?” Alexander asked, his voice tense.
“Don’t question,” I replied, my eyes fixed on the path ahead. “Just trust me.”
We reached the secluded part of the garden, and my heart sank. Madeline stood cornered by three men, her face pale and her eyes wide with fear. Alexander didn’t hesitate. He moved like a shadow, his fists flying as he took down the men before they could even react. They crumpled to the ground, unconscious.
“Are you okay?” I asked, rushing to Madeline’s side.
“Yeah,” she mumbled, her voice trembling. “I was scared.”
“Listen up,” I said, my tone firm. “This is a setup. I’m sure reporters will be here soon. Don’t let them see you vulnerable.”
“Understood,” Alexander said, his jaw clenched with anger.
