I didn’t think. I just ran to him, throwing my arms around him and burying my face in his chest. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I clung to him, his scent a balm to my frayed nerves.

“Alaric,” I whispered, my voice breaking. “I’m so sorry… after everything… I had to come and see you.”

He held me tightly, his hands warm and reassuring against my back.

“Dove, what’s wrong?” he murmured, his voice soft and soothing.

I pulled back slightly, my eyes meeting his.

“We need to talk. But first…” I glanced around the room, realizing we weren’t alone. Marcus and a few others stood nearby, their expressions a mix of surprise and concern.

“I’m sorry, I should have knocked,” I said, my cheeks flushing.

Marcus shook his head, a small smile playing on his lips. “It’s all good, Luna. We were done here anyway.”

As the others filed out, I called out to Marcus. “Marcus, can you please stay back?”

He hesitated, glancing at Alaric before nodding. “Yes, Luna.”

I turned back to Alaric, my heart heavy but determined.

“The council will summon you soon,” I said, my voice steady despite the fear gnawing at me.

“I know,” Alaric replied, his tone calm but resolute. “But don’t worry, dove. I’ll take care of it.”

I shook my head, my hands gripping his.

“I’m sorry for what my father did. I think he might have been threatened.” I explained everything Elara had told me, my voice trembling as I recounted the details.

“So we need a plan that will clear your name but won’t tarnish my father’s reputation,” I finished, my eyes pleading with him to understand.

Marcus frowned, his brow furrowed in thought. “That might be complicated.”

I smiled faintly, a spark of determination igniting within me. “Well, luckily, I have one. I didn’t just sit there in silence all day. I did my homework.”

The moment Lilac burst into the room, my world shifted. She was here— my Lilac, my dove, my Luna. She had come all this way, risking everything to see me. And not only that, she had a plan to save my name and her father’s reputation at the same time.

“This is fantastic, Luna,” Marcus said, his voice filled with admiration.

I shot him a look, my patience wearing thin.

“Enough talk. Don’t you have to check on the border patrol?” I asked, my tone sharp.

Marcus blinked, clearly confused. “Border patrol?”

'Leave us alone, you idiot,' I growled through the mindlink.

“Yes, understood. I should get going. See you soon, Luna,” Marcus said, hurrying out of the room.

As the door closed behind him, I turned to Lilac, my heart swelling with pride and affection.

“How did you get here?” I asked, my voice soft.

She chuckled, a faint blush coloring her cheeks. “I… I walked.”

“What? That’s a long way,” I said, my eyes widening in disbelief.

“I needed to see you. If I took my car, I would be in the rader. So I just walked,” she replied, her voice steady despite the exhaustion etched into her features.

I pulled her into my arms, holding her tightly.

“I’m so sorry, Alaric. I couldn’t stand by your side,” she whispered, her voice trembling.

“You’re here now, and that’s all that matters,” I said, pressing a kiss to her forehead. My wolf growled in my head, a deep, possessive sound. She was our light, our soul, our everything.

As I held her, I couldn’t help but marvel at her strength, her determination. She had risked everything to come to me, to stand by my side. And in that moment, I knew there was nothing we couldn’t face together.

The pack diner was a large, rustic hall filled with the hum of conversation and the clatter of dishes. The scent of roasted meat and fresh bread wafted through the air, mingling with the earthy aroma of pine and wood smoke. As Alaric led me inside, the room fell silent, every eye turning to us. The weight of their stares pressed down on me, a mix of curiosity, suspicion, and outright hostility.

I clenched my fists at my sides, my heart pounding in my chest. Some of the pack members glared at me, their eyes burning with anger. Others watched me cautiously, their expressions unreadable. I could feel their judgment, their distrust, and it made my stomach churn.

“Ignore them,” Alaric murmured, his hand resting reassuringly on the small of my back. His touch was warm, grounding, but it did little to ease the tension coiling inside me.

“I can’t,” I whispered, my voice trembling. “This is my fault… in a way.”

Alaric turned to me, his eyes soft but firm.

“No, it’s not,” he said, his thumb brushing against my cheek. A small smile tugged at my lips, but it didn’t reach my eyes.

“Let’s have some dinner, and then I’ll ask the medic to check on you,” he said, his tone leaving no room for argument.

“I’m fine,” I protested weakly, but Alaric shook his head.

“No, you’re not healed yet. Besides, you were attacked by wolfsbane,” he reminded me, his voice gentle but insistent. He guided me to a table near the center of the room, where a few warriors and Elizabeth, the pack’s sharp-tongued liaison, were already seated.

The head of warriors, his Gamma, a burly man with a scar running down his cheek, and a fierce-looking woman with piercing green eyes— nodded in acknowledgment as we approached. Elizabeth, however, barely glanced at me, her lips pressed into a thin line.

“Lilac, this is Garry and Taryn,” Alaric said, introducing the warriors. “They’re two of my most trusted.”

Garry gave me a curt nod, his expression neutral, while Taryn offered a small, hesitant smile. Elizabeth, on the other hand, remained silent, her eyes fixed on her plate.
