Shadow’s POV: Continued

She paused, looking at her then looking at me. “Shadow?” she said again with a frown and looked down, then back at me before her knife dropped from hand, and her body became heavy in my hand. I held her body up easily, and I frowned wondering what was wrong. I looked down and saw my mate with a knife in her hand sticking out of Shawna’s rib cage. That's when her body went completely limped in my arms. No, no, no baby please no!" I roared angrily as she looked at me trying to say something, but only coughed up blood as her eyes closed. No, no baby please open your eyes please baby don't do this to me. Please, please Shawna. I said as my eyes filled with tears. She opened her eyes again and whispered, “My baby.” before her eyes closed and her head fell back. “What the hell happened shadow?" Hunter's asked coming up next.

“I have to get Shawna to the clinic take her up and follow me to the clinic.” I said nodding in the direction of my mate as I quickly picked Shawna up careful not to move the knife that is sticking out of her ribs. I could still hear a heartbeat, but it was slowing down which made me panic. I broke out into a run as the words she said before she went unconscious replied in my mind. “Hey doc are you at the clinic?” I mind linked. Yes commander. what happened?” He responded. “Shawna’s been stabbed in the ribs have everything prepped and ready.” I said running as fast as I can. Rane wanted to shift because he could run faster in wolf form. We were both confused that our mate was alive, and she just stabbed Shawna. “Shadow What the hell happened?” The alpha mind linked me.

“I don’t know the details yet, but alpha, Scarlett is still alive, she was the one Shawna was chasing. When I got there Shawna was getting ready to kill her. I stopped her but didn’t see Scarlett had pulled a knife and stabbed Shawna in the rib.” I said, with the fear of losing Shawna at the forefront of my mind. I burst through the clinic doors; the doc was fully covered from head to toe. I finally remembered that their blood burns us. I looked down to see smoke coming from where Shawna’s blood was falling on me. I barely felt the pain through the panic. My focus was completely on Shawna’s heartbeat which was showing down as I placed her on a gurney, I kneeled next to her and grabbed her hand which was now cold to the touch. “Commander, we need to get her to surgery she's losing too much blood.” The doc said, as the nurses were trying to exit the room.

I let go of her hands but stayed kneeling in the same spot. I was numb looking at all the blood rags, they were laid around the room. I don’t know how long I stayed in that spot. “Shadow?” Hunter said as he entered the room and gasped when he saw all the body rags on the floor. “I brought the she-wolf in she’s in the room next door a nurse is checking her out.” He said quietly. “My mate.” I said, suddenly remembering that my mate wasn’t dead, and I needed answers. Where has she been all this time? What the hell is she doing working with Zane? I got up abruptly and followed the stuff to my mate. I paused at the door while the nurse checked her out. The nurse turned and looked at me strangely, probably because I was covered in Shawna's blood. “What can I do for you commander?" The nurse asked. nervously.

"Leave us.” I said not taking my eyes off my mate. The nurse nodded and left the room. I stood watching her. She looked the same as she looked the day, I met her. She had light brown curly hair and dark brown eyes. She was more toned than she was back then. She looked afraid as she stared at me. “Scarlett Where Have You been?" I asked keeping my distance so I wouldn't scare her.” I. I don’t know.” She answered crying softly. “Why the hell are you working with Zane?” I asked, confused as to why she didn't come back to the pack if she survived the war. I remember that day like it was yesterday.

“We need all the women and children escorted to the safe houses NOW!” The alpha yelled. We were under attack. “Shadow, I’ll go help the children get to the safe house, we’re closer to the school.” Scarlett said as she came forward and kissed me. I nodded and shifted. We tried to keep the fighting outside the borders, but they were just too many wolves, and our allies hadn’t made it yet. Once they reach our borders, they immediately started attacking the women, children, and elderly wolves. “Shadow we're surrounded, I have to get the pups to the safe house I will have to fight to distract them while the pups run to the safe house.

Scarlett said via mind link.

“No, no I'm coming don't you move scar just hold on.” I said as I finished off the wolf who thought he had a chance. “Alpha, I have to get to my mate she's trying to get some pups to the safe, but they’re surrounded.” “Alright go and get your mate and those pup to the safe house.” The alpha said via mind link. I raced to the school as fast as I could, but I was slowed down by wolves who attacked me. By the time I reached the school all I saw was my mate being held up by the throat and the wolf’s hand in her belly.

I felt the moment she died. Rane went berserk killing everything in sight I couldn’t control him because the pain of the bond breaking is like having your heart ripped out. After there was no wolves left to kill Rane ran into the forest. I can’t remember how long we were out there; we killed every rogue we came across. I thought we would have gotten killed or died from pain after a while, but it never happened, eventually Rane gave me back control and retreated to the back of my mind. He wasn’t feral nor a rogue, but we became shells of our former selves emotionless and dead inside. That was until we met.

Still staring at my mate, she seemed broken and battered. I wanted to hold her in my arms, but I couldn't. “I feel that you are my main, what is your name, and who is Scarlett?” She asked, confused. That's when it clicked that my mate doesn't remember us. It all made sense, which had to be how Zane was able to take advantage of her and use her to help him. I feel the mates’ bond, but it was something off and I can't quite put my finger on what it is. Maybe it was because she has no memory of me, or us. “My name is Shadow we were I mean we are mates. Do you not remember anything from your past?” I asked, finally moving close to her, sitting next to her. Shaking her head. All I remember is waking up in a pack clinic. My master took me in and took care of me.” she said softly.

“What did they tell you? Did they tell you anything about your past, your name, the name of your pack?” I asked and noticed that she was relaxing a bit and moving closer to me. Shaking her head again, “No they told me they didn’t know where I was from, they found me in a rogue’s camp. I was beaten and stabbed. They took me to a pack clinic and took care of me. I didn’t know my name, so I chose one for myself. My name is Shaid, they said I was mumbling that, while I was in a coma. I could never guess why I was mumbling that, but I guess it makes sense I was calling for you.” She said as she straddled my lap. Rane was happy about having our mate back.

Inhaling her scent was like finally being able to breathe again but something was off. I guessed because I didn’t immediately respond to her, she frowned. “Do you not want me? Are you going to reject me?” she asked, trying to get off my lap. “NO, NO! I just. it’s just that…” My words were cut short by the banging of the door opening hitting the wall, with three angry humans with a look in their eyes ready to kill. “I KNOW YOU FUCKING LYING! They said at the same damn time.
