Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 106

4 min 2 views

When they didn't see Sebastian's car at the intersection, Scarlett felt a strange tingling in her chest—a premonition that something wasn't right.

Knowing Sebastian was always punctual, she messaged him while Sylvia took a more direct approach, calling him immediately.

When there was no answer, Sylvia contacted her family's driver. "I'll call our driver. He probably got held up with something."

After arranging the ride, she turned to Scarlett, "Let's go back together. We're neighbors anyway."

"No, I'll wait for him," Scarlett replied, still typing. "My things are still in his car."

"That's no problem! Mr. Rogers can bring them tomorrow, or you can get them at the office. They won't get lost," Sylvia said dismissively.

Scarlett hesitated, realizing Sylvia had a point. When the Myers family driver arrived, she decided to go with Sylvia, but sent Sebastian a message explaining where she was going.

The new house felt empty with just Scarlett there. After showering, she sat in the second-floor living room in her bathrobe, watching television distractedly. Her phone remained silent beside her.

This was the first time Sebastian had disappeared without any message. She kept glancing at her phone, but the screen remained dark.

Finally, the phone rang. Scarlett immediately grabbed it, relaxing slightly when she saw it was Chris. "What's up?"

"Where are you?" Chris's voice sounded unusually deep.

"Skylake Road, number five." She turned down the TV volume.

The address made Chris frown. "How are you there? Sebastian... no, he's at number one. I thought number five wasn't—"

"Mr. George Howard heard I wanted to move out, so he had Sebastian buy me a house," Scarlett explained.

"A Skylake Road house? The Howard family certainly doesn't do things by halves," Chris remarked, then got straight to the point. "Are you still considering studying abroad?"

Scarlett was taken aback. Since Sebastian had caught them discussing it, Chris hadn't mentioned the subject again.

She asked him directly why he was bringing it up now.

Chris took a deep breath but didn't explain. "If you want to go, I can arrange it. You don't need to be afraid of Sebastian."

Scarlett's instincts told her something was wrong. "Has something happened?"

"No," Chris answered quickly. "I just think you're wasting yourself on him."

"Even if you like him, you shouldn't sacrifice yourself like this," he added, unable to hold back.

Scarlett froze. "Who said I liked him?"

Chris walked to his balcony to light a cigarette. "If you don't like him, how could you stay with him for five years?"

"That was because..." Scarlett's words caught in her throat. "I was using—"

Outside the second-floor glass door, Sebastian stood silently in his suit, his deep eyes reflecting the graceful figure on the sofa. The word "using" echoed in his mind, silently fueling his anger.

Chris fell silent at her words. "Oh Scar... you call this using him? What have you actually gained from him? If this is using him, then where was he when the Seymour family was mistreating you?"

His questions caught Scarlett off guard. She frowned, unconsciously curling into herself.

"Face your feelings. Though honestly, Sebastian doesn't deserve your devotion," Chris advised, taking a deep drag of his cigarette.

Scarlett remained silent. Chris seemed unusually agitated tonight.

They'd known each other for four years, and he'd known about her relationship with Sebastian from the beginning, but he'd never spoken so bluntly about them separating.

"Has something happened with Sebastian?" she asked, concern growing.

"No, nothing. Just think about it. I can wait a month for your decision about studying abroad," Chris replied, his voice even deeper than before.

"You're angry? I—" Before she could finish, a large hand took the phone from her.

She looked up, startled, to meet Sebastian's frost-filled eyes. "You're... you're back."

How much had he heard about the phone call?

Sebastian put the phone to his ear. "Mr. Wright."

"Ah, Mr. Howard, you've returned," Chris responded coldly.

"If you have any issues with me, you should say them to my face, not gossip behind my back to my woman," Sebastian said icily, unbuttoning his jacket with one hand.

Hearing Sebastian refer to her as "my woman," Scarlett's heart jumped. Maybe she wasn't just using him. Could she actually like him?

Chris laughed scornfully. "Your woman? Sebastian, you and Ade—"

Sebastian hung up before he could finish and tossed the phone aside.

Scarlett's eyes followed it briefly before returning to Sebastian as he moved closer.

"Where were you tonight?" she asked, backing away.

But trapped on the sofa, she had nowhere to go. She tried pushing against his chest, but the strength difference between them was too obvious.

Soon, Scarlett was pressed tightly against him, his heavy breathing in her ear.

"Just using me?" he asked with a derisive laugh.

Scarlett lowered her head, avoiding his breath. "Yes, just using you," she whispered.

Not acknowledging her feelings was her subconscious self-protection. As long as she didn't admit them, she wouldn't be hurt when they eventually parted.

Sebastian had always known Scarlett was stubborn, but he hadn't expected her to be this unyielding. He laughed angrily.

Hearing his laugh, Scarlett frowned and asked again, "Where were you tonight?"
