Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 213
"Please go back inside, Ms. Seymour. It's too cold out here," Finn said, making a sweeping gesture toward the room.
Scarlett knew it was just an excuse. The person who had just left couldn't have gone far—she could still faintly hear sounds coming from the elevator area. She merely glanced in that direction, but it was enough to make Finn step in front of her, his tone suddenly serious.
"Ms. Seymour! Please return to your room immediately!"
Scarlett looked away, taking in the security guards now completely surrounding her before fixing her gaze on Finn.
"Fine," she said with a sigh, repeating her earlier response.
Back in the hospital room, she found two more bodyguards waiting. They had clearly noticed the commotion and looked tense, assuming Scarlett might try to leave.
Scarlett didn't mind these particular guards. Of all the security personnel around her room, she preferred these two. They were from Seraphim and didn't speak English. Though they constantly babbled in a language she couldn't understand, Scarlett could sense their goodwill—a kind that felt almost familial, similar to Michael's attitude toward her.
She nodded gently to them. "I wasn't planning to leave. Don't worry."
The men started speaking again in incomprehensible Seraphine, but judging from their gestures, they seemed to be discussing what had happened outside.
Scarlett watched their animated gesturing with a puzzled expression.
After a while, it finally occurred to her that they all had phones with translation apps that could help them communicate. And so:
[Do you want to go outside? We can take you.]
Scarlett stared at this message on the screen, momentarily stunned. "I'm allowed to go out?" she asked instinctively.
The two Seraphim men looked even more confused by her question. [Why not? Marco and Jacob never said you couldn't leave.]
"Jacob?"
It was the first time she'd heard this name. Scarlett frowned, repeating it. The English and Seraphine pronunciations of the name differed, so the two men didn't explain her confusion, only tilting their heads slightly as they looked at her.
Though curious about Jacob, Scarlett focused on the possibility of going outside.
"I want to go out now."
She was still thinking about the man who had been speaking at the door. Whatever he knew about her background must be significant—otherwise Finn wouldn't have been so nervous. If she could get outside now, she might still catch him.
The two Seraphim men exchanged glances after hearing this, momentarily speechless.
Seeing their hesitation, Scarlett thought her hope was lost. The determination and light in her eyes dimmed as she lowered her gaze to hide her disappointment.
Suddenly, one of the men said something. Scarlett looked up as he extended his hand, pressed the voice translation button on his phone, and repeated what he'd just said.
Scarlett redirected her attention to the phone screen, where his words were being processed by the translation software.
[Okay, we can go out. Where do you want to go?]
The message made Scarlett's eyes light up again. She looked up to see the man who had spoken nodding at her, his eyes crinkled in a hearty smile.
But it was his eyes that caught her attention—amber-colored, not light, yet somehow reminding her of Sebastian.
Sebastian's image flashed through her mind only momentarily before her rational side suppressed it.
The two Seraphim men were already heading outside, and Scarlett quickly pocketed her phone to follow them.
However, just as they reached the doorway, Finn and his men blocked their path.
Finn's arm barred the door as his gaze swept over Scarlett before settling on the two Seraphim men in front. "What do you think you're doing?"
Though he spoke in English, his tone made himeself clear.
They pulled out their phones, attempting to use the translator.
Finn's obvious displeasure prompted them to mutter what sounded like complaints, but since they spoke Seraphine, Finn couldn't understand a word.
Still, their facial expressions made their feelings clear enough, causing Finn to furrow his brow and raise his voice with each response.
The argument quickly drew the attention of the floor security.
When they arrived, they found the patient's own bodyguards fighting among themselves, leaving them unsure whose side to take.
"What's going on here?"
As the guards continued their heated argument, a questioning voice came from the left corridor.
The voice wasn't loud, but it immediately silenced the two red-faced Seraphim men, who ducked their heads submissively.
This sudden change put Finn on alert.
Scarlett turned to see Marco approaching. His expression was neutral, seemingly calm, yet somehow conveying an authority that made it difficult to meet his gaze.
Finn had already turned and, upon seeing Marco, immediately lowered his head. "Mr. Russo."
Marco merely raised an eyebrow in acknowledgment of Finn's greeting.
His gaze lingered briefly on Scarlett's face before quickly shifting to his subordinates with bowed heads.
What followed was a conversation in Seraphine.
No one except the three speakers understood what was being said.
Soon enough, Marco finished speaking with his subordinates and turned back to Scarlett, his voice gentle. "Letty, you want to go for a walk?"
He had never shown any hostility toward Scarlett, yet for some reason, she always found herself instinctively on guard around him.
"I..." Before Scarlett could figure out how to respond, Marco spoke again.
"A walk would be good." This unexpected response made Scarlett's eyes brighten as she looked up in surprise. But her hope quickly faded with his next words: "However, now is not the time."
This was exactly what Scarlett had expected. She forced a smile tinged with self-mockery as she lowered her head.
Of course. This was normal.
How could someone being held in comfortable captivity truly expect freedom?
Her thoughts drifted as her gaze unconsciously moved toward the elevators.
Even if she could go out now, she probably wouldn't run into him anyway.
Perhaps because they hadn't met, the stranger's voice in her memory became increasingly vivid.
Scarlett closed her eyes briefly, repeatedly recalling that voice she'd never heard before, as if trying to commit it permanently to memory.
"The doctor will be here soon for your checkup. Let's go back inside," Marco said, gently patting Scarlett's shoulder, his voice still kind.
