Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 256
The package felt very light in her hands. Adeline was certain there were probably just a few sheets of paper inside.
But what would someone send her a few sheets of paper for?
After thinking it over, she decided to open the package.
Once opened, it was indeed as she'd expected—several sheets of paper. But some of them felt wrong to the touch. These sheets had a stiff texture that immediately told her they were photographs.
Adeline couldn't think of who would play a prank by sending her photos. She turned them over to look, and her eyes immediately narrowed.
She immediately dumped everything from the box onto the bed.
Several photos were scattered across the bed. Some flipped over during the fall, landing face-up, and that devastatingly beautiful face appeared right before Adeline's eyes, bright and clear.
Adeline's breathing caught in her throat. Her fingertips ground viciously against the clearest photo on the bed—Scarlett wearing a silk robe, curled up on a soft wool carpet, reading a book.
Even though it was just a photograph, the small portion of the room background visible behind her and the bone china teacup at her side displayed her wealthy lifestyle to the fullest extent.
The other photos almost served as evidence for this point.
Busy servants in the kitchen, and layers upon layers of bodyguards—everything demonstrated Sebastian's level of care for Scarlett.
"Scarlett Seymour..." She gritted her teeth as she spoke the name, her voice wrapped in venomous coldness, her fingertips gripping so hard they left deep creases in the photo.
Scarlett's beautiful, downcast features became distorted in her hands.
The edges of the photo paper cut painfully into Adeline's palm, but she didn't notice at all.
Jealousy and resentment had completely consumed her heart.
Every photo scattered on the bed was feeding Adeline's inner obsession—why! Why could Scarlett, this illegitimate child, have all this! Those things should have been hers! The life Sebastian had promised her!
Adeline suddenly stood up, frantically tearing at the photos in her hands until she had destroyed them all. Only then did she collapse, breathing heavily, her eyes bloodshot.
Why was she the one in this nursing home?
Adeline couldn't understand. She covered her face and cried. If Scarlett had never existed from the beginning, she would definitely be living happily with Sebastian by now!
Time passed minute by minute.
The sunlight streaming through the window gradually faded. Only then did Adeline slowly lift her head, her swollen red eyes filled with unwillingness and anger. From the corner of her eye, she glanced at the fragments on the bed, her gaze vicious.
It was this glance that made her notice something wrong.
Among all the photo fragments, there was a neatly folded note hidden among them.
The note had a tear mark, but because it had been specially treated, it had ultimately withstood Adeline's frenzied revenge.
Realizing that these photos had been deliberately sent by someone, Adeline sniffled and immediately crawled over to grab the note. Unfolding it, she saw a string of numbers written on it, with a line of English below.
[Want to vent? Then tell her what you've seen and heard.]
Adeline gripped the note, completely stunned in place. Her heart was racing, but not from fear or shock—only from pure excitement.
"So even God is helping me!"
She sighed with emotion, instantly understanding the intention of whoever was behind this.
But today wasn't phone time. No matter how excited she was, Adeline could only wait patiently.
She put the note close to her body in her pocket and swept all the fragments on the bed into the trash can.
"Hmph, just wait, Scarlett. I'm going to send you straight to hell!"
...
Scarlett heard the commotion downstairs early in the morning.
Marco's voice was the loudest—he was saying something in Seraphine. Though she couldn't understand it, she could tell he was currently furious.
Scarlett really couldn't concentrate on reading, so she could only lie by the window and look down. With this look, she was instantly stunned.
She saw a group of black-clad bodyguards escorting a red-haired man on the driveway outside the villa.
She couldn't make out his features from upstairs, but Scarlett instinctively thought of Benjamin. Her heart tightened, and she hurried downstairs.
"Ms. Seymour."
Just as she ran down to the first floor, Scarlett was stopped by Libbie coming out of the kitchen.
Seeing her panicked expression, Libbie became nervous too. "What's wrong?"
Scarlett looked outside, where those people were pushing the red-haired man into a car. She was anxious. "Is that Benjamin Cooper?"
Libbie didn't know who Benjamin was. Hearing this question, she instinctively made a sound of confusion.
Just then, Teddy came in from outside.
Hearing the question, he looked up with some scrutiny in his eyes, then exhaled. "That's not Benjamin Cooper, Ms. Seymour."
But his explanation wasn't enough to calm Scarlett down.
She knew Sebastian always liked to hide things from her. "Let me see him."
As soon as she finished speaking, the sound of a car starting came from outside. The next second, the car holding the red-haired man had already left the street.
Teddy's gaze followed for a distance before he turned back to look at the stunned Scarlett, his tone showing no apology. "Sorry, Ms. Seymour. He's already gone."
Scarlett frowned, staring at him coldly.
The atmosphere froze for a moment.
"Ms. Seymour..." Libbie spoke carefully from the side.
Just then, the front door was opened again, and a voice filled with laughter came from the entrance.
"What's wrong?"
It was Marco coming in.
Seeing him, Scarlett immediately spoke up. "Mr. Russo, I want to see that man from just now."
"Why?" Marco was genuinely surprised. By all logic, Scarlett shouldn't know that person at all. Why would she suddenly ask to see him?
Teddy spoke calmly. "She thought that person was Benjamin Cooper."
"Oh, Benjamin." Marco understood and walked over, pulling up the photo he'd just taken. "Take a look. Though he does look somewhat similar, he's definitely not that unlucky guy."
Scarlett had thought her request would be ignored again, but she didn't expect him to show no concealment at all, directly presenting the photo before her eyes.
She still had difficulty distinguishing foreign faces, but she could see several subtle differences.
The guy who'd been punched in the photo was indeed not Benjamin, though he had the same red hair and green eyes.
Scarlett breathed a sigh of relief, her tone becoming gentler. "Then who is he?"
Marco shrugged. "Who knows?"
He put away his phone and walked over to sit on the sofa, his voice carrying laughter.
"Maybe some paparazzi who thought a big star lived here."
This wasn't entirely baseless.
Their group had suddenly moved in a while ago, bringing many bodyguards with them, which would indeed arouse quite a bit of curiosity.
Scarlett thought about it and agreed with Marco's guess, but frowned slightly. "Was it necessary to hit him?"
"That was just my speculation, Letty." Marco smiled, though somewhat helplessly. "But don't worry, my people have already taken him to see the police. In a few days, everything will come to light."
