Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 299
Scarlett 'd assumed that after saying that, the Black girl would sit down and have a proper conversation with her. But what Scarlett didn't expect was that the moment those words left her mouth, the girl's expression completely changed.
"You're lying to me! You're lying!"
The Black girl suddenly lunged at her. She pinned Scarlett down hard, hands wrapped around her throat, voice raspy and low.
"Why do you want to leave me? Why? We're supposed to be together!"
Scarlett started coughing violently. She frantically slapped at the girl's hands, hoping she'd let go.
But that gentle approach was completely useless.
Left with no choice, desperate to survive, Scarlett forced the words out. "I... I won't leave you."
Those words acted like a switch. Instantly, Ayana went quiet. The hands choking Scarlett's throat slowly loosened.
The moment she could breathe freely again, Scarlett immediately scrambled backward, palm pressed to her throat. She wanted to say something, but could only cough.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." The apology came quickly, and another cup of warm water was immediately offered.
Scarlett really didn't want to drink anything this woman handed her, but her throat was dry and aching. Almost instinctively, she took a sip from the cup.
At least the water seemed fine.
She only dared take one sip before looking around to observe her surroundings. Based on the furnishings, this had to be a private plane.
Though it was small, not even a fifth the size of Marco's.
Scarlett clutched the blanket around her, her voice hoarse from the recent attack. "Where are we going?"
She had no desire to trigger a second personality in this woman, so she chose her words carefully.
"Back to Eldoria. You promised you'd come meet my parents with me, remember?" Ayana frowned. As she spoke, she moved closer, her tone dropping low at the end. "Or were you lying to me again?"
Scarlett used every ounce of self-control to keep from frowning. What kind of troublesome, clingy mess had Adeline gotten herself tangled up with?
"I'm not lying. Let's go to Eldoria then." Knowing she couldn't escape right now, Scarlett could only go along with Ayana's thinking.
The flight from Virella Island to Eldoria would take twelve hours.
During that time, Scarlett had nowhere to go. She couldn't do anything—after all, if she provoked Ayana, she might actually get strangled to death.
"Thirteen minutes ago, a private plane took off."
Back on the ground, someone finally came to report the first useful news all day.
"Whose plane? Where's it headed?" Sebastian immediately pressed. They might have money and power, but they couldn't stop public transportation from operating. Even with private planes, all they could do was track them.
"A plane belonging to Ms. Ayana Lee. Destination is Solvane City, Eldoria." The messenger came prepared. The second Sebastian finished asking, the answer came.
Hearing that name, Sebastian instantly felt hopeful. After all, according to their investigation, Ayana had landed on Virella Island specifically to pick up Adeline.
But now Adeline was posing as Scarlett on Virella Island, which meant Scarlett could only be posing as Adeline on that plane bound for Eldoria.
"We can't catch up. Have her cousin take people there instead."
Marco frowned. After calculating the timing, that was the only solution he could offer.
Private planes might not face traffic delays, but everything in the air had to follow air traffic control instructions.
Even if he arranged for a private plane, the earliest it could leave would be in an hour. By the time they caught up, the women would be long gone.
So Michael in Eldoria received Sebastian's call.
After sessions with a therapist and medication adjustments, Michael's condition had improved considerably. So when he learned Scarlett's situation was critical, Michael didn't hesitate for a second. He immediately contacted his former subordinates in Eldoria and rushed together toward Solvane City.
Meanwhile, Shane, Sebastian, and Marco began filing international lawsuits against Hans for financial crimes, submitting their collected evidence to the international court.
Going after a former president of Thalassia Federal Bank wasn't easy—but he'd swallowed assets from more than one family. The moment the international lawsuit was filed, victim families immediately joined in with their own suits.
On the domestic front, Shawn finally learned Neville's real name from Sebastian. Using the name Neville Bebile, he dug up direct evidence of the man bribing officials. And during the evidence collection process, something interesting happened.
In Clinton's case, blood spatter had been found at the scene all those years ago. Based on the spray pattern, the wound had likely been near an artery.
But they'd never found a second body. And with someone inside the police department cleaning up that mess, where that body had gone remained unknown.
Rosalia, after quickly packing, still boarded the plane to Eldoria.
Scarlett had planned to find an opportunity to escape when they landed, but she hadn't expected Ayana's family to send bodyguards—three massive Black men.
She looked up at them and immediately understood how slim her chances of escape were.
But at least they were Black.
As bodyguards, they cut extremely intimidating figures—especially with that obviously uncomfortable-looking Lumaria girl in the middle of their group.
So some concerned airport citizens immediately notified the airport patrol officers.
"I've got an underage girl being held by four Black people!" The caller's voice was tense, occasionally glancing up at that odd combination in the distance.
Police arrived within two minutes.
Ayana's group seemed completely accustomed to being questioned. When the officers approached, all three bodyguards simultaneously whipped out their credentials.
Another officer was questioning Scarlett, but she seemed distracted, as if something in the distance had caught her attention.
"Don't be afraid, sweetheart. If you're in any danger, we'll help you." The officer was still talking when the girl in front of him suddenly raised her hand and pointed into the distance.
The officer followed her finger. A man in a wheelchair was heading their way.
"That's my cousin!" Scarlett immediately got excited. After telling the officer, she immediately took off running toward Michael!
Seeing her run, Ayana instantly panicked. "Grab her!"
In her urgency, Ayana had used the wrong word. That single "grab" made the two officers who'd been about to chase Scarlett immediately stop and turn to restrain Ayana instead!
"What are you doing?" Ayana immediately struggled.
Her bodyguards tried to intervene, but the officers drew their weapons and forced them back. "Sir, step back!"
While the atmosphere on that side was tense as a standoff, Scarlett's side was considerably warmer.
"Michael!"
Scarlett, who hadn't seen Michael in so long, immediately burst into tears.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" Michael grabbed her and looked her up and down, the worry in his eyes clearly genuine.
