Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 275
Sebastian nodded.
Nearby, the flight attendant brought over the decanted red wine and two glasses.
During her service, both men tactfully stopped their conversation, watching the translucent red liquid slowly pour into the glasses.
With simple, practiced movements, the attendant perfectly placed the stemmed glasses before both men.
The attendant also noticed the two had stopped talking. She clearly understood she'd entered a relatively closed conversation environment. After finishing, she stood without hesitation and left immediately, worried that staying even a second longer might mean hearing something she shouldn't.
Only after the cabin held just Marco and Sebastian did their conversation resume.
They continued in Seraphine, just like before.
This was a habit between uncle and nephew. Unless outsiders were present, you'd rarely hear them communicate in any other language.
"How'd she even get connected with Mondo Lee?" After a sip of wine, Marco's brow remained furrowed. The crisp liquid slid down his throat, but couldn't wash away the irritation in his chest.
He'd had dealings with Mondo back in the day. That old bastard was no simple character.
Mondo had made his start in Southeast Asia—a Black kid who'd smuggled himself over from Africa to work, then managed to grab onto the rubber industry and roll himself all the way to Eldoria to make it big.
That took serious skill.
So hearing the Lee family was involved made Marco's expression darken.
"Mondo's not Adeline's backer." Seeing Marco's furrowed brow, Sebastian spoke calmly to reassure him. Then, just as Marco's expression eased, he dropped the bombshell. "Her backer is Ayana. One of Mondo's granddaughters."
Marco took another sip of wine. This time, the liquid actually brought some relief.
"Ah. I remember he's got a granddaughter with a violent temper disorder. Must be this Ayana." He set down his glass, his mood improving as he lightly tapped the rim.
Sebastian nodded. "They left tonight."
That made Marco's head snap up, his eyes flashing cold. "You're absolutely sure no one was told about Letty leaving?"
Sebastian spread his hands. "You saw it yourself. Who would I even tell?"
This trip abroad, he hadn't even brought Mark. Personnel-wise, besides Teddy and Libbie, he could only rely on Marco.
That was definitely his weakness. Who told the Howard family not to aggressively develop overseas operations?
Hearing this, Marco's gaze darkened, his fingers lightly stroking his chin.
"The leak shouldn't be from this side. But once Benjamin and his friend arrive, word will probably get out. I think she might show up then."
Sebastian could tell what Marco was thinking just by looking at his expression. His tone paused slightly as he analyzed.
Marco glanced out the window. The shade hadn't been lowered—he could clearly see the entire tarmac outside.
This was a small private airfield, its sole purpose to accommodate the wealthy's private jets.
When no rich folks were using it, only essential maintenance staff remained.
But when the wealthy did use it, workers of all types would pour out from every corner of the tarmac.
Those people worried Marco the most.
They weren't Russo family people. Hell, a good number were temps. The aviation company guaranteed security, but he sure as hell didn't trust that.
If something happened to this flight, he wouldn't even know how to face his sister in heaven.
Marco raised his wrist to check his watch.
Only ten minutes had passed since they'd boarded. His conversation with Sebastian had lasted maybe five minutes.
"Uncle Marco, don't worry. It'll be fine." Compared to Marco's anxiety, Sebastian appeared much more relaxed. He gently swirled his glass, took a delicate sip, his tone calm. "I think you should have more faith in yourself."
Sebastian knew perfectly well that Marco had handled this entire return trip. Given his cautious personality, nothing would go wrong.
"Save the reassurances. I do have faith in myself."
Marco caught his meaning and laughed, then took another sip of wine.
After that, neither said much more, just quietly drinking, as if that could actually relieve the pressure.
...
Eldoria, Solvane City.
Inside a four-story villa, Adeline lay sprawled on the sofa watching TV. Eldoria's television channels didn't offer much variety, so flipping through them just meant cycling through the same programs she'd already seen.
Behind her, the sound of a door opening.
Adeline didn't turn around, just mechanically pressed buttons on the remote.
"Sweetheart."
Ayana's voice called out.
Hearing that voice, Adeline's mouth turned down slightly—not much, and she quickly recovered.
She felt Ayana approaching, lifted her head slightly to let her kiss her forehead, her tone flat. "Did you find anything?"
Ayana set the snacks she'd brought on the nearby table, then came back to hold Adeline. "Sweetheart, won't you even ask how I am?"
Only then did Adeline shift her gaze from the TV to her.
But she only looked for a second before turning back. "What's wrong with you? You look fine."
Being treated so coldly and dismissively, Ayana felt unhappy, but she still didn't lash out at Adeline. She just threw herself into the sofa nearby.
"Didn't find much. Who exactly is this Scarlett Seymour to you? Your ex-girlfriend?"
Her tone was unfriendly, dripping with obvious jealousy.
Adeline propped her head up, immediately objecting without thinking. "What ex-girlfriend! She's not! She's—"
She'd reflexively been about to say Scarlett was her romantic rival, but remembering she was supposed to be playing a lesbian now, she snapped her mouth shut just in time.
But that slip still caught Ayana's curiosity.
She immediately sat up straight, eyes narrowed at Adeline. "You had me investigate where your ex-girlfriend is?"
Hearing the unfriendly tone, Adeline immediately looked over—but not to beg forgiveness. She glared back instead. "I told you she's not my ex! She's my enemy!"
Adeline's hostility toward Scarlett had never been disguised.
Back home, facing those socialites, she might have covered it up, packaging herself as an innocent victim.
But now she didn't need to.
In front of Ayana, who obeyed her every word, Adeline didn't hide her true feelings about Scarlett at all.
And Ayana, picking up on this, still looked dissatisfied but smiled anyway. "Alright, alright. Your enemy. Want to kill her?"
Adeline thought of the phone call she'd received earlier. Her eyes flashed, the corner of her mouth curving up slightly. "No need. I just want to ask her some things. No need to kill her at all."
Hearing that, Ayana nodded too. She smiled and moved closer to Adeline.
"Adeline, we didn't figure out exactly where in Vesperia she is, but I've arranged a private jet. How about we head to Vesperia tomorrow?"
Adeline hadn't expected Ayana to move so quickly. Her eyes lit up. "Sure, let's go then."
She was happy. But her eyes narrowed slightly, hiding the viciousness within.
