Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 88

However, hearing Sebastian's tone, Irene thought he probably didn't care. With this in mind, though still uncertain, she couldn't help listing all of Scarlett's alleged misdeeds.

"Mr. Howard, you don't understand. I have a young daughter who went out for dinner with this tramp a few days ago. The very next day, she went insane! She recognizes no one, screaming that she wants to jump from buildings and kill herself!"

She gestured wildly as she spoke, as if she had personally witnessed Scarlett causing harm.

Scarlett was experiencing a ringing in her ears and couldn't hear clearly. Even her vision had taken on a reddish tint. She swayed unsteadily, nearly collapsing again.

Mark watched anxiously, his heart in his throat. Yet Sebastian remained standing at the entrance. His hand tightened slightly as he listened to Irene's accusations against Scarlett, his face expressionless.

"It sounds Scarlett is indeed guilty of heinous crimes," he commented flatly.

Edith couldn't help but laugh at this. Her laughter drew Sebastian's sidelong glance. She tried to compose herself but couldn't quite stop smiling.

Sebastian's gaze swept over her face before landing on Scarlett, who was clearly struggling to stand. His eyes darkened. "The engagement banquet is coming soon. I don't want the Seymour family to have a funeral on their hands."

This immediately alerted Edith, who gasped and quickly summoned servants to tend to Scarlett's wounds.

But how could Scarlett, who had just endured such humiliation, accept the Seymour family's hypocritical kindness?

She staggered away from the servants' hands and made her way step by step toward the door.

"Seb, move aside! Don't get blood on you! It's so dirty!" Edith exclaimed as she saw Scarlett approach, pulling Sebastian's arm to clear a path.

But the Seymour Villa's entrance was wide enough for several people to pass through simultaneously. This blatant disgust was nothing short of bullying Scarlett in plain sight.

Sebastian pulled his arm away, frowning slightly. "Aren't you her older sister?"

Edith's expression of disgust froze as she stammered, "I just didn't want you to be repulsed."

Scarlett walked past Sebastian without pausing. Mark had been watching her closely. When he finally got a clear look at her face beneath her hair, his pupils dilated.

"Seb, I'm so sorry you had to see this scene..." Edith's voice faded as Scarlett walked step by step out of the Seymour Villa's main gate.

Scarlett's chest felt tight, both cheeks burned with pain, and even her abdomen, which had just recovered, began to ache again.

She hadn't gone far when the dizziness in her head made it impossible to continue. Leaning against a wall, she slowly crouched down, gently burying her face between her knees.

As the lightheadedness intensified, she sat down completely.

Her nosebleed had stopped, but the metallic taste of blood in her mouth remained. She didn't even dare to swallow, fearing the nauseating taste of blood.

This was a winding downhill road. On both sides stood villas with high walls draped with climbing roses and vines. She sat huddled behind these flowers that nearly touched the ground.

Cars passed by occasionally. After some time, her phone rang in her bag. Scarlett heard it but lacked the strength to answer. She felt sleepy, her head spinning terribly.

Though not fully conscious, Scarlett could still recall Sebastian's words.

What heinous crimes? Scarlett couldn't understand why everything was being blamed on her. Was it just because she was an illegitimate child?

The phone rang for a while, then went silent. Scarlett's throbbing head could finally rest.

The surroundings were quiet, with almost no harsh sounds, which felt soothing to her. She gradually drifted off to sleep.

Some time later, a large hand touched her head, then gently laid her down. The sudden change in position made Scarlett frown, mumbling groggily about feeling sick.

After searching for nearly half an hour, Mark had finally found Scarlett. Wiping sweat from his brow, he watched nervously as Sebastian carried her to the car.

Earlier, Mark hadn't seen clearly, but now with her hair pushed back, he could see the extent of Scarlett's injuries. He had thought they weren't serious, but now realized Irene had been truly vicious.

Irene had long nails that had raked across Scarlett's delicate skin repeatedly, breaking the skin and drawing blood.

Her small face was now swollen on both sides, though the right was worse—likely due to the rhinestones on that woman's manicure.

Sebastian's expression was dark as he carried her. He carefully placed a towel-wrapped ice pack against Scarlett's cheek, which quickly made her whimper in pain.

Hearing the sounds from the back seat, Mark floored the accelerator.

The doctors at Evercrest Memorial Hospital were shocked that a patient discharged just that morning had returned within three hours with severe injuries.

"Sebastian, what's going on here? Didn't you listen to what I told you last time?" The doctor couldn't help but pull Sebastian into his office for a private conversation.

Sebastian sat on the leather sofa, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I did listen."

"And yet this happens? That drug already affects the nervous system, and now she has head trauma. Such a young, beautiful girl—is this how you intend to mistreat her?"

The doctor, also from a prestigious family and on good terms with Sebastian, spoke without restraint. Sebastian looked at him calmly, a single glance enough to silence his friend.

"Will it scar?" he asked.

"Depends. With proper care, there won't be scars. But if it's handled like this time, scarring will be the least of your worries—her face could be permanently disfigured!" the doctor replied irritably.

Sebastian stood to leave. "Understood."

In the hospital room, nurses were applying medication to Scarlett. When they finished, they noticed Sebastian waiting at the door.

"Mr. Howard," the nurses greeted him.

He sat by the bed, looking at Scarlett, who was frowning and whimpering despite the ointment on her cheeks. He coldly gestured for everyone to leave.

Shortly after the nurses left, Mark entered. "Mr. Howard, Ms. Edith Seymour is calling..."

"Get out." Before he could finish, Sebastian, resting with his eyes closed on the sofa, coldly interrupted.

Mark immediately fell silent. Before leaving, he glanced at Scarlett lying on the hospital bed.

Whether from the painkillers taking effect or the worst pain having passed, she now lay quietly, her breathing shallow.

When Scarlett woke up, a full day had passed. As she regained consciousness, she heard keyboard tapping nearby.

In her confusion, she thought she had fallen asleep at work and tried to get up quickly. But as soon as she moved, her head throbbed with pain.

When she opened her mouth to cry out, her lips hurt too. Trying to inhale sharply only made her realize her cheeks were also painful.

With everything hurting at once, Scarlett immediately lay back down. The keyboard tapping stopped. Then Sebastian's face appeared above her.

He leaned in, checking her forehead with his hand. "Do you feel nauseous?"

The moment she saw him, Scarlett remembered why she was injured. Her heart sank, and she turned away, not wanting to answer or look at him.

Having anticipated this reaction, Sebastian raised an eyebrow slightly and delivered shocking news: "Adele is dead."
