Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 200

Staring into those eyes, Scarlett couldn't help but feel a chill run down her spine. She instinctively shrank back.

Sebastian lowered his gaze. When he looked up again, his eyes still had those bloodshot streaks, but the hatred had vanished, replaced by complex emotions Scarlett couldn't decipher.

"Is that what she told you?" His voice was low, wrapped in feelings too murky to identify.

Thinking he didn't believe her, Scarlett immediately straightened her neck defiantly. She leaned back, avoiding Sebastian's palm. "Yes, that's exactly what she said!"

A flash of hatred crossed Sebastian's eyes before he looked back at Scarlett, his stern face showing resignation. "And you just believed her?"

Seeing his reaction, Scarlett hesitated, then frowned. "What do you mean?"

"Whatever she says is true?" Sebastian's gaze lingered on her face for a moment. His Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed, his voice even more resigned than before. "How long have you even known her? Why trust her so completely?"

Scarlett frowned, her eyes fixed on Sebastian's face. Her voice was clear but weighted with something indefinable. "You're getting married to her."

If anyone else had told her these things, she probably wouldn't have listened to a word. But it was Adeline—a woman about to marry Sebastian.

Hearing this, Sebastian closed his eyes briefly, recalling the rumors that had indeed circulated in Sovereign City. "That's not true."

The rumor, denied by the subject himself. Scarlett paused, her eyes shifting slightly, unsure whether to believe Sebastian's words.

Seeing her expression, Sebastian immediately understood what she was thinking and sighed softly. "You don't believe me?"

Scarlett didn't answer, but silently complained to herself: 'Who knows if he's just saying this to make me have the baby?'

"I'm not trying to trick you," Sebastian said wearily, raising his hand to rub his forehead, his emotions settling somewhat.

Surprised that Sebastian had answered her unspoken thought, Scarlett looked startled. She blinked and shut her mouth tight, thinking she must have accidentally spoken aloud.

"I'm telling you the truth," Sebastian emphasized again.

Scarlett remained silent, still avoiding Sebastian's gaze. Seeing her like this, Sebastian didn't push further. He stood up, smoothing the wrinkles in his suit. "I won't marry her. Our child won't be given to her, and certainly won't be born illegitimate."

When he finished speaking, his gaze settled on Scarlett, his eyes deep and full of suggestion. "You'll understand, Letty. You're smart."

Scarlett stared at him, her heart feeling as if something had gently bumped against it—a tingling, almost itchy sensation. The feeling wasn't exactly comfortable, but it wasn't unpleasant either. It was enough to muddle her thoughts.

Sebastian's gaze was so intense, holding that "you're smart" like a precious offering. It nearly pulled her under, making the doubts in her heart loosen their grip. She opened her mouth, wanting to ask what exactly she was supposed to understand, but the answer seemed obvious—she just didn't want to believe it.

Yet the sincerity in Sebastian's eyes made her heart contract slightly. Her fingertips fidgeted with the edge of the mattress. That sincerity couldn't be fake; Sebastian was telling the truth. Still, Adeline's words were like a needle stuck in her heart, making it impossible to fully let go.

Sebastian watched her hesitation, understanding from his knowledge of her what she wanted to ask. He didn't elaborate, only raising his hand to brush from her cheek to her chin. "Don't overthink it. Rest well."

The warm touch made Scarlett's whole body tense. She instinctively tried to dodge, but Sebastian was faster, his hand pressing against the back of her neck. His breath fell on her ear, carrying the crisp scent of cedar. "I want both you and the baby."

Those words, almost like a vow, made Scarlett's fingertips tremble.

Sebastian quickly left the hospital room. The two seemed to have reached a temporary truce. Lying in the hospital bed, Scarlett replayed Sebastian's words, her heart buzzing with anticipation. But her rational mind warned her not to show this hope too openly.

Outside the hospital room, Sebastian had just stepped out when he met Shane's curious gaze. The face that had been somewhat animated with Scarlett was now cold as ice. "Speak if you have something to say. If not, get lost."

Seeing his ruthlessness, Shane shrugged. "We've been friends for years. Is this really necessary?"

"If I remember correctly, we ended our friendship six years ago," Sebastian reminded him, not looking up as he texted Teddy.

Shane raised an eyebrow. "Yet you still recruited me? Aren't you afraid I'll defect to the other side?"

Having finished his message, Sebastian finally looked at Shane. "Do what you want. It's just one bullet away."

Shane snorted, shaking his head, about to speak when he spotted Marco and others approaching. He immediately dropped his teasing expression and spoke respectfully, "Mr. Russo."

Marco noticed Shane's politeness but couldn't bring himself to like the man. As a man of power, allowing someone to escape from under his nose seemed utterly unreliable. But Marco was a mature middle-aged man, so he smiled pleasantly at Shane. "Mr. Wright, I've heard much about you."

He spoke with a pure Lumarian accent. This genuinely surprised Shane. He paused before responding, "Your English is excellent."

"All thanks to my poor sister," Marco said, then waved his hand. "Let's not talk about her—it's too heartbreaking."

And so the topic shifted. "How is she?" Marco asked, and everyone understood who he meant.

Sebastian looked in the direction Marco was pointing. The hospital room door was closed, and from this angle, they couldn't see inside. "Doing alright. She's awake now."

Shane suddenly recalled the scene he'd secretly witnessed earlier and felt like laughing, but catching sight of Sebastian and Marco in his peripheral vision, he quickly suppressed his amusement.

"And the baby?" Marco's expression was tense. As the head of the Seraphim mafia family, he had a strong smoking habit, but thinking of the pregnant woman in the hospital room, he forced himself to resist. "I heard she ingested some drugs."

At the mention of this, Sebastian also felt a headache coming on. But he maintained his composure perfectly on the surface. "The doctor says she needs to be monitored. She'll have to stay in the hospital for now."

"Then this room isn't good enough," Marco immediately said. Though he hadn't gone inside, he had looked through the glass. Just one room with a pathetically small bed—how could that be suitable?

"We're already arranging for a room change," Shane quickly added.

Marco nodded at this. "I'll leave some of my men here as well."

The group was so focused on their discussion that no one noticed the hospital room door slowly opening behind them. However, while they didn't notice, Finn did. He immediately walked over. "Ms. Seymour, is there something you need?"

This instantly drew the attention of the three men. Scarlett suddenly found herself making eye contact with four men, momentarily stunned. She then self-consciously grabbed the hem of her gown. "I-I just need to use the restroom."
