Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 179
Despite their vigilance, Mark never expected things would still go wrong.
At 11:30 PM Lumaria time, a satellite call came through to Number 1 Skylake Road.
"Ms. Seymour is bleeding!"
It was Libbie on the phone, her voice panicked and on the verge of tears.
Mark had been about to finish his shift, but hearing this news, he instantly snapped to alertness. Forgetting his plans to leave, he leapt up and rushed toward the wine area adjacent to the living room.
His commotion immediately caught Sebastian's attention.
"What happened?"
Mark's frantic, disorganized footsteps already indicated the severity of the situation.
A thread of unease spread through Sebastian's heart, though he didn't show it. His tone remained steady—so steady that when Mark heard his question, he instinctively regulated his own breathing to achieve optimal composure.
However, when Mark thought about the news he needed to report, his throat tightened and dried up, causing him to stutter.
"Mr. Howard, Ms. Seymour, she..."
"What about her?" Sebastian gripped his wine glass tightly. The cold glass seeped into his palm but failed to suppress the panic rising from within.
For the first time, urgency spilled into his typically unruffled voice. He leaned forward slightly, his gaze fixed intently on Mark's face, his very breath slowing for a moment.
"She's bleeding." The answer spilled from Mark's lips, bringing him momentary relief. Taking advantage of this brief respite, he quickly repeated, "Ms. Seymour is bleeding!"
Sebastian's grip on his glass weakened, and it crashed onto the solid wood of the bar counter. Amber liquid spilled out, slowly flowing along the wood grain as the rich aroma of brandy instantly permeated the air.
Ignoring the mess before him, he stood up, knocking over the leather barstool behind him. "When did this happen? Where are they now?"
"Over Austrennia!" Mark answered quickly, following Sebastian as he moved through the villa.
Sebastian didn't know where to go—Scarlett was in the skies above Austrennia, completely beyond his reach. Yet his heart raced with anxiety, causing him to pace aimlessly.
"Have they landed?" He could hear the tremor in his own voice as he pressed his clenched fist against his lips, struggling to maintain basic composure.
Mark's voice was equally tight and shaky. "No. The accompanying doctor administered pregnancy-preserving injections. They're monitoring the effect now."
"Contact all nearby airfields. Make sure they can land at any time." Sebastian walked to the living room and sat on the sofa, his interlocked hands supporting his chin. His tone had regained its steadiness.
Mark nodded immediately.
---
On the plane, Scarlett had been sleeping peacefully. Initially, there were no problems, but toward the early morning hours, she began to moan in pain.
The sound instantly woke Libbie, who was sleeping nearby. She immediately rolled out of bed to check on Scarlett's condition.
What she saw made her face drain of color.
Scarlett was clutching her stomach, her head buried deep in the blankets, and beneath her, spots of blood had begun to appear.
"Ms. Seymour, Ms. Seymour?" Libbie called out while pressing the room's emergency call button.
The private physician entered immediately and made a rapid diagnosis, "The pregnancy is unstable. The maintenance injections aren't working. We need to land and provide proper bed rest."
Teddy, who had just arrived, turned and left as soon as he heard this.
In less than half a minute, he returned.
"We'll land at Castrovella City Crossfield Airport in five minutes. Get ready."
Based on Scarlett's condition, the doctor administered another pregnancy-preserving injection.
"It hurts..." Scarlett cried out in pain. Even before she could open her eyes, tears were already streaming down her face.
Libbie immediately moved to hold her hand. "It's alright, it's alright, Ms. Seymour. I'm here, I'm right here."
"Libbie..." Scarlett turned her head toward Libbie's voice, tears flowing more freely as her voice filled with distress and sadness. "I don't want to have this baby... I..."
'I don't want to be a surrogate.'
She didn't speak the last half of the sentence. As her emotions grew increasingly agitated, the private physician, after careful assessment, decided to administer a mild sedative.
Libbie wiped her tears with one hand. "What's happening? Why doesn't our Ms. Seymour want this baby anymore?"
Being over fifty and having served the Howard family for so long, Libbie was no fool.
She spoke through gritted teeth, wishing she could tear apart whoever was behind this.
No one responded to her question—such matters were impossible to investigate at the moment. Rather than focusing on something they couldn't determine, everyone was more concerned with ensuring Scarlett could hold on until they landed and reached a hospital.
Meanwhile, back in Lumaria, Sebastian had already begun his investigation.
Learning that Scarlett would be landing in northern Seraphim rather than the originally planned southern region did nothing to improve his mood.
He sat with Mark in the living room. After they had both smoked a cigarette, Sebastian finally spoke.
"Find out if anything unusual happened after she boarded the plane today."
Scarlett had undergone prenatal examinations just days before. Although the crab she had eaten early in her pregnancy had some impact, subsequent care had minimized those effects.
Yet today she was suddenly bleeding, severely enough to require an emergency landing to save the pregnancy.
This didn't seem normal by any measure.
After speaking, Sebastian lit another cigarette. In just these few hours, he seemed to have made up for all the cigarettes he had quit during the previous period.
"Yes, Mr. Howard." Mark nodded and immediately contacted Teddy.
A few minutes later, he returned with new information.
"Ms. Seymour woke up once during the flight and made two satellite calls," Mark reported, pausing briefly before continuing. "One to Chris, and one to you."
Mark spoke the last sentence very slowly.
His meaning was clear. It wasn't that Mark subconsciously believed Sebastian had upset Scarlett, but rather that he had been with Sebastian almost the entire time and hadn't seen him receive any call from her.
Sebastian's hand paused mid-flick as he was tapping ash from his cigarette. "Which phone?"
"Your private phone." Mark moistened his lips, his eyes flashing with realization. "The one you keep in your study."
Hearing this, Sebastian immediately understood.
From this afternoon until now, only one person had entered his study: Adeline.
Mark clearly understood this as well, his expression turning strange. He hadn't expected Adeline to target Scarlett, especially using such despicable methods.
Though he now knew the cause of Scarlett's bleeding, it would be nearly impossible to hold Adeline accountable.
After all, who would believe that mere words could agitate someone enough to cause a miscarriage?
"Take care of it," Sebastian's voice was ice-cold, weighted with a heavy chill.
Mark nodded, unsurprised by the order. What else could be expected when someone had targeted not only Scarlett but also her completely innocent child?
As Mark left, the atmosphere around Sebastian grew increasingly oppressive. His arm rested on the armrest as gray ash accumulated on his cigarette before finally falling, landing on the floor like a stagnant pool of dead water.
