Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 189

4 min 2 views

Seraphim, Virella Island.

Teddy was lounging in a vineyard garden, enjoying the early winter sunshine when his phone vibrated in his pocket.

The moment he felt it, he knew his brief respite was over. Sitting up from the lounge chair, he stretched his stiff back before retrieving his phone.

He casually plucked a grape from a nearby vine and popped it into his mouth as he opened the message, already knowing it was from Sebastian. He'd assumed it would be updates about Scarlett's situation.

[Check Adeline's flight. She'll be landing in Seraphim.]

His chewing slowed to a stop at the unexpected instruction. The grape juice burst in his mouth, but even that couldn't calm his rising irritation.

Adeline again.

Teddy disliked this woman, despite hardly knowing what she'd done previously. Though she resembled Scarlett physically, anyone with eyes could see they were nothing alike in character.

His lack of urgency regarding Scarlett wasn't without reason. After all, she had been taken by Chris—hardly someone likely to do anything extreme.

Besides, a single day wasn't enough time for her to undergo an abortion. That would require creating medical records, and even if Shane Wright had connections, he couldn't possibly arrange everything in just one day.

Teddy clicked his tongue and stood up, grabbing another bunch of grapes as he passed the arbor. As he turned through an archway, he encountered several Seraphim natives—all tall, though still shorter than himself.

"Mr. Russo," Teddy greeted, his voice deep and his Seraphine pronunciation impeccable.

"Ah, Teddy." The man smiled, patting Teddy's shoulder. "Where are you headed?"

"Mr. Howard has given me a new assignment," Teddy replied expressionlessly.

The man who'd spoken nodded. He was the tallest among the group, with golden hair and a handsome face despite its length. As he spoke, someone called from behind.

"Marco!"

He turned, waving dismissively. "Hey, can't you see I'm talking to someone?"

Marco Russo turned back to Teddy. "Is that so? When is Jacob coming back? How many years has it been? Does he still remember his uncle?"

"You jest, Mr. Russo. He might forget who he is, but he'd never forget you," Teddy replied with a smile, knowing something of their history.

Marco brightened at this. He cheerfully patted Teddy's shoulder and personally escorted him out. "Well, if you have work to do, get to it. Just remember to tell Jacob I miss him and want him to visit."

His words carried genuine affection. "Look at me—I can barely remember what my poor sister's child looks like anymore."

Teddy's gaze settled on Marco's face, finally resting on his light amber eyes. "He looks a lot like you, especially those eyes."

"See that? You Lumarians really know how to talk," Marco laughed, assuming Teddy was just flattering him.

Eventually, a Russo family driver took Teddy to the station. Before getting in, Teddy received a wad of cash from the driver despite his protests.

"Oh, for God's sake, just take it. It's only a small gesture. You're Jacob's friend—when you come to Seraphim, it's our duty to look after you."

Teddy checked his watch—in two hours, Adeline would be landing at Castrovella City airport.

"Hey kid, need some manpower?" the driver asked, sensing what Teddy might be up to.

"No thanks," Teddy waved him off. For dealing with one woman? Hardly worth the trouble.

Castrovella City Airport.

Adeline emerged from the airport exit with a silk scarf wrapped around her head. She moved hurriedly, heading straight for the taxis waiting at the curb.

"Sir, I need to—" She had barely reached the taxi when a man suddenly grabbed her wrist.

"Ah!" She startled, but froze when she heard his voice.

"Keep it down, Ms. Morgan. I'd rather not hurt you." Teddy didn't even look at her, his sunglasses-covered eyes scanning the surroundings for potential accomplices.

Seeing Teddy, Adeline immediately thought of Sebastian. Had he discovered her plan? The thought flashed through her mind but was quickly dismissed.

Impossible. Nobody knew about that plan. Teddy couldn't be here because of it.

Having reassured herself, Adeline's nerves settled. She twisted her wrist slightly, adopting a coquettish tone, "Mr. Parker, you're hurting me."

Hearing this, Teddy glanced down at her but showed no chivalry. "Please speak normally, Ms. Morgan. I'd rather people not think we're mating in the street."

Adeline choked at his words, her face alternating between flushed and pale. Nevertheless, Teddy released her, though he maintained a distance of no more than three steps between them.

She considered running, but after a few steps, Teddy immediately caught her again. The significant size difference between them made escape impossible.

They had been walking like this for nearly ten minutes, yet no one had come to assist him. Could he really be alone? The thought sparked a glimmer of hope in Adeline.

If he was by himself, and her people showed up, what could he do? Military background or not, could he really fight ten people at once?

With this in mind, Adeline discreetly pulled her bag forward, took out her phone, and quickly sent a message to her contact.

And all of this was observed by Teddy from behind.
