Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 206

"You're right, Benjamin... Indeed, the Cooper family oath." Kevin lowered his head, tugging a small smile at the corner of his mouth before looking up. "So you plan to continue like this? Doesn't that girl deserve to know about her own background?"

The question genuinely stunned Benjamin. He loosened his grip, allowing the plastic bottle in his palm to breathe again as it expanded with a crinkle.

"Of course not," Benjamin shook his head and casually tossed the bottle aside. "She absolutely should know her background, but I don't think now is the right time."

Kevin frowned, leaning forward with both hands. "Then when do you think is the right time? You're not planning to wait until she's eighty, are you?"

"Haha!" Kevin's comment instantly made Benjamin burst out laughing.

But after the laughter faded, the melancholy on Benjamin's face only deepened. "How could I possibly wait until she's eighty? I'm almost fifty—by the time she's eighty, I'll be sleeping in my tomb."

Hearing this, Kevin's frown deepened. "You know that's not what I meant, my friend. If we don't tell her soon, I'm afraid no one will be able to tell her the truth." His expression darkened as he gave Benjamin a meaningful look. "You know, if I hadn't come today, you would've..."

"I'll tell her," Benjamin interrupted, promising with a calm face.

But his friend didn't seem convinced. Kevin snorted, "I think you should go tomorrow."

"That's not a good day. But I'll choose the right time to tell her," Benjamin refused his friend's suggestion with a shake of his head. His thoughts churned visibly as he clearly had his own plans. "I think the first priority is to get her to know me."

"Aren't you worried those people will target her?" Kevin hesitated.

Benjamin chuckled at this, looking at Kevin with understanding in his eyes. "See? I knew you weren't that heartless."

Realizing why his friend had spoken that way earlier, Kevin raised an eyebrow, smiling slyly. "Oh, Benjamin, you always did love setting traps for me."

"Call me William instead. I'm more familiar with that name." Benjamin waved dismissively as he leaned back in the leather chair and turned to look out the window, where the hospital was no longer visible in the distance. "I'll find the right time to tell her. Before then, I need your help."

Hearing this, Kevin didn't even consider refusing. Instead, he smiled, "Well, if I don't help you, who will?" His words carried endless resignation, yet were tinged with affection.

Benjamin smiled back, and the two friends who had spent most of their lives together exchanged knowing looks.

Beneath Benjamin's seat, a red light blinked rhythmically.

Ten minutes after Teddy had bundled Adeline into a taxi, a black sedan came screeching to a halt at the roadside near Seraphim's Castrovella City Airport. The sharp sound of brakes cut through the air as the tires left two black marks on the ground.

The doors flew open, and several men in black suits quickly exited, scanning the surroundings with hawk-like precision. Their movements were clean and efficient, clearly those of well-trained professionals.

Castrovella City Airport was crowded, and the dramatic arrival of the sedan startled many onlookers, who instinctively backed away with wary expressions. Whispers and camera clicks rose from all sides.

The attention didn't slow the men in black, however. They moved with incredible speed, thoroughly searching the airport's front hall in just half an hour. They regrouped, their expressions grave.

"No sign of her," the last man to return reported, slightly out of breath, suggesting he'd been running while searching.

Hearing this, the leader's expression grew even more serious. He pulled out his phone and typed quickly, sending a message within moments.

[Sir, we couldn't find Ms. Morgan at Castrovella City Airport. What should we do now?]

The reply came quickly. [The last person she was seen with was Teddy Parker. You might try your luck at Virella Island.]

Seeing this message, the man in black frowned slightly. Though confused about why Virella Island was mentioned, his obedience was absolute, and he immediately replied: [Understood. We'll head there right away.]

But the messages kept coming. [They left not long ago. If you leave immediately, you should be able to catch up with them on the road.]

[Got it.]

The leader put away his phone after replying and, without further discussion, turned toward the black sedan. Only as he opened the car door did he speak: "To Virella Island."

The others exchanged glances before climbing into the vehicle. The sedan had arrived in a hurry and departed just as hastily.

The car had barely merged onto the highway toward Virella Island when the leader received another message.

[Abandon the pursuit of Adeline. Go to Calvessa immediately.]

This message came out of nowhere, but the men voiced no complaints. They simply took the next exit and headed toward Calvessa.

Meanwhile, Adeline—whom they had been tracking—was actually at a service station just a few miles past the exit they'd taken.

Teddy had gone to the convenience store for water and thoughtfully brought a bottle back for Adeline. However, his kindness earned no gratitude—only a glare.

"I suggest you let me go. They'll catch up soon," Adeline said coldly, eyeing Teddy with disdain that extended to the water bottle in his hand.

It was clear that Adeline's rich-girl attitude was flaring up again. Teddy took a swig of water, completely unfazed by her threat. He tossed the bottle, which landed on Adeline's leg.

Adeline winced as the bottle hit her, her disgust intensifying. "Are you blind?!"

Teddy wiped his mouth, giving her a casual glance. "Ms. Morgan, do you think we've been moving quickly?"

This clearly wasn't small talk. Adeline glanced at the sky outside, an uneasy feeling growing within her. "What are you getting at?"

"Do I need to spell it out for you?" Teddy pointed at the sky. "Five hours, and we've barely left the city. Plus, I never turned off your phone."

Some things didn't need to be stated explicitly. Adeline's face went pale as her uneasiness exploded into dread. Her voice began to shake, though she tried to maintain her composure. "They won't abandon me!"

"Ms. Morgan, face reality," Teddy said, resting his hand on the car roof and looking down at her. "I thought you might have something special about you, but apparently not."

Adeline's face grew even paler, her eyes darting toward the window with unmistakable panic. It seemed she truly had been abandoned.
