Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 161

5 min 2 views

All of this felt like a dream to Scarlett.

A commanding figure appeared behind her—tall and imposing, effortlessly parting the crowd to reach her side.

"Make way," he announced, his voice booming like thunder, instantly silencing the crowd.

Scarlett looked up with a smile. "Mr. Parker."

Teddy nodded, creating a protective barrier around her as they moved forward. With his shield in place, she finally managed to reach the elevator.

Few knew Teddy's true identity, sparking a wave of speculation through the crowd until a veteran MRK employee recognized him.

"That's Teddy Parker, Sebastian Howard's right-hand man. Used to be George Howard's security detail—I saw him working a gala once."

This revelation only deepened the crowd's reverence for Scarlett.

"What brings the elusive Mr. Parker into the spotlight today?" Scarlett teased once they were alone in the elevator.

Teddy's lips curved slightly. "Ms. Seymour, your circumstances have changed. Special treatment is warranted."

Scarlett knew exactly what he meant but just smiled in response.

When he continued following her out of the elevator, she couldn't help asking, "Planning to shadow my every move?"

Her fingers unconsciously tightened around her leather handbag.

"Of course," he replied matter-of-factly. "Those are Mr. Howard's and Mr. Seymour's instructions."

The mention of Michael caught her off guard. Unable to formulate a refusal, she simply nodded and continued toward her office.

Outside, she spotted Hatty and Lily, the latter having breakfast.

"Long time no see," Scarlett greeted them with a smile. "Good morning."

Hatty immediately rushed forward. "Ms. Seymour! You're finally back!" She threw her arms around Scarlett, bouncing excitedly.

Both Teddy and Lily's expressions darkened. They exchanged a quick glance before Lily intervened, gently pulling Hatty back.

"It's wonderful to see you back, Ms. Seymour," Lily said, stepping forward. "How's your ankle?" She subtly gestured toward Scarlett's foot—both showing concern and reminding the impulsive Hatty.

A horrified gasp came from behind her.

"Oh right—your sprained ankle!" Hatty exclaimed, noticing Scarlett's flat shoes. She nearly dropped to her knees. "It's still not healed? I'm so sorry for making you jump around!"

"It's fine," Scarlett waved dismissively. "Healed ages ago."

In truth, the swelling had subsided by the second day, and she could put weight on it, but Libbie and the others had been so overprotective that she hadn't properly walked until yesterday.

The flat shoes were solely due to Libbie's insistence—even Michael had demanded it.

The next few days passed uneventfully. Scarlett had hoped to slip away to schedule an abortion, but couldn't find a single opportunity to shake off Teddy.

She complained about this to Chris, but he couldn't offer much help—there was simply no way to spirit her away under such vigilant surveillance.

The turning point came ten days later.

At 4 PM, Chris messaged her saying the opportunity was ripe. Around 6 PM, he arrived at her office floor and encountered Teddy at the entrance.

"Mr. Wright," Teddy acknowledged with a nod.

"Mr. Parker," Chris replied with a practiced grin. "Long time no see."

"It's only been a few days," Teddy replied flatly, glancing toward Scarlett's office. "Taking Ms. Seymour somewhere fun?"

Chris pulled up a chair. "No, visiting a friend at the hospital."

Teddy's brow furrowed. "Which wealthy heir has been hospitalized?"

"You don't know?" Chris raised an eyebrow. "Your intel seems to be slipping. Sylvia was in a car accident this afternoon."

Teddy's expression hardened. As Sebastian's second-in-command, he knew all the plans involving the Myers family—they'd been under close surveillance because of Tiffany.

They had just recently cut off Tiffany's investigation, and now Sylvia was in an accident? This reeked of outside interference.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Wright, but Ms. Seymour cannot accompany you to visit Ms. Myers," he stated coldly.

Chris hadn't expected such a direct refusal. "Why not?" he challenged after a moment's surprise. "Actually, who are you to make decisions for Scarlett?"

"I represent Mr. Howard," Teddy replied, his tone glacial.

Chris brushed past him toward Scarlett's office. "Just because you have Sebastian's seal of approval doesn't mean you control her."

As Chris disappeared through the doorway, Teddy turned to Lily. "Notify Mr. Howard."

Lily nodded.

Inside the office, Scarlett was battling with a design program on her computer. Seeing Chris provided her tortured brain with a moment's respite.

"What brings you here?" she asked, standing to pour him water.

"No, let me," Chris insisted, making her sit back down. These days, everyone treated her like she was made of glass.

He poured the water but hesitated. He'd heard pregnant women shouldn't be stressed—would news of Sylvia's accident upset her too much?

But Scarlett was already looking at him expectantly. "What made you decide to visit today?"

Taking a deep breath, Chris decided to proceed. "Didn't you want to go to the hospital? I just heard Sylvia was in a car accident." He watched her carefully as he delivered the news.

"How did she get into an accident?" Scarlett stood up, genuinely shocked.

Though visibly upset, she showed no physical distress, which relieved Chris. "While we're visiting her, you could also find an opportunity to schedule your procedure."

But Scarlett's mind was focused elsewhere. "How badly is she hurt?"

"No details yet," Chris frowned. "Just heard it was a rear-end collision."

Scarlett found this strange. "Who told you about this? If the news is circulating, surely there must be some details?"

Chris's mind went blank. "Someone mentioned it in a group chat, but they only said she was in an accident—nothing more."

"Have you tried contacting her?" Scarlett asked, already pulling out her phone.

"Called and texted," Chris shrugged. "Even tried reaching Mrs. Myers. No response from either."
