Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 201
Hearing this, Marco's eyes widened instantly. He peered into the hospital room. "There's no bathroom inside?" He immediately turned to Shane, his eyes brimming with reproach.
But Shane was innocent—he hadn't arranged this room at all. When he arrived, Scarlett was already here. Besides, the receptionist had thoughtfully provided a private room, which was already quite good.
With this in mind, Shane found his confidence and simply repeated, "We were in a hurry earlier. We're already applying for a new room."
While the two were talking, Sebastian had already walked over to Scarlett. His hand gently pressed against her back, guiding with the slightest pressure. "Let's go."
Scarlett wanted to refuse Sebastian's help but knew she couldn't win against him, so she silently accepted. As she walked toward the restroom on the other side of the hallway, she glanced back at the tall, blond man, curious about his identity.
But she didn't ask—anyone appearing alongside Sebastian and Shane probably wasn't someone she wanted to know.
Coming out of the restroom, Scarlett saw Sebastian waiting by the door. People passing by kept looking at him, their eyes filled with curiosity and admiration. Scarlett approached, her gaze lingering briefly on Sebastian's face. It was indeed quite attention-grabbing.
As her eyes rested on Sebastian's face, he looked up. His light amber eyes showed no particular emotion, yet somehow made Scarlett feel embarrassingly caught in the act.
She quickly averted her gaze. "Let's go."
With those words, she headed back toward the hospital room. Sebastian followed, deliberately walking close enough for their shoulders to touch. Scarlett felt a subtle touch on her fingers and looked up to see Sebastian acting as if nothing had happened. She pressed her lips together and pulled her hand back behind her.
"Why are you hiding?" This movement immediately drew Sebastian's displeasure. His hand followed hers, no longer tentative—he simply took her hand directly in his.
Scarlett tried to pull away once, but couldn't. She had no choice but to let him hold her hand.
"How are you feeling?" The atmosphere between them had grown quiet, but it didn't last long. Sebastian squeezed the webbing between her thumb and index finger, asking in a calm tone.
"Fine," Scarlett answered dryly.
"You'll need to stay in the hospital for a while," Sebastian said, watching her reaction to his words.
Her response was relatively calm. She looked straight ahead, seemingly uninterested in future arrangements, only asking, "Where's my phone?"
She hadn't seen her phone since waking up and knew without thinking that Sebastian or his people must have taken it.
"Want to contact Chris?" Her question had barely left her mouth before Sebastian saw through her intentions.
Exposed, Scarlett maintained a calm expression, only raising an eyebrow as she looked at him. "Is it wrong to contact a friend?"
Her eyes were determined, tinged with reproach. Her expression all but accused him of imprisonment.
Though Sebastian had arranged for people to watch over her, he never intended to imprison her. Hearing her words, his expression remained calm, but his slightly arched eyebrow betrayed his inner feelings.
"Is that how you see me?"
Scarlett snorted and turned her head, saying nothing more.
"I don't know where your phone is at the moment, but I'll find it for you. In the meantime, use mine." Sebastian wasn't bothered by her attitude. His voice remained steady as he handed her his phone.
Looking at the dark phone in front of her, Scarlett paused. Having been around Sebastian for so many years, she immediately recognized this as his personal phone. Her gaze lingered on it for a moment before she looked up at him. "Aren't you afraid I'll see something?"
"Like what?" Sebastian raised an eyebrow, not understanding her implication.
His personal phone never contained work-related matters—aside from communications with family, there was nothing else on it. But Scarlett misunderstood his meaning. She gave a self-deprecating smile. "Right, you have so many phones."
The tone of her words sounded off. Sebastian's gaze rested on her for a long time, until he saw her take the phone. Only then did he speak again. "You don't like this one?"
Scarlett shook her head. She didn't even try to unlock the phone, just held it in her hand as they continued walking.
They soon returned to the hospital room. By now, the room had been completely transformed, with nurses busily cleaning. "Mr. Howard," one nurse greeted Sebastian first, then noticed Scarlett and greeted her as well. "Ms. Seymour, your room has been moved to the private ward on the fifteenth floor."
As she spoke, she handed over a key card. Scarlett took the card, bewildered. Since when did hospital rooms come with key cards? Sebastian, however, seemed accustomed to this. He raised his arm and guided Scarlett toward the elevators.
"Don't," Scarlett rejected his closeness.
"Scarlett." Just her name, spoken simply, was enough to halt her resistance.
She pressed her lips together lightly, glancing quickly at Sebastian, but immediately looking away when their eyes met. Those beautiful eyes flashed briefly before her eyelids lowered, her curled lashes trembling slightly like a small brush gently sweeping across Sebastian's heart.
Sebastian's Adam's apple moved almost imperceptibly. He leaned slightly to the side, his forehead touching hers, his voice carrying a hint of huskiness, his warm breath falling on the back of her ear, causing her to shiver despite her efforts to control it.
"What are you upset about now?" As he asked, his head moved with his gaze, slowly appearing before Scarlett's eyes.
Face to face like this, Scarlett could see his light amber eyes more clearly—beautiful and transparent. Sebastian deliberately displayed them now, instantly making her surrender completely. Scarlett's gaze became distant for a moment, but only for a moment.
She blinked, shutting out Sebastian's mesmerizing expression. "I'm not upset."
Stubborn and unyielding.
Sebastian raised an eyebrow slightly, inwardly resigned. He could only stroke her cheek and bring up the topic she cared about again. "You still don't trust me? I want to know why you're so convinced she'll marry me, and that I would allow your child to be raised by her."
This was the first time Sebastian had actively brought up this matter. Scarlett immediately looked at him, staring intently into his eyes. "You wouldn't?"
Sebastian shook his head, his tone certain. "No."
But just one word didn't seem enough to convince Scarlett. They stared at each other for a while before Scarlett looked away first. She lowered her eyes to the floor. "How long will you stay here?"
She changed the subject. Sebastian knew she was avoiding again, but he didn't press her, just answered her question.
"I'll go back in two days."
Such a short time. Scarlett took a deep breath. "What about me?"
After asking this question, her heart trembled. If she could go back, did that mean her status could be acknowledged openly?
